Of the big 3 consoles’ online memberships I think NSO is the easiest to get your value and then some. The variety of features beyond access to online multiplayer makes this the most versatile online membership on any gaming platform with loads of features and games only available to members like old game emulators built into the Switch console and access to products on Nintendo.com

You really can't ask for anything more from Nintendo. All the old school favorites are represented and easy to access. If you've been a fan for a long time, then you owe it yourself to relive nostalgic games.

It's basically for if you sign up anew, you get a single month for free (a $1.66 value!). They don't let you redeem it to extend your existing membership another month.
On the subject, Switch Online is ridiculous in that they charge you $20/year just to back up your save data, while subsequently removing the ability to back it up to a microSD card. Sure, you get a lot more than just save backups, but they specifically removed your ability to backup save data when they introduced this. It also doesn't back up the most important save data, such as your Pokemon save games. And as a comparison, Steam gives you cloud save sync for free and most PC games offer online multiplayer for free. Not consumer friendly at all that Nintendo started charging for it.
Despite it costing money now, Switch Online doesn't scream next generation online multiplayer. In fact, it barely qualifies in my opinion. The first-party games feature no real-time communication nor large online lobbies. There is no nintendo platform to share in-game screenshots and video clips. No messaging feature either. Nintendo is really behind the competition. Switch 2 supposedly has gamechat, but that console price is so much more than switch 1 and it remains to be seen how well it works in practice.
If you're someone who likes to use multiple users on your switch to have a second or third save slot in games like Pokemon, you'll have to buy more NSO subscriptions for each user or get the "family plan". Necessary for a family of one I suppose. There is an expansion available for this service that gives you subscription access to a limited selection of N64 and GBA games, but it's a lot more money. I don't think the NSO retro game access is worth the subscription, and you don't have a way to export your save files. It's permanently locked behind the subscription paywall.
So yeah, lots of people begrudgingly pay for NSO access because they want to go online with switch games. But it's a terrible "product" in my opinion.
Is $1.66 really worth the time to redeem it, and stumble through a laggy NSO Switch UI to redeem the code? I actually don't think so. Maybe, if you have no money left.

Nintendo Switch Online offers great value with cloud saves, access to classic NES and SNES games, and fun online multiplayer. The retro game library is a nostalgic bonus! However, connection stability can be hit or miss at times. Overall, a solid service that enhances the Switch experience.

So here’s my chance to turn words into money. The game is the third one in the series that I have played and I thoroughly enjoyed the way the story was crafted together. It’s nice to play a “game” if you can call it that which is more deductive than button smashing or precision jumping. Enjoy!
