Customers are delighted by the M17 17.3" Gaming Laptop's impressive performance, stylish design, and lightweight build. Many appreciate its fast SSD and large screen size, ideal for gaming and everyday use. However, some users note that battery life could be improved, and the laptop may generate noticeable heat and fan noise during intensive use. While some found the speakers underwhelming, the overall positive feedback highlights its strengths as a powerful and portable gaming machine.

    Awesome Gaming Laptop

We've had this laptop going on a year, and my son loves it. For the price, nothing beats it. The processor easily handles the most graphics-intensive games. The picture has near 3D clarity, with no lag. Steam, Cyber Punk, Mojang, you name it. Everything is loaded without a hint of process degradation. I just asked my son if it needs a better processor, more Ram Memory or graphics card, and he said, "nope, it pretty much works as good as the day we brought it home, dad". One cool aspect is the facial recognition in that, when the screen is dark if you look at it, it illuminates and starts up. My son said he has to close the screen because if he rolls over, the lap top starts up, LOL. In other words, "it watches me, dad." LOL. In summary, a great purchase.

I went in to get a new laptop, hoping to get a gaming laptop if possible. I walked away with this, practically on cloud 9! It's so awesome. The graphics are superb, the speed is fantastic, and the keys don't stick! I'm so pleased!

I found this laptop as discontinued & open box for a staggering discount. I couldn't get half the specs at the price. Love the 144hz screen and SSD with room to upgrade!

This review is for the M17 R2 - Intel i7, RTX 2070 max-q, 512gb, 144hz display. SO-- I bought this laptop hoping for the best and expecting the worst. I've read the forums on Reddit, and other sites, that say Alienware laptops have thermal issues-- specifically these new m15/m17 R2 models. Originally purchased this laptop on 10/18 but had to return the first laptop I purchased because the charging port or the charging cable died and I could not charge the laptop. Best Buy took care of that with no issues! I am not a tech geek in the slightest but the Command Center app allows me to view certain results such as CPU and GPU temperatures and fan speeds. According to these features my CPU temps have not crested 85 degrees and the GPU has not passed 83 degrees. Games I have played are Gears 5 on Ultra average FPS using their benchmark feature was 85 FPS, I play Apex with over 100 FPS on the highest settings, and Borderlands 3 on Ultra but I don't know the FPS off the top of my head but it runs GREAT! Overall, besides the dead charging port/cable on the first laptop, my experience has been very pleasant. Hope this helps someone in the future.

This is a fantastic gaming computer, and it's just that, a gaming computer. Do not expect stellar battery life.. you are not going to get it and don't expect it to last three to four hours. I with that Dell would have chose something a bit more.. premium for the materials and overall build of the laptop. It feels, somewhat cheap. The trackpad a mushy feel to it, but the keyboard is great. Excellent travel and yes, it lights up. Yes, the memory is non-removable and non-up-gradable which.. sucks for it being a gaming computer but it is what is it. There are two M.2 drive bays, I upgraded my computer to a RAID 0 2TB (2 1TB sticks), the system boots in about 3 seconds and Windows is ready to go. The Alienware software is a bit clunky, I wish Dell would re-do the sofrware for the Alienware control center, it just looks outdated. The system does run hot, but again it's a gaming computer. Don't expect ultra portability for this machine, it's designed to run hot and use the Geforce chip inside for graphic intensive programs. Overall though it's a good buy with some short-comings

Works exceptionally well, smooth performance on even taxing games. Battery life for non-gaming is fantastic, but you need to be plugged in to play most games for more than an hour.

I ordered this laptop in store and had it shipped to my house. Everything was working perfectly, got everything updated, went to play a game and boom blue screen. Figured maybe I missed a driver? Double checked, restarted and another blue screen. System restore, still more random blue screens. I did run a graphics test and it failed multiple times. Returned it back to the store, got my new one the next day. Screen is awesome (its not Oled but still looks sharp) it runs everything ive thrown at it pretty well! I really do wish the ram was upgradeable, but it runs just fine for what I do. I love how much lighter it is also!

