The Acer Predator Orion 5000 is a great PC for being a prebuilt. That's something coming from a person who builds PCs with 30+ years experience. Most prebuilts skimp out on a lot of parts, but surprisingly not this Acer. Well done.
First, In the box, you find a well packaged and protected tower PC, a baggie with some documentation papers and stickers, the power cord, RGB mouse and RGB keyboard. I didn't bother with the mouse and keyboard as I prefer to use my own K95 and G502.
While setting up the tower, I noticed my 1st gripe. The PSU doesn't have an on/off switch on it. Other than that, it is pretty straight forward. The 3070 can easily handle my triple monitor setup with ease. Another shocker for me and a huge thumbs up for Acer is the absence of a massive amount of bloatware. Turning it on the 1st time greets you with Windows 11 setup and customizations. I uninstalled most of the Acer software except for Predator Sense which is used for the RBG/Fan settings and performance/temp monitoring.
Hardware:
The tower itself is really well built. It is about the same as a Full Size tower with loads of space inside. The dual intake fans in the front are hampered by the closed off front tempered glass and have to rely on the sides of the front (see pic) to suck in cold air. Unfortunately this is the only place with intake as there are no fans on the bottom and the single fan in the back is the sole outtake. The top has an easily removeable mesh piece to access the screws holding in the support so you can add a radiator if you wish to switch to water cooling (I did this with a AIO 240mm and it fit just fine).
The motherboard is a proprietary mATX, which to me looks odd in a basically full size tower and doesn't take advantage of the space. But this doesn't handicap the PC in any way other than more PCIe slots but average gamer wouldn't even notice. Another plus for Acer is the cable management. Looks nice and clean and no loose plugs anywhere. The DDR5 RAM sticks are a generic SKhynix brand with green PCBs which look ugly, but luckily they are hard to notice. NVMe SSD is Samsung and performs as should.
GPU is a 3070 with a custom Predator housing and looks decent. Also the graphics card is being held up and supported by a custom bracket to prevent GPU sag. Nice touch, but kinda throws off the aesthetic.
CPU is a beast. Intel i7 12700F that is more than enough for people who just want to game or do any other applications on the PC. I am normally an OCer, but I felt the base stats for GPU, RAM and CPU were on point for this build.
Fan noise is both good and bad. Though you can customize it, there really isn't a sweet spot in my opinion. On auto, 90%+ of the time, it is deathly quiet (a good thing) even when gaming. But as soon as the temps get a little too close for comfort, they ramp up to a mini jet engine. If you're a headphone gamer, you won't notice at all.
Plenty of USB for your accessories. 3x USB-A and a solo USB-C on top and 5x more USB-A and another solo USB-C on the back. Also a headphone and mic input on top.
Performance
With the combination of the 3070 and a i7 12700k, there is no game this tower can't handle. I prefer 2k gaming (1440p) and it handles everything like a dream. Stray, Tomb Raider, Subnautica, CoD, Elden Ring etc constantly stayed in the high FPS and never stuttered.
Though I recommend going no higher than a 3070 for 2k gaming, this also handled 4k @ 60 well. I ran an HDMI cable to my TV just to try it out. My favorite open world sandbox is Subnautica and it maintained a constant 60 fps when playing. Mileage is going to vary on other games, but I just wanted to throw this out there to let you know what it can handle.
TL:DR - Yes it plays whatever you throw at it and should buy it.

