Just bought this computer for my son. I was hopeful based on the design that it possessed a M.2 Slot for SSD drives and it does! The slot only fits a M.2 - 2280 stick because there is only one mounting screw port present. I have included some photos to show everyone what is underneath. I placed a M.2 PCIe SATA Crucial MX300 275GB stick in the M.2 slot and it recognized and boots on the drive with no problem. The motherboard recognizes the drive as SATA 1 with SATA 0 being the 2.5 1TB drive that came with the computer. So I now have the 256GB drive running the OS and the 1TB drive that came with the computer (2.5inch WD Slim drive) as a storage drive.
Overall the computer with the upgrade has great specs for a student that is a moderate gamer.
Pros:
Dedicated graphics card
i7 Chip
M.2 Slot expandable
Touchscreen
Full size keyboard
12GB Ram
1TB HHD
Win10
Good battery life (3+ when playing intensive games, 5 to 6 under normal use)
Cons:
Poor documentation on dependability
No Ethernet port (Wifi Only)
No Optical Drive
Bloatware (way to many meaningless programs)
Requires a fresh install to get it's full potential and remove unnecessary bloatware

Perfect for College

I bought this computer because the Toshiba Satellite I have had for the past two years suffered screen damage and I needed something that was reliable and faster for college. I've had this computer for a few days and so far it has met my expectations.
Pros:
For starters, this computer comes with 12GB or RAM and 1TB HDD (you actually get about 950gb) drive; which is more than enough for a college student. I can watch videos, browse media-heavy websites such as Tumblr, use Photoshop, and write essays with little to no hangups. I haven't personally tried to play any games on here yet, but I imagine that they will work well given the specs. Although it has an HDD drive, I forget that it has one because this computer is so silent.
The screen is beautiful, with a solid 1080p display. The keyboard is very comfortable to use, and by default the backlit lighting comes on only when you type.
Cons:
Since the day I've had this computer, I've noticed pixel distortions on pop up windows, in the internet browser, and in certain apps. They're minor glitches that go away almost as quickly as they appear. The problem may have something to do with the Intel 520 graphics card or with Windows 10 in general, but I'm no tech wizard so I have yet to figure out why. I've also gotten a critical_process_died error message once, but I also think this is an issue with Windows 10, not the computer itself. (I've gotten the same error message with my previous laptop in the past few months).
While I like the concept of a laptop that can function as a tablet, I don't think it's ideal for one that requires you to fold the screen 180 degrees, let alone with one that has a 15' screen. I've folded it into tablet mode only twice since I've gotten it, and each time I was afraid I would break the hinges because of how awkward it was to fold it due to its size. If you're looking for a computer that you can use frequently as a tablet, I would suggest getting something like the Surface Pro 4 or a Surface Book, which allows you to detach the screen from the keyboard completely. But, if you're like me and just to use a computer as a laptop the majority of the time, this computer will do just fine.
Apart from the minor oddities that came with this computer, I am satisfied with this computer. I would give it 5 stars if not for the pixel distortions.

Programming and Minor Gaming

My objective was to find a laptop where it has enough horsepower to program arduinos, raspberry pi, and web development. On the side to watch YouTube videos and/or Netflix, then play some games . I was originally looking at the i5 with the Intel graphics, but the Intel graphics wasn't going to play some older games like sins of a solar empire. This laptop holds up pretty well, where the startup time is about 30 seconds, pretty responsive as a normal laptop and in tablet mode, decent audio output, can last up to 5hrs playing a game and watching videos, and stays pretty cool during high loads. I am able to program, compile, and debug while watching videos.
As for the bad, graphics doesn't support PlayStation Remote; during high load times (gaming and watching videos) the laptop will stutter freeze for a couple of seconds then work as usual; and then it has random shutdowns when you leave it in sleep.
Overall, a great laptop that can be used for students or common users to surf the web and watch videos. This should not be used for photo editing and high end gaming.
FYI: the ram can't be upgraded so it's stuck at 12gb.
Supposedly the hard drive can be replaced with a SSD. I have not done this, yet.

Great PC with outstanding battery life. I do wish it had a larger SSD as competitor models out there.
The screen brightness, performance, coolness (temperature), and all other factors show this to be a great PC!

My Favorite Laptop Ever!

I am a PhD student and I use my laptop constantly. With the exception of the offset and awkward to use track pad, this is by far my favorite laptop that I have ever owned. I got it on sale for $749, and purchased a Samsung 850 EVO SSD for $129 along with the data transfer cable, for a total of just under $1,000. That is a great value for the specs! In addition, the keyboard is excellent! Many other laptops looked great but had very bad keyboards. The battery life is not great, however it has not been an issue for me since I am always near an outlet. The trade-off of battery life for performance was worth it for me. The i7 and discrete graphics card have never been bogged down with any statistical analyses or academic software that I have used. I have had it for almost a year and have loved every day with it! :)

I was looking for a laptop to program using visual studio, android studio, eclipse, python, and VMware for Linux. I also wanted to play some games, so it had to run Steam.
I was originally looking at the i5 version, but I wanted the better video card, so the i7 version was preferred.
So far, it's sleek and pretty thin, but still powerful to perform my programming, run a Linux distro for kodi, and can still watch other videos on YouTube.
Don't expect a cd/DVD drive, but you can buy an external USB cd/DVD drive for pretty cheap (also a cd drive is the cause for thickness).
The cool additional features is the tablet mode and the touchscreen.
A con is the limited RAM, it's not upgradable.
Also I am getting about 5hr operation time.

As an adult college student, blogger, and entrepreneur I needed a laptop that could handle school work, office work, and a lot of creative work with graphics and such. After reading reviews online and talking with the helpful Best Buy staff I decided that the Acer - Aspire R 15 with the i7 core would fit the bill AND be in my budget. I'm so happy with the results! Not only does it provide the computing power I was looking for, but the flexibility of using it as a laptop, in tablet mode, or flipping it so that it's a display monitor is fantastic! Speaking of the display, I also like the screen size. It's big enough to be able to see easily, but small enough to carry in my backpack for school or bring to the kitchen to view a recipe. It's got great battery life, too.

I was frustrated by the lack of speed in my previous computer. This computer allows me to have split screen, have several windows open and bounce back and forth between windows. I am so happy and have not said a single cuss word since I got this new computer!

I know own 3 of them. Love: touch screen, 2-n-1, 10 key number pad (hard to find on 2-n-1) HDD size, speed, whole package. Only complaint: cooling fan a little aggressive but not a big deal.

Honest opinion,
It works well for what I want no problems with internet connections, no problems with speed of processing.
One slight annoyance, when it wakes up from sleep I have to wait several seconds before I can type in passcode/pin. Occasionally have to type it two times because I'm rushing it. But that is really a me problem I guess.
I didn't give 5 stars and again, this is me, but 5 stars is like 110%. I still give it an A rating so far.

This R15 is an upgrade from my previous Aspire 5253. I am most impressed by its power, multi-tasking abilities and battery life. It is about as thin as a macbook, starts up quickly, produces negligible heat, runs smoothly and quietly. Love this product.
