Amazing, Fast, and OLED Touch Screen is Beautiful

My Apple Macbook Pro died after using it in college for 4 years. Being a software developer/light gamer/movie and video editing aficionado, I knew I needed something a little more powerful than my previous device. My heart was originally set on the Dell XPS model (which is priced at over $2200). I was about to make the purchase of the Dell when I saw this Alienware right next to it. What really made me go "woah!" was the blue, back lit keyboard. What kind of laptop has a blue back lit keyboard?! I closed the laptop and examined the body of it, the whole thing screaming "futuristicly modern". Examining the specs, I realized that this machine could do everything I needed it to do and more! By the time the sales associate came by, I pointed to the laptop and said "This. This one." So far I've had the laptop for a week and it runs very smoothly. Alienware has done an amazing job on this laptop. I have tried running games like "The Witness" and "The Sims 4" on it and they both run perfectly with the highest settings. My favorite part of the entire laptop is the OLED touch screen! You can tell Alienware went all in on this beautiful screen and it really shows. Windows 10 has not looked more beautiful. Overall, if you're looking for a new laptop, and your priorities are speed/discrete graphics, then I would go with this one hands down. The back of the laptop does open up for expanding memory and RAM as well, so don't let the 500 gb storage hold you back. Highly, highly recommended!

This machine is light enough to travel. With a 13 inch OLED it is perfect for traveling in your backpack or suitcase unlike the 17 or 19 inch gamers. The oled touch screen has impeccable picture quality. The performance is phenomenal. The only additions needed: 32 GB of RAM (yes 32GB of DDR3L works) instead of 8. A SSD drive in place of the 500 GB hybrid drive. I would still give it five stars out of five because this machine is upgradeable and scalable by replacing drives and memory much too dismay of the numerous laptops that cannot change components anymore. The installed equiptment gets you into the game for a great price. The demanding user can upgrade to their liking.

High Performance & Excellent Thermal Engineering

After 1 month with this product, I am totally satisfied. While it is no longer the state-of-the art, gaming performance is excellent and should remain so for the reasonable lifespan of a laptop. For reference, I have played Civilization 6, XCOM 2, and Fallout 4 on this machine. All run smooth and stable at high graphics settings. But, I am most impressed with the thermal characteristics. Naturally, it generates a lot of heat, but its spreads it out and dissipates it very well. My last gaming laptop had distinct hot-spots that made we worry about component failures in those areas. I know that the lack of a solid state drive while be off-putting to some. But, I use this for travel and the extra space for media is more than worth it to me. I prefer the smaller overall size for the same reason.

Was shopping for a replacement of my 7 year old laptop. This was an open box/return that just happened to be in the store. What a deal for half price! Upgradable too. Screen is so clear & bright. I wasn't looking for a gaming laptop but for the price had to have it.

    DONT BUY THIS LAPTOP!!

Once I can chalk up to bad luck but twice and I know it's the laptop. I first bought this laptop last year around August and it immediately stopped working after 2 weeks. The screen wouldn't turn on and even when I plugged it in the lights would show on the charger but that computer wasn't having it. It was essentially dead as an expensive brick. Thankfully, I had Geek squad and I bring it in but nothing they can do so I get a whole new one, should have heeded the signs. The new one I have now lasts longer and I feel like I'm in the clear, now it's 2017 in April and I receive a message stating the battery has suffered permanent damage and needs a replacement. I am in shock, I've only had this thing for 9 months and out of the blue the battery dies on me? I've never experienced this much of an issue with a laptop before and this version seems to be filled with all sort of issues and built poorly if this happens not once but twice. Please, save yourself the hassle and the stress. If this review does anything I would hope it warns others to STAY AWAY from this machine. Dell/Alienware needs to recall this version because reading other reviews this hasn't only happened to me. I use this thing for work only and this thing somehow burns out on me when it's supposed to be this super powerful gaming machine. It isn't. So I'll be out of a laptop for work while they ship it to "hopefully" replace the battery. I'd rather just get a different laptop all together.

