I hoped that by matching a Sony surround system with my Sony Smart tv would make things better from the operating standpoint. I wasn't prepared for this combination to be as intuitive and reactive as it is. I used the Sony sub woofer but I chose to hook up to Klipsch in front and Bose book shelf in rear. could not be happier with this unit.

Very Pleased with our surround sound. It was a Christmas gift to my Husband along with a new 60" TV. He has been very pleased with both. And that's all that matters to me. Thank you, once again for supplying another great product!!

Not too long ago, the sound system I had in my living room started to die. It was time for a new system, and I did my research. I ended up coming down to this system and the higher-end Sony system the 7100W as my choices. At the end of the day I went with this one given taking into account some personal concerns noted in other reviews - 1 HDMI hookup, for tv the max volume caps out, and that it is wired. I feel compelled to write this because in my research, I spent a lot of times looking at other reviews, and per my rating, my worries were allayed. Set up: My family room is not that large, and there is only an area rug, which all leads to sound traveling and not being absorbed. It is also not too huge. I was able to set up my tv, my cable, and my xbox to the system. Note: a digital optical cable is needed. So, I set up the 3100 to the tv via hdmi. I then used my optical cable for the sound system to cable. I have a jerry rigged xbox with an hdmi feed to the tv, and RC cable for sound; the latter was also plugged into the sound system. So, my concern in having only one hdmi hook up disappeared quickly. I was then able to set up the front side speakers to the front of my room, and then place the surround speakers to the sides of my couch against the walls. It is an awesome set up. To give an obvious spoiler, Sony has the settings to simulate surround sound 5.1 with rc cables (2 channels). My xbox sounds amazing with the system, and if that can sound that good with rc cables, you can imagine it boding well for the other connections. I know that nothing fully compares to hdmi for sound, but the technology for Sony is so good all the same, that I am not losing sleep. Blue Tooth sounds really strong as well. My GF and set up our phones and streamed a few songs with clear treble and deep bass - we were both very happy. Running the system is rather easy as well. You can go through many options with intuitive ease. Sound/volume: Per other suggestions, the volume does run lower on tv settings as opposed to the blu ray, and even rc audio hookup. However, I can't put the sound system up to full volume in my place without it simply sounding too loud. One other great feature of good surround sound, when it is all around you, you don't need it to be super loud. I would consider myself a bit of a sound geek, and I spent a lot of time (because I'm ocd that way) tweeking the speaker settings as well as going through the different EQ settings. I love good treble as well as bass, so I usually have my setting on the music setting with the Rock EQ pre-setting. And like other reviews, the bass is damned good for a submissive subwoofer. I had a jbl bass20 before, which could bring it, and I have to say the transition is good. The sound clarity rocks. Picture: I put in the Dark Knight on a regular dvd, to see the scalability with the layering technology, and what they say is true. Regular dvds to in fact look hd, like around 720p. All in all, I'm more than happy. I went into buying this system with good reviews, but was still surprised at how good it sounds and how well it runs. If you're looking for the surround system and you are ok with it wired, you should get this without hesitation. If you do have a huge room, maybe a lot of carpet and want wireless speakers, I'd recommend trying the Sony high-end versions, 7100w and the 8100w. I can say for my living room layout, that this system is more system than I need, and I'm fine with that. So far I would say that the quality far exceeds the price, which is also why I figure that the high end versions have to be phenomenal.

I bought one of these "theater systems" under a small budget, and got exactly what I had paid for: an affordable beginner's surround sound system. The sound is great and hardly any different from a typical home stereo: the speakers are clear and pretty crisp, while the subwoofer adds well-needed bass--although I had to turn it all the way up through the settings to get the kick I desired. My only concern was that the wires for the two main speakers are really short and would require some 'TLC' to replace, but this isn't a problem if you're setting up a small area. The blu-ray player offers a lot of bonus material that's expected out of today's technology (bluetooth, WiFi, usb connectivity) , and is almost worth the money alone. Overall, I came into buying this product anxious for a new experience, and wasn't disappointed; however, if I had more money and a bigger room, I would replace these speakers--then it would be a true "home theatre."

This unit is compact, yet has everything that you could want. Bluetooth, blue ray, FM tuner, 3D, CD Player, DVD player.....everything!! The sound is phenomenal. I'm seriously thinking about buying 1 or 2 more units for other rooms. The price is a steal for what you get in return!

This is the first time I have ever bought a good sound system (before this I had an ihome speaker and that was the best to me). I must say this was money very well spent. The sound is amazing and works perfectly in my apartment. It's very easy to set up. I love that I can connect my PS3, or my roommates PS4, so that my games and Netflix is surround sound. The bass is wonderful and you can feel the room shake from it. Bluetooth works amazing and is super easy to set up. Would recommend this more for college kids who want great sound but are on a budget or have a small space.

