Best Ace Combat to date!

Amazing graphics and fun missions (plenty of variety, not just "shoot these planes down and return to base"). The story is even pretty decent, but it's Ace Combat so...
Online play is solid, but prepare to get owned unless you have the absolute best plane with the best upgrades.

A fantastic addition to the Ace Combat series, the game play and graphics are fantastic. The story however is confusing and leaves something to be desired compared to past games. However, it is still a fun a enjoyable addition to the AC family. The VR missions are incredible, but there are only 3 of them and you cannot use VR in the regular campaign or in multiplayer. I would have liked to have been able to make more use of the VR set. Overall, 4/5

Got ace combat for the VR mode but quickly discovered it wasn’t that great. Was hoping to free fly but that option was greyed out. I guess you have to unlock it first. However the campaign mode is awesome. The story is a little corny but plenty of voice acting and dialogue going on, they really put a lot of work into it. Graphics look great on PS4 pro with 4k OLED TV. Controls and gameplay are tight, and the game is a blast.

If you love Top Gun, fighter jets, or just planes overall, this game is the best.
Missions are fun yet challenging. Multiplayer is brutal. But the VR missions are super engaging. Well worth checking it out even without the VR

Amazing Game in VR with an Intense Comfort Rating!

I have only played this game in the VR mode. The graphic details are incredibly realistic, and the game play is amazing! This has a high intensity VR comfort level. I get nauseous easily in intense VR games, and this made me very queasy, but it was so realistic and fun, I couldn't stop. I actually didn't feel as bad as I have with other intense rated games, take it for what it's worth.
I would probably enjoy the game much more in standard mode, but I got it for the VR experience more than to actually play the game to completion.
I bought it on sale for $20, so if I got too sick, I didn't feel like I was wasting my money. I can always use it to introduce VR to friends who want to experience flying a fighter jet. It's worth $20 for that alone.
I can't rate the story or campaign modes because I've only played one VR mission. I have played previous versions of Ace Combat, so I can say if you are a fan, then I imagine you'll enjoy the enhanced quality and play of this game.

The reason to own this on the PS4 instead of the XB1 has everything to do with the VR mode. If you like air combat games, you'll have fun. Graphics are frequently stunning, but the games combat mechanics aren't exactly the high octane Call of Duty thrills most gamers are looking for. Which is exactly why the series is as popular as it is. The story is quite overdramatic though.

I always loved the ace combat games and since I have psvr that just made this game amazing. You can fully immerse yourself into the cockpit of the coolest jets and scenery. Sometimes looking around makes you feel like you are really there. Only problem is the VR is only a little piece of the game and not the whole game and thats why its not 5 stars

It’s really fun playing on the tv, but where this game REALLY comes through is PSVR, BOY OH BOY!!!! It is a real blast in VR!! I bought this game on release day for my Xbox One X, & it got a good 40 hours plus outa me, I got my $ worth, but bought it for my PS4 Pro because of the Black Friday sale, & it looks almost as good on the pro but it’s worth every dime just for the VR missions!!!

Being new to PS 4 and Air Combat sims I have to say this game is fantastic. The realism is awesome and the graphics make you feel as if you are in the plane. Haven't tried the VR option yet but it is definitely on the horizon. If you are into flight sims this one has to be in your library of games.

The game itself ha s a good story line, very tuff to play without a flight joystick and throttle. Limited VR flights, but...the VR....WOW!!! the VR part of this game is truly amazing, wish there was more VR availability in the story. The flight characteristics of the planes not in VR are disappointing, hopefully that will be fixed in the near future.
Overall, it's worth the money just for the VR.

A true return to form of the original hard core console flight action genre. The challenge is definitely up to the series standard with 20+ missions to explore in Strangereal. Don't believe the negative rumors that this game is impossibly hard, it just takes a bit of practice. Story is engaging and has some twists that add new personality we haven't seen before. Music is as always impressive with many call backs to previous tracks. The new MRP system, which allows you to buy planes and parts is a far cry from what other games do in the form of microtransactions. You have to earn the points to buy the best air systems and weaponry...you can't use real money to pay to win. Multiplayer is optional but not required to open all content. In fact the multiplayer and single player tracks are separated to avoid forcing the issue. All in all a great addition to the series and a nostalgic shot at when games were just games and not slot machines for corporate powers.

Honestly one of the most fun games I have played in a while. The single story is engaging and enjoyable. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is excellent. I really enjoy playing this game and highly recommend it, even if you've never played this series before (like me).

This is what you want if you were upset with the last few entries in the AC series. Its a return to form of the SIMULATOR gameplay and away from the the arcade styling of the last one and the Terrible XBOX spinoffs.
This is for hardcore flight sim fans on console.

This is my first Ace Combat and I am impressed. The visuals are pretty basic and the sense of speed is kind of lacking, but dog fighting with combat jets is just so fun. The actual story is engaging and mission design is varied. Timed missions can be frustrating. And there are only 20 missions which is kind of short imo, but worth a purchase.

I'm not gonna lie, this game would have gotten a 5 star review, if there was only flying and shooting involved. What was completely unexpected was the depth and quality of story mode... Genuinely surprised, at moments it felt like I was at the movie theatre watching a third world war fi movie. Good enough to break out some popcorn.
The only downside to this game, is that if you're in it just for the VR, there are only 3 missions available in it. Also, if you're always looking everywhere while flying in VR, you're gonna get motion sickness... That's not the game's fault, real pilots rarely look upwards or too much to the side.
That is all.

Still have not played this one yet. I have played the past versions of Ace Combat which I love. thinking of getting a flight stick as well. Have one for the PS2 and PS3 which make the game more fun and realistic.

I wasn't really the one to use it but my son said he liked it. I took a peak at the game beforehand I would say that the tutorial that are provided are a little advance, not saying that it is really hard but it takes time to learn the controls before you're able to say you full understand it. However, the graphics are amazing, for instance it was raining in the sky, so you're screen has rain drops on it. And for the clouds its not like clear clouds its like very thick clouds so you hav to navigate yourself to find the plane. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it gets confusing on what you're suppose to do after, like my son has been on the same level multiple times even though he took down the plane.

NAMCO learned from its mistakes in ace combat assault horizon and brought us an arcade flight sim in the vein of ace combat 4 and 5. Excellent controls, both beginner and expert, flight stick support, online dogfighting, VR mode.
