Great for casting my phone to a TV in hotels

I used the receiver to watch shows (Netflix and stuff) in a hotel with not so great wifi (okay for browsing, not for streaming) on an extended business trip. It doesn't require a wifi network or anything, so I was able to just sync my phone and use my unlimited data plan to watch stuff without constantly buffering or dropping to potato quality on the hotel wifi. The video and audio was good (or at least as good as the hotel TV was, I feel that was the limiting factor). There was no need for any app, it just worked right out of the box - plug it into the TV and wall, select screensharing on my phone, and choose the receiver. One issue I noticed is that the receiver doesn't have any options - including any overscan settings. So if the TV its hooked up to overscans it will crop off the edges of the projected phone screen and to fix this you have to disable overscan in on the TV. Fortuitously the TV I had at the hotel had a remote option to disable overscan (though I had to select it each time I turned the TV on). So you may want to consider this if you'll be using this on random TVs. The only other issues is that to work the phone's display must stay on (you can't just start watching something and then turn off the display). This is more a phone issue though than a problem with the receiver (they can't change how the phone operates). But it does mean that your battery will drain quickly, so it's best to be plugged in while casting (which shouldn't be a problem, but It's good to know).

I was looking for a device that would allow me to project content from my laptop to my big screen tv. I once had such a device and paid over $100 for it. So far, this device is working as advertised. I can connect the ScreenBeam to my tv via USB, but I choose to connect to my receiver. It works like having duel monitors. I can place content on the big screen and still work on my laptop. Since I have the device connected to my receiver, I power it with my cord that came with the device. Setting up the device is easy. Plug it into the receiver, go to laptop and connect via Bluetooth. My laptop was able to find it with no problems. In terms of cons, the device does get warm while in use and it is warm as it is plugged into the receiver and plugged in. So far, no major problems but I may start to unplug it when not in use. Also, I must reconnect each time I want to use the ScreenBeam. If you are looking to do what I wanted to do, I would recommend this device. I purchased another one for another tv and I can use it on the same laptop by connecting via Bluetooth. It is similar to Google's Chromecast and cost a bit more at $40. I hope this helps.

Having already purchased Microsoft's "Wireless Display Adaptor" as an accessory for my recently purchased Surface 3 device, but experiencing some set up issues with it; I came across the "ScreenBeam" device while shopping in Best Buy. It caught my eye because it was on sale and was only a fraction of the cost that I'd paid for my Mircrosoft version of it.. Seeking a viable alternative, curiosity/spiked by the propaganda on the box but actually convinced by the cost (i.e. convincing myself; 'what the heck-the sale price plus a few Best Buy "Bonus Points" that I had to use made ir well worth the risk for me'), I purchased it. I have absolutely no regrets about my decision or the purchase of the device; other than the fact that I wish I'd known about it before spending about twice as much on its Mircrosoft counterpart. The ScreenBeen is virtually plug & play and the extension and AC adaptor cord is about twice as long as the Microsoft device. Hence, my Microsoft version is now serving as my backup, as I'd intended the ScreenBeam to be. Suffice it to say; I love this thing!! So much so, I've since purchased another as a gift for my son as a supplement to his college graduation gift (I.e. as an accessory to his Surface 3 device/grad gift). I'm thinking about purchasing yet another or two for the wife and/or daughter as Christmas presents.

At the same time I bought the Screenbeam Mini 2 we bought a new smart TV. My husband has a Lenovo Yoga we bought also from Best Buy in the last few months that we wanted to use this device to mirror the image on his computer screen onto our new TV to watch his lectures for school. However it is not compatible with the Lenovo Yoga. We went back to Best Buy to troubleshoot with them why it wouldn't work on the Lenovo Yoga and they had no answers except exchange the screenbeam mini 2 to see if its the product. We called Actiontec three different times talking to three different employees and the ONLY reason they could come up with why it wouldn't working is you cant use a firewall or defender to use the product. They have no other advice for why it would not work. It wasn't until we called Lenovo Yoga when they figure it out the new computers are not installed with Miracast. This product is made to be compatible with phones. If you want to use it for a computer you are most likely are not going to be able to so for us we wasted too much time on a product that was never going to work.

    Samsung S6 owners must read

Samsung S6 owners must read this. The S6 no longer supports MHL ( hdmi direct input with adapter corded to the TV) I purchased the Samsung allcast wireless hub and it did work but with less than adequate results. The video playback when mirroring was choppy and robotic. Connecting the device was a struggle constantly having to push the reset button.I also bought a Microsoft wireless display adapter, no luck connecting with that either. I thought I was out of options and I tried this. It works excellent. Phone connects with no issues and the playback on the tv is smooth with no lag. You do not need Internet service with this device. ( you will use the data on your phone). I was going out of my mind trying to find a way to mirror with my new phone and find a review regarding the Samsung S6. I hope this helps.