Unique features and power with odd limits

The laptop comes well packaged in a foam lined case with a handle. The documentation is fitted into the foam, but oddly there is no finger notch on the edge so you can get it out. You’ll need a knife or credit card to insert on the edge to pry them out, or you can dig into the foam with your finger like I did and wrinkle the paper. The styling is fresh with LED lighting accents providing a unique look. You can adjust the color easily via an app. No one will confuse this for a business or low/mid-range consumer laptop. The laptop feels like a premium product. The fit and finish are superb. The laptop has a non-slip finish to improve your grip. The keyboard is a comfortable size and has a good feel. Feedback is good for a laptop keyboard. There is also a number keypad. This has one of the better mouse pads I’ve used. With 3 USB 3.1 Type-A ports, Thunderbolt, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet jack, headphone mini-DIN, you’re not likely to suffer from port envy. The demands on graphics cards is always advancing. When the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card is not enough, there is Alienware's proprietary port for its Graphics Amplifier. This external expansion box will hold a standard desktop graphics card. At 5.8 pounds, this laptop weighs less than most, but it’s not the lightest. However, that bit of extra weight gives you a very sturdy and flex free laptop. The battery last about 4 hours with typical business app use or browsing, so you will need to pack the AC Adapter. The 180 Watt power adapter is large and heavy. If you are highly mobile, be sure to figure that into your carry load and choice of laptop case or backpack. The screen is vivid with silky smooth action largely due to the 144Hz refresh rate. Also aiding the smooth action is the latest 9th Generation 2.6 GHz i7, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and an SSD drive. This laptop performs very well. You can overclock the settings for even more performance. While this configuration is like other models in this price range, that 16GB of RAM is the all the RAM you will ever have You cannot add or replace modules to increase RAM. With other similarly priced laptops supporting 32GB and more, one wonders why this limitation? The Alienware Command Center utility could be better. Some items can be adjusted, but not others, how and where to go to adjust items is not intuitive. After saving some changes I later find they were not saved, or maybe how to save them is not clear. Surprisingly with all the advanced features, the Windows Hello feature does not work with this laptop’s camera. You will need to login using the keyboard. This new laptop only supports up the AC Wi-Fi standard, not the AX my router supports. Still plenty fast, but not the latest tech. I investigated changing the Wi-Fi card, but it appears there isn’t one, the Wi-Fi is built into the system board. The Tobii eye tracking bar built in along the bottom of the screen works surprisingly well. This is a new and unique hardware addition to a laptop. This is my first experience with Tobii and using it became very natural when playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The screen pans where your eyes track. Going to another PC without it becomes an adjustment and you miss it. The eye tracking bar is not just for game play. Power management is a great use. The screen dims when I look away but brightens right back when my eyes return to the screen. It was impossible to trick or sneak a peek without getting caught. Other uses are no doubt coming. I expect we will soon see it used as assistive technology for those with disabilities. I hope this technology becomes more common. This is a solid high-performance laptop with unique features not available elsewhere and with styling that sets it apart from others. Most people will be well served with its 16GB of RAM and should be very happy with it. But if you are a power user who needs more RAM or want to take advantage of faster Wi-Fi speeds in the future, you are out of luck here.

The look of an Alienware product is always impressive, and this laptop is no exception. I brought it home, hooked it up, and noticed right off the bat that the hinge of the laptop requires 2 hands, which I've always hated. It ran fairly loud for a laptop and since it's a gaming laptop, it runs fairly warm. Both of these qualities were expected. The screen is crisp and shows no latency. I should have researched more about docking since Alienware docking products are very expensive and I didn't feel like searching for other companies' products. I ended up trading this in for a desktop gaming PC.

Only reason I cancelled my order is because I got a better deal on Black Friday and they forgot to apply my birthday coupon which made everything difficult, otherwise it is a great laptop with good specs, very futuristic looking, might want to get an external hard drive though since it only comes with 512gbs ssd . A little on the pricey side but it is Alienware so it’s expected, if you lucky to get a deal during Black Friday or cyber Monday, then that’s the move

I might be in the "honeymoon" Phase, BUT I absolutely love my laptop so far! Looks great, performs amazing, and I can use it for school at the same time! Plays all my games well, keyboard is comfortable, and the screen is beautiful! It does get a little warm so I recommend placing the laptop on an actual table as opposed to your lap, or bed because I think that otherwise it might block the vents.
