Rocking Blast from the Past
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a blast from the past, particularly if you were coming of age in the Chicago/Midwest area in the '60's, this is the album that captures the essence of all of those dances we attended sponsored by the radio station DJ's like Clark Webber of WLS. Sundazed did a great job on the compilation. The album notes and pictures give another dimension to the whole experience. Best of all, my favorite band, Oscar Hamod and the Majestics, got 5 cuts on the album, more than any other group. These songs brought back memories of listening to them perform at the Marquette Park Pavillion. They had an unbelievable range in style., but innovation in fuzz guitar is their forte. My favorite cut on "2131"is the fuzz drenched "Soulfinger," to which Oscar Hamod wrote fab original vocals. If you weren't here in Chicagoland at this pivotal point in rock music history, I am sorry for you. At least you have a chance to taste the magic of the nascent garage band phenomenon, and particularly enjoy the creative genius of Oscar and the Majestics.