After reading the reviews I decided to purchase this for use with my Samsung Galaxy S6. The S6 does not support MHL and I needed a way to cast onto my TV without wifi. The product worked great for the first 3 days, except it would disconnect itself from my phone every now and then. After the 3rd day my or my wife's phone (also a Galaxy S6) would no longer connect to the device. I contacted Actiontec customer service and went through a no hassle warranty replacement and received my replacement a week later. The new device worked decent with my wifes phone, but would not work with mine. The new device still would disconnect at an annoying rate with my wife's phone. I had updated my phone to the newest Android software 6.0.1 and the ScreenBeam Mini 2 does not work with Android 6.0.1 Using my wifes phone we used Actiontec's app to check for update and it did not have a new firmware update available. I contacted Actiontec customer service and spoke with the same agent and was not helped this time around. Another week after that the device stopped working completely. I will be returning to Best Buy for a refund. The idea of this device is great but maybe a better company could execute it better. After 2 devices and a total of about 15 days working I will not give this device or company a chance at a 3rd strike!

I needed a product that could share the screen of my laptop on large monitors, LED/LCD TVs and even some projectors wirelessly without an existing wireless network available. I'm an IT professional and I am often required to give presentations for proposed software and network solutions and this little piece of gear is an indispensable item in my laptop bag. Not only does it share my Windows 10 Pro laptop screen effortlessly but it does so with my Android smart phone and the native screen sharing capabilities. The only problem that I've run into on occasion, and the reason for knocking off one star, is that some usb ports located behind thicker TVs will hamper the smooth flow of data causing some stutter and screen tearing. This is easily fixed by using the extension to get the receiver out from behind the screen and in line of sight of the device transmitting. All-in-all a great and inexpensive tool for presentations or just sharing stuff from you phone onto a large screen. **NOTE: My laptop has an Ultra 4K screen and I didn't notice any problems in image quality on older TVs.

    Absolute Waste of Time

Bought this with the hopes of being able to screen content from my laptop to my television so I could have ease of access without having to move my laptop around the room constantly as well as mess with power cables and HDMI cables. This worked great for one whole day on my Windows 10 laptop. I had read reviews about how these easily burn out if left plugged in for months. So once I was done watching a few TV shows I unplugged the Screenbeam from the wall. I tried again the next day and my laptop would not pair with it. I luckily have an HDMI port built into my laptop so I plugged it into that to see if perhaps it needed a firmware update. Though it kept disconnecting from my laptop while attempting to do that which proved this unit had already broken after 4 hours of useage. Absolute garbage and headache for me. No need to waste your time here. Trust the reviews of people that have had it burn out and stay away. I can also confirm this unit gets incredibly hot to the touch after a few minutes of being plugged in. I opened mine up since there's no going back for me and found they crammed 2 huge metal power ports needed to convert the incoming data to the HDMI on a tiny thin circuit board.

The best thing about this device is that it can project whatever is on your phone onto a TV screen. It is wonderful for taking a streaming movie on the phone and projecting it on the TV screen. My wife likes to watch episondes of HGTV and she can stream those to her phone...but she likes to watch them while exercising. So, since she doesn't want to be holding her phone while walking on the treadmill, she merely "mirrors" her phone display/sound onto a nearby TV and can enjoy her walk and show simultaneously. One problem however is that the device seems best when it is dealing with a streaming signal. If one is trying to view a static image on the TV screen the image will show up on the TV for awhile....but it will drop off. For example, if you look up a recipe on your phone and want to make it visible throughout the kitchen one can project the phone image of the recipe in large font on a nearby TV. However, after a few minutes, the image will drop out and the connection between the phone and TV will expire. One has to constantly reconnect the two devices if one wants to see the static image stay visible on the TV.

The associate suggested this as solution to play phone to tv. When I say this was the best $50 bucks ever spent!!! I had been running ragged trying to find cords and mhls and hdmi and nothing fit my phone or was being told I needed wifi etc. I plugged this into HDMI port on tv and select screen mirror from phone and WALA!!!! Your phone screen is displayed on tv. Me and bf are able to watch our shows and movies comfortably. No issues with picture or sound ..it appears just as does on phone...only thing the screenbeam has to be plugged into power outlet. I am in heaven..All the tv entertainment without the monthly cable fees. Whatever apps u have downloaded on phone u can watch on ur tv!!! I have a LG G6 phone and no Wi-Fi.

Tried Different adapters, Paid $50 plus tax at store, few bucks cheaper Online, No Best Buy Military Discount... Ohhh Well, But Works Perfect out of the Box From my Samsung S7 to mirror the screen For use on my boat, where I have No WIFI... This Works Wonderfully with Samsung Phones, My S7 for sure...!!! Also FIOS app now is data free, If you have cell and home FIOS, which I do, So Again, Now I can while on my boat on my HDMI equipped TV, Boat or home, RV, Plane, Hotel, Anywhere, because Again, I DON'T Have WIFI on MY Boat... Also I can access and watch my DVR, or live TV, thru the FIOS app data free on boat...!!! Great Item for Samsung Phones, because ChromeCast ONLY WORKS WITH WIFI...