If you love gaming and you love PCs, but hey fiddling with your PC so you can continue gaming; this is your rig! My experience with this comouter so far has gone as follows: 1. Open box, turn on. 2. Type in microsoft account, swap McAffee for Webeoot. 3. Game. Unlike every other new age computer I have purchased in recent years, I have not struggled to find drivers, concede to constant disruptive updates from manufacturer hidden apps (Only windows updates which is good). Basically the computer just works. Alienware has idiot proofed all basic upkeep, overclocking, and gaming optimization. The screen is beautiful. The programmable backlighting is boss! The wireless card made me aware of a wireless bottleneck I never knew I had. I would definately reccomend this.

I was trying to replace my desktop gaming rig with this laptop. I know that doesn't usually work out well. And for my wants and needs the cost spent on this laptop was better used after returning it to build a new PC. This is a good laptop - no doubt in my mind. It is not a desktop replacement if you want to run higher resolutions while gaming.

This is a great performing laptop, with an absolutely stellar display. Swap the hard drive out for an SSD for blazing performance. The 9-Series Nvidia discreet chip is a quite accomplished performer for all but the newest games, and the better than FHD resolution gives a nice balance between performancw and usable area.

    SPECTACULAR...PIECE OF JUNK

So...I purchased this Alienware laptop for my daughter for Christmas...she wanted to switch to a Windows 10 platform from her current MacBook with Retina display. The specs seemed great, especially the bright OLED display and multicolored keyboard...all things that caught my daughters attention. I bought it, put it under the Christmas tree and come Christmas Day, its unwrapped, unpacked and put to use...my daughter is full of joy and happiness..."you're the best daddy ever!" I'm thrilled that she's happy....then then next day she goes to turn it on...it doesn't power up. We tried everything, it just wouldn't come on. I have an IT degree and work on computers daily so I'm no idiot when it comes to computers. So I go back to Best Buy and ask to exchange it for another one. It wasn't available but I was told that it would be available in 3 or 4 days. No problem, my daughter wanted this particular computer so I was intent on getting it for her. A few days later I get an email from Best Buy that the computer has arrived and I can come pick it up. I immediately head over to pick it up and tell my daughter that it came in. At this point it was like Christmas all over again...unboxed, unpacked, the aroma of that new computer smell...all is good. Expect that this replacement computer lasted about 2 hours less than the first one. I was at work when I received the news...."daddy, my computer doesn't work again"...I thought it was a joke. But sadly, it wasn't. This overpriced Alienware laptop is about as well built as a dollar store light bulb on the scratch and dent aisle....needless to say, we picked a DIFFERENT laptop...that was HALF the price, at it's been 100% trouble free...STAY AWAY FROM THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!! Best Buy was great though in handling the return.

The OLED touch screen was bright and clear while the battery life was about only 4 hours max. Dell System Detect is quite good and has good features. It helps to find all the drivers and software for the computer, and the Operating System Recovery Image that is very helpful for a clean installation of the OS.

Best screen and "Mobile" gaming laptop

The keyword is "mobile", there are better choices for performance vs battery life (mobile); but this AW13 R2 does very well to balance both. I like to carry my laptop everywhere I go, so battery life is important to me (this has duo core 15w, most gaming laptops have quad core 45w). The tasks I usually conduct are media, internet usage, and some development on it. And it seems to be handling it pretty well. And the OLED display is the best display I have seen on a laptop, I do not think I can go back to anything else. (e.g. I know people grip about burn ins and etc, but we will have to wait and see if that happens over time)

I think this is an awesome gaming laptop. However, I purchased it as a Christmas present and after less than a month of use, it seems to have died. The Geek at the Geek Squad was great and I am now waiting for it to get fixed. Obviously reliability seems to be an issue......

Well it was awesome at first. It was on sale because of open box. However it was mislabeled what I thought I was getting was the newest and greatest one with higher graphics. Anyways this laptop it suppose to be the best of the best game ware. Really did like it at first. However only one day of gaming and the screen went black and no response from the computer. Returned to best buy and found out the motherboard went bad. So I wouldn't even give this a star. However Best Buy team was very awesome on helping me .
