Great head unit for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as an upgrade to the previous year model (CDE-133BT), mostly because I was able to sell my older model for what I paid for it and make a few bucks installing it for the friend that bought it. Just like the 133, the 143 has great audio quality and strong sound output. It also connects to iDevices over Bluetooth and USB, and connects to Android devices over USB. It also plays music files from burned CDs, flash drives, memory cards (with a reader), and externally-powered hard drives; I just wouldn't recommend doing this as file navigation is cumbersome. On iOS connectivity - I've found that all phone and Siri functions work fine. I've also found that audio playback from media apps (Music, Videos, Podcasts, Pandora, VLC, etc), games, and other apps with sound and music works great, but you cannot pause or skip tracks from the head unit's controls (AVRCP controls). This isn't as big of problem if you don't have steering wheel controls since playback controls on the device itself are easier to use, but I can understand why some people would be upset about this not working if they did have steering wheel controls; I've also found this to be an issue with other bluetooth-enabled head units from Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, and even with factory audio systems in Chrysler, VW, Ford, GM, and Toyota manufactured vehicles. I believe this stems from how Bluetooth in iOS works, where all functions pass through the OS before being fed to the app (like with headphone controls). On Android connectivity - I've found that phone functionality works fine with both VoiP and cellular dialers, for the most part - some dialers don't like bluetooth at times. I've also found that audio apps are really finicky at best and just don't work at worst, and it's not just this radio. Audio will only work from one app, and that app needs to be playing audio continuously as the bluetooth connects between the device and the radio. This happens with Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Kit Kat, and with different brands of devices (Samsung, LG, Motorola, Kyocera, Pantech). Unfortunately, the best fix is to disable A2DP between the device and the radio, and instead use an aux cable. Again though, that holds true for a host of car audio systems, both OEM and aftermarket. All in all, this is a pretty good head unit. It's not too distracting at night, even with dimming disabled. It's loud. It's bass-heavy when it want it to be, even with factory speakers. It looks good. The Bluetooth connectivity works great for calls, and so-so for A2DP (better for iOS than Android).

great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought mine back November 2013. Love this radio because it has features galore. You think you've figured out everything on it and then there's more to learn to love about it. And, yes, it does have a clock. Only feature I wish it had is satellite capability, but that's in the model a step above this one. But that's the techy guy in me though. Still a great product.

Great upgrade to Bluetooth
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from an Alpine CDE-102 to this unit because I only use my iPhone as an audio source and got annoyed with having to connect/disconnect my phone. First, synching to Bluetooth wasn't clearly explained in the installation instructions, but I watched a YouTube review of this model and saw how to synch the phone. Both units use the same wiring harness so the swap was simple and quick. Once I had the unit up and running and sync'ed to my phone, I did some experimenting with the bass/midrange/treble settings and the pre-programmed EQ settings. LEARN HOW TO ADJUST THESE SETTINGS. I was going to buy new separates after installing this new Alpine, but after adjusting the EQ settings (I think Alpine finally got it right this time) for my speakers, I'm keeping my old Polk's; they have never sounded so good. I'm very impressed with the sound quality. Next, Bluetooth functionality: I had a thick cable on my old unit to connect and control my phone. With Bluetooth on the CDE-143 BT, changing tracks is at least twice as quick than when connected with the iPhone cable, I can access my contacts on the Alpine from my phone, and one of the things I love the most is when a call comes in, it shows the callers name on the Alpine. The call lags for about 2 seconds (don't know why) after pressing the answer button on the Alpine, but then I have a great hands free call- caller is heard from my speakers and I installed the mic on top of the steering column. The experience is impressive. I wish I had bought and installed this unit as soon as it came out. Overall impression: Great quality, great price, wonderful features.

INCREDIBLE SOUND
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can't say enough about the sound this very inexpensive Alpine stereo has. After reading all reviews I am extremely pleased with this purchase which was a bundle package of the Receiver, 2 Alpine Speakers and the free installation of both. I am happy to say that in a convertible the Bluetooth works perfectly with the top down.

Very Nice Stereo, Great Features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this stereo! It sounds great and has every feature I want. The only issue I have with it is that sometimes the bluetooth doesn't connect when I start the vehicle. It gets frustrating because I can't figure out why, but usually after a couple tries I get it to connect. If anyone has any suggestions please, feel free to comment.

If you like Bass, Do not buy it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price I was expecting a great sound. Well the sound is clear but there is no bass. I had a sub woofer and only get bass from the sub woofer which is annoying because i only get hard bass all the time THERE IS NOTHING IN BETWEEN, i feel like some songs are dead. it just doesn't sound right. And in order to make the sub woofer give some bass it have to be on mx1 setting regular setting will not trigger the sub woofer. And I had a dash-cam on my car which you can really listen to the different on the audio quality between this thing and the stock radio. Many times the Bluetooth fail to pair and i need to press the source button like 6 times to get it connected again. My original radio sounds amazing but it doesn't work when the temperature go below 40*f so i decide to replaced by this unit which has so many good reviews. It was a huge mistake. Hopefully alpine will give me a solution on this. Also the volume does not increase at a slow pace, usually 10 is to loud and 9 is too low. its really annoying. Some songs the singer sounds like is hidden behind a wall you can listen to the instruments well but the singer is very far away. Hopefully alpine will give me a solution on this. The stock radio on my mothers 99 camry has more bass coming from the speaker than this. Resuming I just like to have some mid bass coming from all my speakers which complement the Bass produced by the sub woofer. like my old radio use to do. I don't enjoy the music in the car anymore. I rather listen to the exhaust note.

no streaming other than music app and phone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This may be a very good receiver. It does sound very good. However, when the system is paired with your android phone it automatically plays your music whether you want it to or not. That is very annoying. It also does not stream anything other than the media from the music app or from the phone. There is no sound from pandora, googlemaps, beyondpod, anything. there is sound when you connect the device through the aux port but that does defeat the purpose of having a bluetooth headset doesn't it? It also has to be re-paired with the bluetooth unit frequently if not every time. I purchased this to take advantage of my navigator and to listen to my podcasts... It does not do any of those. It is going back.