Great Device For Mirroring Asus Zenpad Tablet

I recently purchased an ASUS Zenpad S 8.0 tablet from Best Buy and gave it a rave review (5 stars). One of my problems with it however was the lack of a wired HDMI output to mirror the screen on a TV. I was reading through the online manual for the ASUS tablet and discovered it has the ability to connect to a TV wirelessly via Miracast with its built in "PlayTo" function. I purchased the ScreenBeam Mini 2 knowing it supports Miracast. Set-up was simple, and in a couple of minutes my ASUS was being mirrored on my Samsung smart TV! Love the fact there are no wires connected to the tablet, and that you can plug the ScreenBeam into a USB port on the TV for power....no need for a wall jack! Also, the tablet A/C port is open so that I can leave it plugged in while watching my tablet on the TV without draining its battery. Now I am happy the ASUS did not have the wired HDMI output, otherwise I would have never discovered the ScreenBeam!

I'm not a long winded person, so I'll just say that the Actiontec Screenbeam works! It works great- it actually works better than great! It connects to the phone and mirrors the screen to the tv or monitor that the Actiontec is plugged into. Media content and even sound are reproduced smoothly with zero lag time! Movies, videos, web pages, ANYTHING you view on your cell will be mirrored by the Actiontec Screenbeam. Setup is quick and super easy (I had mine up and running in less than 5 minutes). Best of all it DOES NOT REQUIRE an active wifi internet connection to work! Do yourself a favor and GET this product. YOU WILL BE SATISFIED!!

So, I bought this for my Mom who can't get reasonably-priced home internet where she lives. But she does have an unlimited data plan with her cell phone. So, I figured a device like this would be useful for her to enjoy web content (like Netflix, etc) on her TV screen. Well, it certainly does that. It works as advertised and does a pretty decent job. However, it was shortly after buying this that I realized a Roku has the same wi-fi direct functionality built in. So, a Roku can cost less, do what this does, and you'll also get all the other cool benefits of having a Roku. This is a one-trick pony device. Had I realized a Roku had the same functionality, I would not have spent the money on it.

Plug into HDMI port and USB port (for power), when it's ready to connect, use Android app (widget) "Miracast Shortcut" to connect and your phone is mirrored. The sound goes silent on the phone. Away from your home with its premium channels, at another home/hotel without premium channels? No problem, watch premium content on the TV for free using phone apps HBO Go or SHO Anytime or whatever media app using your main home's cable provider login. Or watch any video that's on your phone or streamed (e.g., YouTube). I love it. One of my best purchases this year (I keep it at a vacation home that has a minimal cable subscription).

I lucky enough to have an unlimited data plan with Verizon. Unfortunately, in the rural area where I live, I ONLY get a solid LTE connection when my phone is by my kitchen window. I looked for options to mirror my phone to my smart tv, but most options required a wifi connection. Due to living in a rural area, I have spotty broadband connection. So, not only is it not a solid connection, but my low speeds cause anyone else online to have spotty internet. Enter the Screenbeam! :) This does not work with my broadband connection, but rather uses wifi direct. Now, I am able to put my phone by the kitchen window and mirror my device to the Screenbeam using my LTE connection. I can now watch Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc. Set-up was easy...plug and play and you're good to go! This is exactly what I was looking for and works seamlessly.

I stay in a lot of hotels because of my job. I had tryed Rokus , ChromeCasts , and other similar products to cast my S4 and now S7 to the hotel TV's. These things required a router to function. Because of the way most hotel routers are setup and the sometimes slow/low down/up speeds of the Internet it was impossible or unbearable to try to use these to cast. This thing works as a direct wifi from phone to device so no need for router or alternative internet access. Before this thing i was dragging around a 32inch Samsung tv just to beam to directly. Now that I have this I can carry more stuff and worry less about my screen! Recently I havent been able to get the sound to work , but not sure if it was the hotel TV's , the device , or my phone. Looking into the problem, and I will update when I figure something out.

I purchased this device so I could mirror my PC display to my TV. But my PC was not equipped with Miracast. So the receiver by itself would not work. I needed the transmitter as well. Turns out most PC's purchased with Windows 8 should be equipped with Miracast. My PC came with Windows 7, so no Miracast. I was using a WiDi wireless adapter to mirror my PC to my television in Windows 7. But then I upgraded to Windows 10 and the WiDi device no longer worked with Windows 10. I explained all of this to the Best Buy salesman. Turns out he was only half way knowledgeable on what I needed now to stream from my PC to my TV. When I added the Actiontec transmitter to my PC, the receiver worked fine. It was just a little tricky setting up and both devices cost me twice as much together as my original WiDi Wireless adapter. Thanks a lot Microsoft.

Todays cellphones such as my galaxy s7 and many others are ditching MHL in favor if wireless streaming. Well i have a pioneer 4000NEX that doesnt have gps and at the time i had an htc m7 that did screen mirroring through the MHL cable. Sadly i got a galaxy s7 and MHL was no longer an option, but i heard about screen beam. I plugged it into my 4000 nex via the HDMI input and wow. Now i can use the gps on my phone, surf the net, watch you tube/movies in my car. Awesome product. I got mine on sale and was cheaper than amazon. It takes a little while to load when you get into your car, but if you are like me and like to customize your ride with awesome tech than you cant go wrong with this little device.