Beautiful on the Outside; Powerful but Ugly Inside

I've used a few different pre-built gaming PCs over the past several years, but this is my first one from Acer. The drawbacks of pre-built PCs are well-known, including proprietary parts, poor cooling, and limited upgradability. Luckily, the Acer Predator Orion 5000 avoids most of these pitfalls and delivers great performance with the RTX 3070 + i7-12700F. I just wish the inside of the case looked as good as it performs.
=== DESIGN & CONNECTIVITY ===
- The Orion 5000 case is a tank — it is heavy and the chassis is nearly all metal, making it very sturdy. The front fans are surrounded in mesh for ample cooling. Acer claims that this case uses a “tool-less design,” but I still had to use a screw driver to loosen the screws to remove the glass side panel.
- There are four fans in the case — two at the front, one for the CPU, and one rear exhaust fan. All four fans are RGB-enabled and can be customized through the PredatorSense software. The Acer Predator logo at the front of the case also lights up. There are also some individual LEDs on the motherboard around the CPU that can be customized.
- Front I/O is pretty good, with three USB-A ports, one USB-C port, as well as headphone and microphone jacks. There are only 5 USB-A ports on the back of the machine, which seems small compared to other systems I’ve used.
- Important to know: the Intel i7 CPU variant in this system (12700F) does NOT have on-board/integrated graphics, so there are no DisplayPort or HDMI ports directly on the motherboard. If you ever remove the GPU for any reason, you won’t be able to plug a monitor into the system.
- Taking off the side glass panel is when things start to get ugly. This is a big case with a lot of open space inside, which is great for cooling. But Acer has done nothing to take advantage of this space. The GPU looks laughably small, especially connected to the metal support bracket which is nearly half its size. The motherboard is very small for a case of this size (appears to micro-ATX size), leaving tons of empty space under the GPU. The PSU cables are not braided and are secured with white zip-ties (at least the cables are black and not ketchup-and-mustard style). There are at least 6 inches of open space under the GPU, leaving bare many of the other cables the plug into the bottom of the motherboard. There are two sticks of DDR5 RAM, but they are the ugly OEM green style. There is also an unsightly cage for two 3.5-inch HDDs in the bottom right corner. None of these parts appear to be proprietary (even the PSU appears to be a standard ATX 800w PSU), but I expected a little better in a system at this price point. Luckily, most of this ugliness is not visible when the side panel is on.
=== PERFORMANCE, COOLING, & UPGRADES ===
- The RTX 3070 in this machine is very capable and stays very cool during gaming. If you’re gaming at 1440p or below, an RTX 3070 is the sweet spot and you can likely skip the 3080 variant of this system.
- Time Spy benchmark: 13,447 (graphics score 13,229; CPU score 14,839). Cyberpunk 2077 (1440p; Ray Tracing Ultra, DLSS Balanced): 55 fps average. Guardians of the Galaxy (1440p; High preset, Ray Tracing High): 110 fps. Halo Infinite (1440p; High preset): 75 fps average. These numbers are right in line with expected results, so Acer has not limited the performance of any hardware in this machine.
- The Intel i7-12700F is a very impressive CPU that will provide excellent performance for years to come. Compared to my other system with an unlocked 12700K, the Time Spy benchmark is a bit lower (CPU score of 14,839 vs 17,189). But for most users, this will have zero impact unless you need extreme performance for rendering or video editing.
- The included Wi-Fi card is capable of Wi-Fi 6E, allowing the system to connect to very fast 6 GHz networks. I've run several speed tests while connected to the 6 GHz band of my ASUS GT-AXE6000. Amazingly, I can nearly max out my Internet speed of 940mbps (download and upload) with the Wi-Fi 6E card in this laptop.
- This machine stays very cool during gaming. Both CPU and GPU temperatures hover in the 60s, though some of this will depend on the fan settings you choose in the PredatorSense software. There are only two fan presets (“Auto” and “Gaming”), though you can also individually control the speed of each fan. I don’t see an obvious way in the software to set a fan curve (so that fan speeds will increase only when needed), so you may need to get in the habit of manually adjusting the fan settings before you start gaming.
- Luckily, leaving the fans on “Auto” should be fine for most. I didn’t see any dramatic performance gains by selecting the “Gaming” preset. Either way, the fans are relatively quiet under heavy loads. Not silent by any means, but I’ve certainly heard louder fans from pre-built PCs. The large case with tons of air flow helps to keep things cool and keeps fan noise to a reasonable level. When idle, the system is whisper quiet and I can’t hear the fans unless I put my ear right next to the case.
- The 16 GB of DDR5 RAM is clocked at 4400 MHz. I would like to eventually upgrade to 32GB with better-looking sticks and possibly a higher speed, but it’s not clear which RAM speeds are supported by this motherboard.
- Upgradability is very good given the large amount of space available in this case. If you remove the GPU support bracket, you can easily fit a much longer GPU. There is plenty of space under the GPU to allow for a thicker card as well. The included PSU is not modular, but it is 800W and should suffice for most upgrades in the future. But the PSU can also be swapped out in the future thanks to its standard ATX size/enclosure. The HDD bay allows for two hard drives (or 2.5-inch SSDs with adapters), but I would have rather seen an additional M.2 slot on the motherboard.
=== OVERALL ===
All things considered, this is a very powerful and well-equipped PC. The RTX 3070 and 12-700F will provide excellent performance for the vast majority of PC gamers. I really like the design of the case and its solid construction, though I wish more attention was given to the appearance of the components used inside. Regardless, when the side panel is on and the RGB lights enabled, most of that ugliness fades away and you are left with a powerful system that runs very cool and quiet. Best of all, there is plenty of room inside for future upgrades and expansion.

