This is excellent choice all around: the movie (one of the best “natural disaster” genre choices), visually & for the sound. Surround was immersive coming from all channels, overhead heavy driven with lots of low end. HRD is a bonus. Digital copy & slipcover included.

While I was cautioned against reviewing this particular disaster film, I still enjoyed most of this movie. This work employed a monstrous amount of CGI and visual effects to complete the disaster scenes. This was accompanied by very cliche acting scenes and a large amount of drama that catered to a very unlikely plot. The odds of the protagonists making it out of every situation with as little casualties as they had is mind boggling to me. The way that they portray the earthquake reactions is very alarming because the frequency of California’s earthquakes and their small seismic tremors leading to the world ending disaster is very confusing and misleading in the way that they didn’t portray the public outcry in a larger magnitude. The signs that the Earth was undergoing major environmental changes were there for everyone in California to see before the leading scientist had a chance to convince the president. The way that the ships were kept under such secrecy is very unbelievable to me but this movie was filmed in 2009 so they probably did not take into account how intrusive and widespread the internet is now. This movie just in general has a lot of inconsistencies and probably contributed to a lot of the hype around the media’s portrayal and public opinion surrounding the mayan calendar and their culture. There was a lot of drama throughout the film due to many family dynamics that helped add to the excitement of the disaster footage. For these disasters to seem feasible, a lot would have to go wrong within our environment very quickly to capture the public’s opinion and bring attention to possible explanations like the Sun’s neutrino emissions. Overall, this was a long and mostly entertaining movie with a lot of special effects and crazy scenes from a real life doomsday.

The 4k version of this movie is very entertaining 3 reasons 1 the 4k picture for the disaster parts are nice. Reason 2 the HDR is wow if you have a TV that gets bright for example when yellow stone volcano explodes is awesome. Last reason 3 if you have a dolby atmos set up I have the q90r 7.1.4 set up it really puts you in that environment of destruction for example when they are trying to escape California and they are in an airplane you can hear everything being destroyed around you as they are navigating out of there wish is awesome. I do recommend this movie #1 if you have a good bright HDR TV and a dolby atmos set up

Been having this movie for a longtime on blu ray. When I seen the movie was being released on to the 4k with upgraded audio I decided to pick the movie up and give it a shot. I have to say if your a fan of disaster movies pick this one up. The uptick in Dolby Atmos on a surround sound system is a treat to the ears and the way this movie should be watched. The picture gets a nice boost over the blu ray with added HDR effects in certain shots that make the movie stand out over the blu ray. If you have a surround sound home theater at home with some subs pick this movie up.

I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it in the theatres in 2009. I bought the blu-ray immediately on it's release date, and really enjoyed the way it looked and sounded. I wish I could say the same about this 4k version, however. Sony is generally wonderful about their 4k restorations, but this film is only 50% good..in my opinion. The new Dolby Atmos track on this 4k version is really nice, with some impressive low end and atmospherics. Really thunderous bass isn't there, though..and I expected that from a disaster epic of this caliber. The picture quality is only marginally better than the blu-ray, and therefore was disappointing. In short..if you have Atmos capability, the disc is a good upgrade over the blu-ray. If not..then stick with your blu-ray copy.

I watched 2012 years ago and wasn’t that impressed. I decided to give the new 4K blu ray disc a spin. First thing I noticed was the picture upgrade. Colors were rich and blacks were pretty much on point. The special effects looked much better on the new disc. But I think what brought everything together for e was the brand new Dolby atmos track. From the very first rumble, it definitely had my attention. The overhead sound is active and the bass is room shaking, well done. This 4K disc is well done and gets my highest recommendation. 5 stars.

I'm not going to go into the movie as most people have seen this by now. I have to admit that I love this move. I don't care that the science doesn't add up. I watch a movie to escape from reality and enjoy some popcorn and this movie qualifies. The story is engaging, the characters are interesting and I always like to think what if this were to happen and just enjoy the entertainment from there. The 4K pictures looks amazing and the sound is excellent.

It’s a fun disaster movie. The video got a little dark since they applied hdr to the movie. I mean it does kinda add a new dynamic look for it but I think that would of been corrected with Dolby vision but sadly it’s not in vision. However the audio got a redo and is in atmos and the sound quality is amazing. Definitely worth the buy if you have a home theater.

Director Roland Emmerich loves epic disaster movies. This might be the one that takes the cake. Cheesy story , but the disaster sequences are unbelievably detailed and 4K HDR is excellent even if it’s a 2k upscale. Dolby Atmos dominates this movie. What if the Mayans got the last 2 numbers switched and it’s 2021 when the world ends.

Totally love this movie and enjoy watching it over and over again. I feel this is a great action movie and I love the characters. In regards to the visuals and audio, they blew me away as the 4k details looked awesome and the surround sounded great. I play my movies on an OPPO player with a Sony Z-9 4K tv.

Totally unexpected release here as i can name a few other disaster flicks that derserve 4k over this one. However, the image quality on this release is pretty good and i love the thicker casing. As a 4k collector i buy most on day 1 but i would say for others its probably worth waiting on a good sale.

Always enjoy the world is ending movies..this was always a favorite of mine . Particularly Woodie Harrelson character. Picture and sound are good however not much better than the blu ray unconverted to 4K by my Oppo 205 player. If you like these types of films and don't already own buy the 4k version.

I couldn't wait to watch this in 4K UHD with HDR and Dolby Atmos!! It looked amazing on my Sony 75x940e using my UBP-X800M2 4K Blu-ray player and sounded even better with Dolby Atmos from my Sony HT-Z9F with Z9R rear surround speakers!! Brought the theater to my living room!!! Just as I imagined it!!

One of my favorite disaster pop corn flix. Very good audio and video presentation. Though video has a lot of grains! Sound wise, great use of atmos track and a very aggressive bass. Great for showing off your home theater equipments. Overall, great product!

This movie might not be the best disaster movie in the market but it certainly is a great one and ive rewatched it many times and i still enjoy all the cool scenes that involve ridiculous destruction to everything but with good special effects. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes to watch alot of things on a big scale get destroyed.
