Great Keyboard -- Wrong Switch choice by RazerPosted .
I own this Keyboard, I didn't buy it directly from Best buy, although the price would've been the same. I love that it has a Backlight, not many Mechanical Keyboards do have this feature. (In fact, there are VERY few.) It IS a mechanical keyboard that uses Cherry Blue Switches. You can't expect it to be quiet...I have no idea why Razer chose Blue over Black/Clear/Brown Switches...since those would've been a better choice for gaming. The way the blue switch is, it doesn't always recognize 2 consecutive key presses. (Due to the how the Blue Switch actually works) Programmable Macro Keys are a plus, though I never use them. The different settings of Brightness for the backlight are amazing. The media keys work flawlessly as well! I would recommend this keyboard for a player who plays FPS's. However any game like Starcraft, WoW, Gunz:The Duel, etc that requires rapid key presses. I'd recommend a mechanical keyboard with a Cherry Black or Brown Switch. Also, who decided the location of the audio/USB ports? On the RIGHT side where most people have their mouse? REALLY? Also, if you type a lot when you're not gaming (College Student) This Keyboard is GREAT!I would recommend this to a friend

Great Keyboard, Lousy FirmwarePosted .
I normally love Razer products, its usually all I buy, however, I am severely disappointed with the Black Widow Ultimate. Don't get me wrong, I love the key response, the layout (except for the USB pass through and the headphone/mic jacks right in the way of the mouse), the levels of backlighting, and the macro/key reprogramming feature. Its the firmware that keeps having issues. Everytime my system performs an auto restart, I have to plug in another keyboard, either USB or PS/2, and redownload and install the firmware. I am running W7 Home Premium 64 bit, have Nvidia motherboard, Intell Q8200 Core2 Quad processor, 8gb ram, Nvidia 1gb video card, 2 tb hdd. If I restart myself, no problems, but if system is shut down either due to power outage (does happen occasionally here in Idaho) or a system update, gotta redownload the firmware. It gets quite annoying. I have absolutely no issues with any of my other Razer products, mice, headphones, Arcosa keyboard; just the BW Ultimate's firmware. No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great gaming keyboard (yes its clicks!)Posted .
First of all please know what you want and what you are buying. This is a MECHANICAL keyboard. It will make a very noticeable click when you press keys. It's one of the attractions of this keyboard. If you want a quiet key press this is NOT your keyboard. I love the multiple colors you can have. The only minor disappointment is I play a lot of my games in the dark, and while the numbers on the top row light up, the shift+number character doesn't light up. I know I'm being picky but just something i've noticed. They key board feels heavy, which to me makes it feel well built. Now because its mechanical and has a lot of bells and whistles, it has a lot of parts that can break down. I've noticed a few review talking about it not light up or working. Just make sure where you buy it from has a return policy you can work with. Keep receipts until you confirm it works as it should. This is just common sense and good judgement from any electronics buyer. The keyboard also has hookups for your headphones/mic which can be nice if you dont use a wireless headset. There are also USB ports on the back which i use for my mouse. It helps with wire management going to my rig. The keyboard MAY USE up to 2 usb ports to connect because of the amount of power it needs. Shouldn't be an issue with today's computers, but worth noting. Finally It has a braided cable which helps with the potential cable mess you could of had with this board. PS.... I kept the box it came in for the plastic cover to put over the keyboard when I'm not using it. Helps keep dust, pet hair, etc out of it. Overall I LOVE this keyboard. While I paid the premium price for it, i'm not sure its worth the $120 but other than that it is absolutely awesome. (Games I play: WoW, LOTRO, CS:S, Diablo III)I would recommend this to a friend

will not use a normal keyboard ever againPosted .
I haven't thoroughly tried this keyboard out to its fullest yet waiting on a good mmo for that :S none the less this keyboard is amazing i didn't buy it for the backlighting i bought it for the sweet cherry blue mechanical keys. and i must say they feel amazing under my fingers, i think i have just further spoiled myself with these because now i will never be able to go back to normal rubber stopper keys. and the description was semi confusing but the ENTIRE keyboard can be customized with hotkeys, and the on the fly macro system is decent i will probably use it once TOR comes out. but the keys are absolutely amazing if you're looking for a silenced keyboard don't buy this but if you're loud and proud and want the best thing out there this keyboard is for youI would recommend this to a friend

