I did have an older “scratched CD that skipped when I got the unit. I applied the firmware update and the same CD worked fine afterwards. The firmware update was very easy to install.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This player does not ship with the latest firmware update and as a result, most CDs will skip. As soon as you install the update, the player will work perfectly and not skip. Just go to Yamaha’s website and you will find the update and instructions
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is true if the unit does not have the most recent firmware already installed (1.53 as of this writing). The software fix is very easy - just a quick download to USB and then upload to the unit using the USB port on the front, takes about 5 minutes total. The instructions are readily available online.
