Ace combat is one of the best flight simulator arcade style jet games ever ! It has a ton of missions plus the multiplayer is one of the best so far. The VR mode is outstanding and you feel like you’re in the game or the pilot itself I cannot recommend this game enough !!!!

Always been a big fan of the series and I love it. The mission is somehow difficult since I’ve played the last game. I’m also saving up for the PS VR so I can check out the VR mission. I need to slow down playing this game because it’s addictive. A must have game for the fan.

The Ace Combat games are probably the most renowned flight games on consoles. They are very pick-up-playable with its arcade style gameplay given how your fighter jet can hold like 80 missiles. 7 continues this and despite the arcade gameplay, you can pull off some cool real life maneuvers if you're skilled enough like the post stall maneuvers, cobra, and kulbit. The melodramatic story and epic soundtrack by Keiki Kobayashi is still there. While the story isn't as good as 5 was, it still serves it purpose of providing motivation and making you feel like a hero. Moreover, it takes place in the fictional Strangereal so there's some connection to the older games though not enough that newcomers won't be lost. Graphically speaking the planes are very impressive and crisp. Flying through clouds cause your screen to develop an ice effect, which also affects gameplay since missiles have a harder time tracking you through the clouds. I should mention that there are three playable VR missions that I highly recommend if you own a PSVR. The immersion and added depth perception adds a lot. The graphics on VR aren't quite as good as the regular game missions, but it's still good enough to be impressive. I can't recommend this game enough for fans of the series. For new ones, it's certainly not a bad starting point even if it's the seventh game.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Standard Edition for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 is an exhilarating flight experience that leaves you breathless. From the moment you take off into the wild blue yonder, you're immersed in stunning visuals, heart-pounding dogfights, and adrenaline-fueled missions. The controls are intuitive, allowing both seasoned pilots and newcomers to dive right into the action. Whether you're soaring through the clouds or engaging in intense aerial combat, every moment feels cinematic and epic. With its captivating storyline and immersive gameplay, Ace Combat 7 is a must-have for any aviation enthusiast or action gamer.

I pre-ordered this game to receive it and the bonus of Ace Combat 5 the Unsung War. I received the physical game and digital instructions without any problem from Best Buy. On to the product itself...the graphics are great. The first several missions serve as a decent tutorial assuming you are newer to the series. My only complaint is the Elimination missions which appear on occasion being a bit annoying (getting a certain amount of points in a time limit or failing the mission). This comes to mind because of checkpoints being restricted to the start of major new objectives so failure does cost time. However, there are multiple difficulty levels and points can be acquired in the campaign or multiplayer to buy new planes and upgrades to use in either mode, ultimately mitigating any frustration. With the different objectives and enemy types noted before each mission, strategy comes to a mix of picking the right bird for the job, upgrades and your own personal preference. Combine that with the immersive pilot chatter and soundtrack in missions, and I recommend this game. At the time I write this review, the Ace Combat 5 bonus download no longer exists for physical or digital copies so bear that in mind. That could well be why this game is on sale for $50 right now (week of 2/24/19). Note: this review is based off my experience in the first eleven missions of twenty in the campaign.

It's been a long time since the last big Ace Combat game but this one has all the series hallmarks and is a great time. If you're not familiar, Ace Combat isn't a full on flight simulation, closer to an arcade experience with easier controls. The story campaign is about 8 to 10 hours long depending on difficulty/skill. But it's very novel in that it has boss fights, which you wouldn't expect from a realistic-ish looking jet fighting game. Mechanically, most missions consist of flying into an area with a jet load out (you get all purpose missiles, and then can pick a secondary weapon, better air to air missiles, or specialized air to ground missiles if you're fighting a lot of ground/sea units). Then you go in and destroy your targets until complete. They mix it up with some flying challenges throughout the campaign, such as flying a preset path, or navigating a canyon to stay under a certain altitude to avoid satellite detection (think the Death Star trench run from Star Wars). The soundtrack is incredible (lot of choral and orchestration in the score). I mainly come to Ace Combat for the music and gameplay, and this one delivers on both of those aspects. Outside of that there is a big competitive multiplayer mode which I wasn't as big a fan of, due to everyone being incredibly good at the game, and there are some online modes that benefit you if you've just played more than other people because you have more jets and equipment unlocked. Some people really get into it, but that's not my forte. Lastly it does come with a short (~30 minutes) campaign you can play if you have a Playstation VR headset. It's just three missions, and it's a ton of fun. I would hope they add more VR missions to the game as I had an absolute blast playing in VR, so that's a nice bonus if you already have a headset. Definitely one of the best games I've played this year.

