“Is the keyboard detachable without removing the iPad from the case?”

• Yes it is. The keyboard is the outer case that is connected with magnets on the iPad connectors. The iPad itself is in a plastic like case, but no screen protection. So yes it can be separated into 2 parts. I think you can actually still use the keyboard as it is bluetooth. The pencil holder is part of the plastic case also. I have this case and the Logitech one, I prefer this one.

• Yes it is. if you look at the keyboard on zagg.com, they have a picture of it where it's detached.
