    What a story!

This is what great movie making is about; taking a simple story and idea, combining it with great acting, resulting in a captivating result. Despite it being Robert Redford, it took only minutes to 'forget' that it was him; the story was simple, not complex, but totally captivating from the start to end, which left you guessing right up to the last minute... This will be timeless; it needs no complex dialog, no special effects, no hot women, no stupid unbelievable plots or stunts...its a story that could touch any of us, and one that touches on experiences, feelings and emotions we should all recognize. It's a shame that such a film was passed over by this seasons awards, but I can see why Mr Redford chose to do this, and he gave a masterful performance, so much so, it did not appear as such.

This film may not be for everyone, but I found it fascinating. There is practically no dialog, but I think there is little reason for complaint on that score, as it is a one character movie and the situation needs no explanation. Robert Redford is remarkable in conveying desperation and ingenuity. Definitely a film worth seeing if you want something different and thought provoking.

Overhyped, yet overlooked is what Id say about this film. It seems as though this movie was designed in a Cast Away style to be a performance showcase for a actor. The fact the actor is the older Robert Redford I think that that alone makes the film stand out on its own. Contrived conception aside you can't deny Redford's ability and talent. Still its a good hour and a half watch.

I really liked the movie! I love movies and have always liked Robert Redford. The photography is top notch and the sound is fantastic. For only having one person in the movie it kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole time, without explosions and car chases. The only complaint was I wanted to know more backstory. This movie is not for everyone but is a subtle character study.

In the defining performance of his later career, Robert Redford thrills in this captivating story about an ordinary man's fight to survive against the treacherous seas. Brilliantly directed by JC Chandor, this drama is presented in low-dialogue naturalism, and it's atmospheric thrills and dry humor make it one of the most memorable survival films to date.

A truly unique kind of film experience with only one character and little dialogue the film manages to remain compelling and interesting throughout. It is not for everyone but if you find the thought of a film lacking all kinds of needless talking your cup of tea then this is for you. Great for lovers of sailing also.

All Is Lost is a wonderful film centered around one man's journey being lost at sea on his small boat. Redford puts on a great performance with next to no dialogue. The script is said to have been 30 pages in length and shows the masterful use of cinematography to tell the store of this man's remorse and regret with his life.

    Good Man vs. Nature Movie

Robert Redford gives an authoritative performance, but since he's the only person in the movie, methinks whoever had played this role would have gotten raves. The film is intensely claustrophobic and exciting, and except for an ending that wants to have it both ways--does he or doesn't he?--it's a good, dramatic movie.

All the action takes place on the high seas. No dialog. Interesting presentation. I found myself providing my own dialog to support the movie. Funny. It was a little hard, since I have absolutely no knowledge of sailing, to understand some of the decisions he made. Overall, an intense movie. Kept my attention.

Great story telling made me feel like I was travelling with this guy. Robert Redford did a great job conveying what it must have felt like to be in those situations. I have a friend who sails by himself for long periods of time - so I hope he's watched this. I was thinking about him the whole time.

ALL IS LOST is a really good movie about an older man (Robert Redford) on a trip in his boat by himself in the middle of the ocean. Suddenly the boat is hit by a large shipping container and it punctures throughj the boat, causing a large hole. Redford needs to plug up the hole so his boat doesnt sink... and after that it's just one thing after another happening to this poor guy basically trapped in the middle of the ocean on a broken boat amidst bad storms and other perils. The movie keeps you watching and is highly enjoyable. Also, there are some great bonus features that show how a lot of the effects were achieved. A lot of water stunts went in to making this great film.

All Is Lost is the first movie ever that features only one actor throughout the entire film. Redford is only supported by his boat and the raging seas. Excellent direction, cinematography and editing. Crips high def picture.

This is a great demo disc for your surround sound. Experience through Robert Redford what it's like to be stranded at sea. Limited dialogue, one character but a riveting watch. Only a small selection of extras on the disc.

Although belonging to the classic survival story group, the film elevates itself well above the average level, for its original, brilliantly used cinematography and for the passionate Redford's performance.

This was one of my favorite films of 2013. It is a true "motion picture" since there is hardly any dialogue and the story is conveyed solely through imagery and Redford's subtle, inspired performance. Because of the sparse dialogue, the sound design and music play a huge part in the emotional resonance of the story and both are handle with great expertise. The theme is one of survival and the limits that humans can push themselves to, and beyond. If you enjoy contemplative films, with beautiful imagery, you will most likely love this movie regardless of whether you are into sailing or not.

Who needs special effects and shoot'em-ups when nature can provide the action and suspense. Redford, at his advanced age, is still at his acting peak. Wonderful movie despite the limited cast.

In this movie you need to study Redford's acting ability when he is the only actor and has almost no dialog. You become mesmerized by him. This movie show's what it is to be an actor!

Being an offshore sailor I was rather critical of a number of inaccuracies about emergency preparedness. They should have had a sailor's input. But, overall a good watch.

ALL IS LOST is a thrilling survival story starring Robert Redford. Alone in the middle of the ocean after his ship is damaged, the only way he can survive--and be rescued--is by keeping calm and smartly using his supplies on hand. This Blu-ray edition shows off the movie very well, and the extra features go into great detail about how the film was made. My only complaint is that only a BD disc was offered, instead of the BD/DVD combo that's standard nowadays.