Hello Ryanmcv, There are two M.2 PCIe Gen 4 slots for SSD's. One is under the GPU where the 1st SSD is installed and will be covered once the GPU is installed. The 2nd one is located next to DIMM slot/ ATX power connector. Once you install, you will need to secure the screw at the case. Awesome gaming computer with great upgradability

My first impression of the Acer Predator Orion 5000 is that it is bigger and heavier than I expected from the pictures. It’s case is noticeably bigger than all my other DIY mid tower computers I have put together in the past.
The box came with an ARGB keyboard and mouse along with a quick setup guide, quick reference manual, some fancy decals, and an AC power cord.
I really like the case and am extremely impressed by it. Not only is it aesthetically beautiful but it’s also very practical and roomy inside. It should be very easy to work with and offers easy access to all components.
Air flow seems very good as system temps and CPU temps remain reasonably cool while working and gaming. Based on my experience, the case and 3 large ARGB fans do a really good job of cooling the computer while also remaining very quiet. It’s probably the quietest computer I have ever used. Most of the time, it’s almost completely silent.
The Acer Predator Orion 5000 felt like it contained less bloat software compared to some other prebuilts that I have used in the past. It comes with two apps (PredatorArc and PredatorSense) that allows the user to monitor temps, and control fans and lighting effects of the ARGB components.
My computer came with the following components
Intel i7 12700F
2 8 GB sticks (giving a total of 16 GB) of SK Hynix DDR5-4800 memory
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 with 8 GBytes of Samsung GDDR6 256 bit wide memory
Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160 Mhz wireless adapter
Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD (rated for 7000 MB/s read and 5100 MB/s write).
The built-in Wi-Fi adapter was excellent as I got a strong and stable connection rate of 2402/2402 Mbps with my TP-Link Deco AX4300 Pro Mesh Wi-Fi router.
Running CrystalDiskMark on the Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR drive gave 7044.92 MB/s read and 5130.82 MB/s which closely matched its rated speed. This is a very high-end SSD.
Upgradability and expansion seems excellent. The Acer Predator Orion 5000 does not have a completely toolless case as it requires the removal of 2 screws before you can remove the side panels. But after that it is pretty much tool free.
It took me a while to figure out how to remove the tempered glass side panel. You must first lie the case flat on the ground, remove the 2 screws, press down on the latch while slowly sliding the tempered glass panel and carefully lifting up to remove it.
Removing the glass panel reveals plenty of upgradability. The motherboard contains a total of 4 slots for memory with 2 slots available so you can easily expand memory later. One of the empty slots seems to be slightly underneath the CPU fan so it looks like you can only use very low profile memory sticks when upgrading. I think it would be a tight squeeze to insert the memory in the slot underneath the CPU fan without removing the CPU fan but I think it’s doable.
The proprietary motherboard also contains 4 Sata ports of which (I think) two are connected to a 3.5 inch HDD/SSD tool free drive caddy and the two others are free. I think there are 2 additional spaces on the other side of the case for vertically mounted SSDs. There is a spot on the top of the case for something that seems like it might be for a hot-swap drive caddy but it looks unfinished.
The motherboard has two free open PCIe slots (x1 and x16) but the x1 slots seem a little too close to the graphics card for me to want to use it. Finally, the motherboard has one additional free M.2 nvme slot open.
So, overall upgradability and expandability seems excellent.
Handbrake encoding using the software MKV H.265 720p encoder preset gave around 120 fps when transcoding an episode of “The Good Place” for my Plex Server. The CPU temp rose to about 88 degrees during this test and I could hear a slight fan noise during this time.
Handbrake encoding using the H.265 NVENC 1080p encoder preset reported an astounding 1300 fps. It felt like it finished before I could blink. This blew away my previous record of 586 fps when using the AMD VCN H.265 1080p hardware encoder preset on a laptop using an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS with Radeon RX 6700S.
A 37 GB Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition install from an external SSD took about 17 minutes which is super fast.
Gaming performance is excellent. Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing Ultra setting at 2560 x 1080 gave an 57 average fps.
Resident Evil 2 (2019 Remake) with Ray Tracing enabled at 2560 x 1080 gave an 60 average fps.
Tomb Raider (2013) at 2560 x 1080 also ran at 60 average fps.
This system is able to handle most games easily at 2K resolution. This is my first system where I would feel comfortable playing games using ray tracing turned on.
While gaming, the system remained fairly cool and quiet with the CPU reporting a max temp of about 77 degrees and the GPU reporting a max temp of about 67 degrees.
During my short time with it, I feel that this is the best computer I have ever owned. It is an excellent gaming system as well as a superb content creation and software development workstation. The nVidia RTX 3070 is also useful for students wishing to explore topics such as machine learning. It offers excellent upgradability and expandability so it should be able to grow with the user for many years to come.
I give it my strongest recommendation to anyone looking to upgrade their computer system.