Nice Keyboard, good tactile responsePosted .
Overall, I do like this keyboard quite a bit. It just feels good, and it has enough heft that if you set it in your lap it doesn't slide all over the place. The ability to have it carry a USB port as well as your microphone and headphone connections is nice, but truthfully wasn't what I was looking for. I DO love the programmability of the thing. You have 5 programmable keys on the left, sure, that's nice. But you can program ANY key to do whatever you want, which is far more useful. The lighting is OK... one thing I would like to say about that is that the software included shows a sliding scale for the lighting that, for all intents and purposes, is virtually useless. It shows a slider and intensity presets (Off, dim, normal, or bright). When you grab the slider, it gives you a number indicating it's intensity. However, when you release the slider, it will automatically snap to a preset. If you're not going to allow an actual scale from 0 - 100, then just give the four presets as toggles. This is just a quibbly bit I know, but it added a slight annoyance factor since even the 'dim' setting is rather bright. Which probably is the reason for my one outstanding issue with this keyboard: it's connector cord. Now yes, I realize it's running 2 USB, a headphone and a microphone connection through the cord, but it is so inflexible it just gets in the way. This is probably less an issue for those who just set their keyboard on their desks and leave it there, but I am a bit more mobile with how I use my keyboards. It's more like having several foot long, semi-flexible sticks attached to the back of the keyboard. It ALMOST makes me wish I had just simply gotten myself a wireless KB. Almost, but not quite. I know this review seems to show more negative than positive, however that really isn't the case. The positives certainly outweigh the negatives by far. If I could get a wireless (rechargeable) version, I certainly would. If the current one I have died, I'd replace it with one pretty much the same, given current options.I would recommend this to a friend

Great keyboard.Posted .
I just bought my black widow ultimate today at my local best buy and I am already loving it, The lighting on it is very good [ Has 5 different light modes ] low, medium, high, slow strobe, off. It also has cherry mx red switches that have a very nice click to them. So far i have not had any problems except my left key was a little hard to push down, I quickly poped off the key and put it back on and it works perfect. One thing it has that i was impressed about is macro recording, You can program a key to perform unlimited stokes with one push of a key. You can also chose the time between key stokes. Another good thing it has is 5 programmable key profiles, Good for if you have that certin game rigged up to the keys you love the most. Over all i love this keyboard already it has such a sleek design too it.I would recommend this to a friend

Great keyboard, works right out of boxPosted .
I got my new keyboard and took it out and plugged it in and it just worked. No drivers. I have Win7 Home FYI. The backlight and passthroughs work and it is a bit noisy when I type, but it doesn't really affect me. Overall great keyboard. Wonderful build quality.I would recommend this to a friend

Best Keyboard I've Seen and BoughtPosted .
As an MMO and FPS PC gamer, I usually choose Razer products for mice, keyboards, and mousepads (and sometimes headsets). I was a little doubtful when I was thinking of ordering this keyboard. I thought, "$130? Way too much for a keyboard." I was thinking of a cheaper one like the Lycosa or Arctosa. I didn't get the Arctosa because it didn't light up. And yes, backlit LEDs on the keys are VERY important to me as a gamer. I didn't get the Lycosa because I had compared this (Black Widow Ultimate) to my friend's Lycosa, and I just HAD to get this one. The keyboard has a well-built design and is very sturdy. And like I said before, IT LIGHTS UP! It just looks cool when it does... When you press on the keys, it makes a really cool noise. I recommend looking up a YouTube video to see it (or going to BestBuy and checking it out yourself). The keys, I dont know why, have never been stained by my fingers. Usually while I play MMO games I eat chips or Doritos. So when my orange fingers touch the keyboard, the keys will get all dirty. Well not this one! Had it for 3 months and still, NOTHING. The feel of the keys, design, and sound are all amazing. As a side note, there are also audio inputs (pink and green) on the side. This makes it a lot easier for me, since I hate having to go into the back of my computer through all the wires to get into those two inputs. If I HAD to think of something bad about this keyboard, I guess it would be the price. The $130 didn't really affect me, but maybe this could have gone down about $10 or $20. Still, I love this thing. So far, after this, my Razer Naga Epic, Razer Nostromo, and Razer Megalodons, Razer has yet to let me down. If you don't want to buy this keyboard or it is too much for you, I recommend a Razer keyboard with back lighting LEDs (Razer Anansi or Lycosa) I'll leave a link to my video review here in case you want to hear how the keyboard really sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qYkT2XFwZQ&feature=youtu.beI would recommend this to a friend
