I always liked the black album but this one may beat it!

Metallica at there best. Musically no one can top them

I have known about Metallica ever since I was a little kid, but I didn't really like them until I began to listen to them as a thirteen year-old boy. My goodness, this band is fantastic. Of the four original albums released by Metallica ("Kill 'Em All," "Ride the Lightning," "Master of Puppets," and "...And Justice for All"), I think that this album is number three (in order of best, to worst). Don't get me wrong, this album is AWESOME, and I always find myself headbanging to it whenever it is played, but this album is nothing compared to Ride the Lightning, or Master of Puppets (my favorite album of all time). TL;DR: BUY THIS ALBUM.

This whole album is great. The sound is soo great.

Being an old dude, and still listening to cds, I am not sure whether or not I originally had this on LP or CD. Either way, I've lost it somewhere along the way, so when I saw that I could re-buy it for $5.99, I jumped. What a great album....after they were just thrash-obsessed kids, and before they were over-produced, trying too hard to SING metal-heads. This is an album chock-full of attitude, muscle, and mind- really great lyrics at times, shredding guitars, and propulsive drumming. The production leaves out the bass too often, but this album goes to the hall of fame in my book.

With the addition of bass player Jason Newsted to replace Cliff Burton RIP, Metalica brought a much heavier tone to this album. Coproduced by Lars Ulrick the drummer, the album had a heavy low end frequency that seemed to add to the ambience of the end product. Newsted brought a completely different approach to bass for Metalica after having Cliff for the three albums before hand. Again this seemed to add to the overall amazing sound of the album. I feel this lends to a different approach on their rhythm guitars in this project as well. One of my favorites!

This one has it all, aside from audible bass guitar. First work with a new bassist that is just a monster, and 9 tracks of pure awesome. Blackened, Shortest Straw, Eye of the Beholder, Frayed Ends of Sanity... all fantastic examples of what they can do when they put their mind to it. I wish someone in the vaults would wise up and do an official remix to turn up the bass tracks in this, it just seems rather flat without Jason's bottom end filling out the rhythm section fully.

I feel this was the last good album they put out. After that they just went too commercial

I like most Metallica music and thought this would be a good addition to my collection.

Great metal music, still good now as when it first came out.