The Acer Predator Orion 5000 packs a lot of performance into a fairly unnecessarily large case. The selection of components is extremely well balanced with no real bottlenecks between CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage with very decent airflow for a prebuilt case. Acer's decision to add a lot of plastic molding to the metal case is an odd one at best, but it doesn't hurt the performance and its not as aesthetically "gamer" as many other computer manufacturers choose to do for their gaming desktops. The RGB lighting is addressable and well oriented, but the motherboard LEDs are a very strange implementation, especially given the relatively low cost for a manufacturer to incorporate RGB LEDs into RAM sticks, GPUs, or even just a cleaner implementation of flat LEDs on the motherboard. They honestly look like someone glued a bunch of random LEDs around the board instead of thoughtfully using RAM with a heat spreader that has lighting built in or LED strips inside the case. That said, when not looking at the motherboard, the customization available to change the lighting throughout the case and in all of the case fans is a huge relief compared to what some of Acer's competitors offer at this price point and they chose components that can easily be upgraded or reused down the road, even the case is able to be reused, if you wish, with a standard ATX layout and any weird supports or random metal oddities staying out of the way of switching the motherboard if something were to require replacing it or you decide to change CPU platforms.
In the box: the case is well packaged and everything inside was securely (in some cases, VERY securely... the GPU bracing) tightened down with a lot of reinforcement and bracing in the case. The tempered glass and case is all very well protected with nice quality, reusable foam that is form fitted. The I/O on the back panel is a little limited for the USB mega-users (me) but the front/top panel offers 3 USB-A and 1 USB-C, along with headphone and microphone 3.5mm ports. The keyboard is a membrane keyboard that is "gamer" looking, it is more than usable, but you may want to use one of your choice. Overall the keyboard is okay and has a nice implementation of RGB, same with the mouse. Both are wired and will probably be the first thing you will upgrade. The RAM is one of the bigger disappointments for aesthetics, as both sticks are green PCBs with not incorporated heat spreader or LEDs and do not match the black PCB of the motherboard and GPU, but with great performance and TWO sticks of RAM... and that's what truly matters.
Performance: excellent! I threw AAA game titles at this machine and it ate them up at high framerates, minimal noise, and cool. As odd as I personally find this case to be, the airflow is quite good! GTA V at 1440P all max settings was no problem, averaging around 140 FPS, Battlefield V and COD:BOCW/Warzone were very similar, with FPS matching my 165Hz 1440P monitor with ease and getting closer to 200 FPS average with frame limiting off! The i7 12700F and 16GB of 4800MHz DDR5 RAM was able to handle Cinebench R23 pretty handedly, with performance more in line with beefier productivity processors, like the AMD Threadripper series, and still with minimal noise and limited heat from the system.
Overall, if you feel confident in building your own system, the current GPU market allows for the ability to actually get GPUs like the RTX 3070 in this system for a competitive price and you will be able to choose your own aesthetics. From my prior experience with Acer gaming laptops and monitors, I am quite please by the look they decided to go with on the Predator Orion 5000 and the decision to make all of the LEDs addressable in an easy to use software system. The "bloatware" is the pretty standard stuff and really quite limited, which is very nice. This is a nice system, it would be something that is a great choice is you're buying a gaming PC for someone or yourself and you don't want to get lost in the weeds of custom built systems or which system integrator is okay or good. This is a very safe, great performing, very upgradable pick for a gaming setup that will work now and in the future.
I can say, I would probably recommend this system for anyone who is not comfortable building their own, looking for the name recognition of a larger manufacturer like Acer, and wants something that is ready to go straight out of the box while being able to handle demanding gaming and productivity loads. I am very impressed and the case has definitely grown on me in the past few weeks daily driving the system.

