When I first started using the computer the system automatically saved everything to C Drive which maxes out the storage and made the computer unusable. I had to factory reset the computer and change the setting to D drive. Now it works fine but couldn't understand why they set it they way to begin with. It works good for gaming and the graphics are excellent but it sometimes freezes on simple internet searches. I love the sleek look and face recognition feature but overall performance could use some tweeks.

I had an Alienware 17 R1 and it was an amazing machine used it for video editing and it worked great. Decided to upgrade to this machine and the performance is amazing so far I have only run into 3 issues... battery life isn't so hot (about 2 hours under normal use much less when editing) so you are almost always plugged in... 2 they had 4 USB plugs on the older model and this one was downgraded to 2... and lastly they got rid of the SD card reader which is probably my biggest disappointment.

I bought this laptop for gaming on the go. I have a pretty good PC at home and I wanted something that would have similar specs while on the go. This laptop definitely did not disappoint. It plays most games at full graphics without a hiccup.

This thing is a powerhouse. It’s hefty and will require some space, but is worth the performance. The only issue with these is cooling, as mine started having thermal issues and had a fan start giving out after the warranty expired. I’d recommend a repaste and some new thermal pads as soon as you can, but that shouldn’t be expected from the consumer.

So far this has been the best laptop I have owned. My biggest complaint is the shipping process. It was an absolute nightmare. Unfortunately Best Buy doesn’t have any way for you to leave feedback on shipping issues. UPS gave us so much trouble it almost was not worth it.UPS lied about a package being undeliverable and made us take another day off of work just so we could sign for it. I would have preferred the ability to ship it directly to the store even if it was an open box item.

it is a good laptop for gaming and research experiments. Too heavy

Backlit keyboard works good in dim conditions. Display is very bright if need be. System is very fast, size is big and heavy. Its hard to find a laptop bag that will fit this beast.

When first acquired back in April 2018, this was a BEAST! It could only be topped by the super expensive GTX 1080 (and a faster version of the already good i7-7700HQ. Back when launched, it was sold for over $2200!!! Looking back at it, it's crazy to think of a machine like this could cost that much, but hey, we are 2 years into the future now, and you know what? This machine has held it's value! It's still sought after by enthusiasts who don't have the budget to go full blast into the newer RTX version ($2700) but still want to enjoy the Alienware brand. Now, 2 years later, we have better value options such as MSI and ASUS ROG which have improved - A LOT - in terms of general quality and perfomance. The power brick is MASSIVE (as it should be) but the overall size of this machine is almost at desktop-level. I don't see myself buying another Alien in the near future because they are so flashy and bulky, but of course you will enjoy it if you are into showing off :)

After doing a significant amount of online research, and in-store demos of the different screen capabilities, my son decided on this configuration as it appears to be one that will last him several years. He's extremely happy with the video display, and likes that he can make several forward-looking upgrades, as anticipated/required. He's taking this to college as his primary gaming AND computing device.

The 2k g-sync display is awesome games seems great and is really bright, keyboard is good and it's not bad at all but I think that at this price track pad coul be bigger and better (with Windows precision drivers) but the RGB in it is really something different and cool in my opinion, the only bad thing is the speakers, and by bad I mean badass play games without a headset is great you almost can't hear the noise of the fans that get a little high when you are playing, and it doesn't get too hot for the CPU it gets up to 167f(75c) and the gpu 149f(65c), I really like it fantastic laptop, it's heave, you can take it anywhere you want as long as you are not expecting walk too much carrying it around

I bought an Alienware 17 R4 in June of 2017 from Bestbuy. About one month ago my computer began to make weird fan noises. Last week the computer would not stay on unplugged. I took the computer to Geeksquad and was told I must wait 3 weeks for it to be repaired. It is truly dissatisfying knowing that I have to wait 3 weeks for a $2000 computer to be repaired thats not even seven months old. If best buy/geeksquad truly cared about their customers, they would replace the entire unit. Horribly dissastified with Best Buy.

This is a beast. All the bells and whistles you need in a computer. This is not a laptop, in that you will not be able to keep it on your lap for too long for obvious reasons ( hot and heavy). Yes it will emit heat and is heavy. This is a portable PC more than a laptop. But, in the end this is an amazing computer

Excellent viewing and performance. It really is a desktop replacement. Quite powerful and fast. I heard and read of some who complain about its weight. Not me. I carrying mine everywhere I travel. I love that solid build and feel.

I AM thoroughly impressed with the Alienware 17 I recently purchased. I only wish I could find some accessories for it like a carry bag and cooling station for my lap. The machine is quiet and very efficient and extremely powerful and I know it will serve me very well for years to come.

This computer is so good. As soon as I bought this computer, my hair grew back, my kids like me, and my wife came back. This Alienware has changed my life!!!

I have always been skeptical of a gaming laptop especially since I have a stout PC but this laptop is beautiful. Great performance, plays all my games on high and gives me every detail I could ever ask for. I can’t go wrong with Alienware.

The laptop runs amazingly and plays all games on ultra, but 3 weeks in and the cpu fried during a bios update. Luckily I have a warranty, I highly recommend getting a warranty for this!

I’ve had my faults with the laptop, from trying to fit it into a bag to a few software malfunctions, but most of the time it runs perfectly. The quality far outweighs the minimal cons.
