The outdoor cameras don't have to be sheltered but because they are not designed with a sun shield per say, you would get better images if they were installed under an awning or roof soffit during the mid day hours.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the camera outside and exposed to the elements. They were not sheltered other than by the wall that they are attached to. After 6 months there are no negative effects to the cameras.
