2010 is a good follow up to 2001, the best sci-fi film of all time (in terms of quality not necessarily enjoyability). It’s fairly well faithful to the book. The story isn’t as epic as it’s predecessor, the context is dated (very Cold War centric) but it’s enjoyable and the spaceship design has influenced numerous modern sci-fi series and films.

Ho-hum, but probably best BD of it we'll ever get

This sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey is ok, not great at all, and feels completely different from the original.
It's supposed to be based (much) more closely on the novels than the original movie. The original was much more an artistic vision/approach and almost reimagining of Kubrick's whereas this sequel is a straightforward telling of this part of the novels. Some might like this better than the original, if they found that too slow or pretentious.
The BD quality itself is nothing stellar. Pretty ho-hum and could possibly use a better, new transfer, but the movie probably isn't popular enough to ever get one since it hasn't already while the original (2001) already got an excellent new 4K transfer and even had a revival run in theaters couple years ago, so this is likely the best we'll ever get.

Brave explorers are headed for the far reaches of the galaxy in the continuation of the story that began with "2001: A Space Odyssey." Their destination is Jupiter, where the Russian and American astronauts will conduct their investigation. Drs. Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider), Walter Curnow (John Lithgow) and R. Chandra (Bob Balaban), along with shipmates Tanya (Helen Mirren) and Dave (Keir Dullea), aim to uncover what led to disaster for the deceased astronauts who preceded them.

I actually prefer it over 2001. It makes more sense then the first one and also explains 2001. Helen Mirren appears as a captain of the Russian space ship carrying Americans out to see what happened with H.A.L. 9000 and Discovery. They are all caught in the middle of political cold war and a warning comes from the monolith.

If you were a fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010 closes the book. Peter Hyams amazes me with his ability to make space seem even darker than it is. The effect work is excellent and the performances he draws out of his actors are just as good. Roy Scheider and John Lithgow are excellent as is the wonderful Helen Mirren.

It is the continuing story of 2001 a space odyssey. 2010 picks 9 years later when the world is in kaos us USSR are at the brink of war yet they are working together to find out what happened to the original ship and Dave the one possible survivor. It climaxes with the monolith changing and something wonderful happens. I love this movie.

I kept hoping for a more special edition, but finally just broke down and bought this on Blu-ray because it is still, probably, one of the most underrated sequels of all time. Frankly, it is easier to watch (faster pacing) than the original classic and if you have not seen it, you are missing out. It’s practically criminal that you can find this so cheap because it is so overlooked. Please buy it.

Unlike 2001, this movie had a plot the average movie goer can easily follow. I like 2001, for its groundbreaking effects and style, but when I first saw 2010 I felt like I really was in orbit around Jupiter. I loved how they made the planet's atmosphere come to live.

This is a surprisingly good sequel to the original 2001: a Space Odyssey. They are completely different movies however, and you can't compare it to the original masterpiece, but it is still a enjoyable sci-fi film worth a viewing for those who want some kind of answers.

Good picture quality. This is part two of 2001 A Space Odyssey. Scientist journey to Jupitar to find out what happen to the first mission in 2001 A Space Odyssey. Add it to your collection if you like sci fi.

The story line is ten years after 2001. Story line is a bit rough if you have not seen 2001 first. 2010 contains some of the earliest computer generated special effects and is generally a good solid movie. The digital transfer to Blu-ray is generally very good.

This was a very good sequel to 2001. The best thing is you don't need to see 2001 for this movie to make sense. They give you a re-cap at the beginning and the movie takes off. I very good movie from 1984.

As the title says............it is full of stars. A nice and sometimes overlooked film that answers some of the questions that were left hanging from the original 2001 movie. The blu ray copy of this film reminds me of when I first saw it on the big screen. Such memories to behold - oh and if you want the answers you need to see this one!

A really good movie that stands the test of time 37 years later. Nicely remastered for BluRay. Only wish they would've redone this movie in 4k because it would be absolutely stunning.

I have enjoyed both the original and this remake. Performances by the cat are solid and while some of the special effects are dates.... Given the mie's age they are still good. Story is tight and holds up to today. Some items from the original are not fully explained but rather left to the viewer's interpretation

While 2001 was an all time classic, 2010 is a decent sequel. Roy Scheider is awesome in this role. Bluray looked better than expected. I think this will be the best we get on home video. Great purchase for $6.