I bought this to setup a home theater along with a TV I bought around BF. Setup was a breeze and the connections were easy to make because the speaker cables and plugs were hard wired. However, the hard wiring made it difficult to run the surround rear speaker cables under the carpet. IMO, they should leave the front speakers hard wired and the sub and surrounds should have not have the cable hard wired. Also, a longer cable is needed for the surround speakers. In my case, I tried to run the cable along the base boards as an option and ran short. So now I am left with no option but to have my surrounds next to my fronts-or-splice the surround cable and add an extension. The sound is pretty decent for a system for this price but will not blow you apart if you are expecting that. The sub is after all passive, but throws out decent base. I love the bluetooth feature and IMO no receiver/audio system should be manufactured without it in today's world. The system paired seamlessly with all of the phones in my house and anybody can listen to what they want. The only issue is that it takes about 10-15 seconds (everytime) for the bluetooth to get going once you press the button, so this is a minor irritant. All in all, this is a good buy as for under $250, you are getting a 5.1 system with decent speakers, a networkable blueray player and receiver built into one thin unit (this was great since space was a concern for me) that also has bluetooth. A powered sub would have made this even better.

The unit itself is very sleek and nice looking and is small in size which is nice. The system is very easy to setup and produces high-quality sound. One thing I have noticed though is that the bass/background noise often overpowers the voices/treble. You can of course adjust it a bit but the options seem limited compared to other systems I have had in the past. That is however, really the only downside to this system. Otherwise a very good bang for your buck which is what I typically expect from Sony. I have become mainly a samsung person but I was very happy that i went with this system. As long as you are not looking for top of the line, this is a good middle of the road system and all in one with blue-ray + surround.

I got this to replace my old 3D home theater system and like the sound on this is much better. The old one only had 300W which was equally distributed thru all 6 speakers - 50W each to both front, both rear, the center and the sub woofer - and at times was kind of hard to hear. This has much better sound at 1000W - 125W at both front and both rear, 250W center and 250W sub woofer. It can be almost too loud if I have it set too high when watching an action movie and things start to blow up. There is enough wire on the speakers to spread the speakers out - roughly 6 ft on the center and sub woofer, 10 ft on the front ones and 30 ft on the rear - to get a good sound. It also plays CD's and is compatible to use wireless Bluetooth headphones, As much as I liked my old 3D home theater system I'm glad it broke and that I replaced it with the Sony BDV-E3100

If you just looking for something good and not want to spend that much on it this is a great choice because it comes with blu-ray player already included and blutooth. The sound is really good and loud, I would definitely recommend this. I prefer this over any other surround sound in its category.

I had the previous model Sony home theater system and this is very similar. Great sound, looks great and works well. Some of the differences from the previous model are: 1. This holds only 1 CD/DVD at a time. The prev model held 5 (no big problem for me). 2. The older model came with a microphone that had a VERY long cord that you would plug into the unit and place where you would be sitting and then it would play various test tones from each speaker and automatically adjust the relative volume levels of all the speakers, giving you EXTREMELY great sound. This newer unit does not. For this unit, you have the measure the distance from where you are sitting to each speaker and enter that into a menu. This causes vastly inferior sound, since this does not take into account the acoustic characteristics of the room the way the microphone/test tones does. This is a problem and the sound is nowhere near as crisp and realistic as the older Sony unit. One of the really impressive improvements on the this unit is that it now comes with wireless wifi built-in. That means I can connect this wirelessly to my computer and see the pictures, music, movies on my other computers. Really impressive, as it plays the movies wirelessly with no skips or lags, just the same as if I was watching them on the computer or disc. It plays most mp4 and avi format video, but not all. Also, since it has built in wifi, doing firmware updates is quick and easy (no downloading and burning a dic with the firmware on it), just go to the menu, have it check for new firmware and if there is new firmware available, just tell it to install. It does seem that after the firmware update, things seemed to go faster, esp when starting a movie off a disc. It's hard to imagine getting all the features this unit has with great Sony sound for anywhere near the price of this unit. I only wish they still had the microphone/auto-calibrate function on this unit, since, for me, that's the only real drawback. The microphone/auto-calibration really made the sound crisp and realistic.

Super happy with this player and the sound quality! Easy installation. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is because my new Sony 4K Ultra HD tv and this Sony player fight each other when I raise or lower the volume. They raise and lower at same time, but seeing two different volumes on screen is weird. Have pressed The sync button, sometimes resolves, but shouldn't have to deal with each time I turn on, that's why I purchased the Sony player instead of another brand. Other than that small thing, love it!

I was happy with the ease of set-up and have another sony blu-ray in my mancave that works awesome as well. The only reason I did not give 5 star was that the speaker wires were direct connect with plug ends and as I already had the living room wired for surround I had to splice into the speaker wires. Other than that a 5 star system !!

The setup took just minutes and after that, I just set up some preferences, explored the system, and started streaming music from my phone throughout my living room. I have to say, I'm not especially impressed with the sound quality, but for the ease of use and features available (I wanted a system with Bluetooth connectivity, apps, and a blu ray player), it was well worth the money spent. Happy customer!