Not that there’s a ton of competition in the air combat genre, but this game is outstanding. Great graphics, fun gameplay, and an interesting storyline. It even has DLC to expand the story and get new jets! The only thing i wish it had was more multiplayer options, especially cooperative campaign.

Well it's been over 11 years since we seen this series on the Playstation and even though this series is a cult favorite not sure why it took so long to come out with a new version. I found myself right at home with the controls and game play and that's a good thing considering this new installment expects the same out of everyone. There is no training mission. You jump right into the action. It's basically if you fail you try again until you get it right. This approach may be met with some resentment considering there are few and very far between check points in the game missions themselves. This means a failure to complete an objective may result in repeating from the start of the mission which equals 20 some minuets each time. The series is known for progressively getting harder and harder as you near the end of game. Ace Combat gives plenty of difficulty settings so even a first timer to the series can get the hang of the controls . Just like with all games that challenge your reflexes it will be a very long time before you become an ACE at ACE COMBAT 7. I found the story mode to be pretty much the same as past ACE COMBAT games which isn't a bad thing but the narrative can get a bit long winded. Thankfully you have the option to skip these scenes if you just want to get right back into the next dog fight. It's worth the purchase and I found the replay value a little lacking but, if you revisit this after a few months i'm sure it will be just as fun as it is when you 1st played it.

I've always loved the Ace Combat series, so I was counting the days until this released. It certainly helped when I heard about the VR missions that would be included. So far, the campaign is really good. Storyline leans a bit towards the melodramatic, but the game play excels. Graphics are amazing. Enemy fighters are more challenging (even on "regular" difficulty), or maybe it's been too long since I've played. The VR missions are where this game truly stands out, however. I snagged a Hotas Flight stick on sale, and man does it add to the experience. Tracking enemy fighters as they whiz over my head, then pulling a 4g inverted dive to chase them down... wow. As close to Top Gun as I'll ever get. I hope they add more VR missions in the future. Great game.

Ace Combat 7 is amazing. I've not had such a thrilling experience in many years on modern platforms, and its tight, gripping combat had me on the edge of the seat the entire time. The story is big and complex and has the same feeling and charm as the PS2 entries of the series.

Playing this game with the Top Gun music paying playing from the 80's makes me feel light a Top Gun Fighter Jet Pilot...so thrilling & have you use the HOSTA controller then that just adds even more trills & realism to the game & to go even further play some of the fight mission on PS4 VR...now your not just playing but your in it now...wow, if you have that set up congratulations you know how it is, but it you don't then check it out at a friend first or just get the VR set up...just take it easy in the air at first or you might just want to land that jet until your stomach can handle the maneuvers.

I'm a casual gamer and also a fan of military aircraft so this game was a given for me. I am impressed with the graphics and while the gameplay is not a simulator, it is fun and super engaging. This game has been without a doubt the best VR gaming experience on the PS4 for me. From the moment of launching off a aircraft carrier to air combat, the VR experience in this game is amazing. It gives you a very small glimpse of what a actual combat pilot see's and experiences and makes you appreciate the skill these people have to pilot these things in the air. Very impressive game and recommend to anyone.

I pre ordered this game and my first day with it has been phenomenal. This is an arcade flight game first and foremost. Do not expect a full on slight simulator experience. The graphics are simply amazing and the game play is crisp and fast. The VR missions will leave you feeling as if you were just an some intense air combat.
