Thank you for your inquiry. The battery powers the clock and timer memory while the power cord is unplugged. The battery does not affect the function of the rice cooker. It is only for the time feature and timer function. The battery is soldered in to the power board and will need to be replaced by an authorized service center due to liability reasons.