The Predator Orion 5000 gaming PC from Acer brings respectable power in a simple package with plenty of room to work with in the case. This is a great PC for someone who wants a rapid entry into PC gaming with a little room to learn and grow.
There is so much room in this case to work with. And the lighting from the fans really fills it out when it’s all closed. That space is much appreciated when the time comes to do some maintenance. Like a regular cleaning of the fans and internals form dust collecting inside or installing new components. This case gives you more than enough room to operate in without fear of really damaging anything. And the bracket that comes attached the frame of the PC and to the end of the GPU is a great and necessary add for these increasingly large GPU’s that really need that structural support.
Getting this updated and up to speed was a breeze as bloatware was absent in the setup. It took way more time to get my Steam library updated for a few testing games than it did to get all the updates the computer itself needed.
How quiet this tower operates under load was a pleasant surprise. Running through 3D Mark tests felt like such a smooth experience. I was just impressed with how fast you can get this machine running and gaming at decent results with nothing but factory settings and software updates. You would likely spend more time doing that with a console for each game these days. And I didn’t encounter a single odd-ball hiccup during any installation or execution of a program or test. It’s just a clean experience.
This rig really impresses for a pre-built configuration that is as straight forward as it is. It’s amazing what kind of performance you can get with components that are so much more compact. (Not you, GPU) And that’s what makes this rig great. You get a lot of performance in a decently sized case with room to spare and to work in with a system that works flawlessly out of the box. It’s a new PC gamers perfect introduction who has a desire to dig deeper with time.

I bought this hyper fast gaming desktop as a gift to myself when Best Buy had a sale on it and a "no interest" incentive. I've have been loving the major speed this desktop has! My previous laptop was super slow. I can be using this computer within a minute of pushing the On button. Internet surfing just flies and all of my games work great on it too. The fans are practically silent and the housing stays totally cool. The changing color lights are pretty cool. They can be turned off, I believe. This unit takes up a lot of floor space but works out fine under my table. The only thing that could make this better for me is if it were wireless but is manageable. This does not come with a monitor and speakers but that means you can choose whichever you like best. Comparing prices online, this was pretty reasonable for such high quality!

This is the first PC I’ve ever bought and I had my friend help me find the one with the right specs. Having it now for about 7 months has been great and learning about my PC and how it operates has been extremely fun to learn about. The PC runs all games great and I love the case it came in as it give me a ton of options to upgrade my specs in the future because it is so big. I’d definitely recommend this PC to someone if they have the money but to wait until Black Friday or cyber Monday to wait for an even better deal as that’s when I bought it.

Love the computer but it also came with Windows 11 Home which is not compatible with much of my software such as photoshop. This Gaming PC had been absolutely outstanding. The speed is amazing, and every single game I've thrown at it has performed flawlessly. The i7-1200F is a screamer, and the 3070 NVIDIA makes childs play of everything.
The fans do not get super loud, even under strain.
the KB and mouse lights can all be synced together using the Acer app that comes installed. As well as the Tower LED's can be completely configured for pattern and colors.
Almost ZERO bloat, so this took no time at all to get fully setup.
This was a major major win of a purchase and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. It is one solid piece of well put-together equipment.
Very very impressed.
