One of the best movies ever

A movie, like dance, music, painting etc is not necessary about telling the truth that you find it in the real life, its about how you tell the truth in idea to find the best way to impress the soul and mind of the people who watch and listen. It's nothing wrong to exaggerate or give it a less importance to an event just to pop up another one . It's the most entertaining movie ever .

This movie is finished in the way no movie is ever finished.
There are only a couple movies that I enjoy watching more than this movie, but that's only because they speak to me more directly and I can watch those almost in loop.
This movie raked in at the 1984 Academy Awards, but they actually awarded them properly that year.
This is an absolute must watch and must own. It is in no way a biography about Mozart, but it is a rare gem of a movie with some basis on his life.

Best made movie ever!

The other reviewer is correct that this is no documentary; it never claimed to be. That being said, this is the most brilliantly orchestrated movie I have ever seen!
Personally, I like the absurd twists this movie takes on Mozart's character. It just adds to the dynamics between Mozart and Salieri.
If you are looking for an intelligent and entertaining movie, buy this! If you are looking for a history lesson, read a book or watch a documentary on PBS or the History Channel.

I can see why some might think this movie boring. I fell asleep on it the first time I watched it, but once I got back into it, I wondered how I could fall asleep on it. (I must have been REALLY tired)
The whole story is just fantastic. F. Murray Abraham as Salieri is just mesmerizing in how obsessed he is with the music that Mozart is creating.
Tom Hulce is equally amazing as Mozart and all his zanyness...
I buy very few DVDs... This one I had to have.

Beautifully Shot, But Historically Inaccurate Film

Milos Foreman's Academy-Award winning movie about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) is a gorgeously filmed, but grossly inaccurate, portrayal of the greatest musician the world has ever known. F. Murray Abraham gives a solid performance as the man who may or may not have silenced the world's greatest musical genius. The inaccuracies are too many for me to list here, but if you're looking for a history lesson on Mozart (who is my favourite composer), this movie IS NOT it. The Director's Cut runs 3 hours and is rated R.

One of my favorite movies! I never tire of watching this, and seem to find something I missed in the prior viewing. Also, the music, provided by the Acadamy of St Martin in the Field, is outstanding! Got the Blu-ray version for Chriistmas to enjoy even more!

For those who love Mozart this is a must own. It's something we enjoy time and time again. Why not go ahead and add it to your library?

Kind of Boring...

‘Amadeus’ won several academy awards, and not to take anything away from one of the greatest composers to ever have lived, but unfortunately the movie was just inherently boring. I would only recommend this title to those who have previously seen, and enjoy it.

It's not a bluray, so I wasn't expecting that kind of clarity, but the transfer quality is grainy for a standard dvd. Also, about two thirds of the way into the movie, it stops playing after a chapter and takes you back to the disc menu screen. I searched the case for another dvd and couldn't find one, so after reading the dvd cover to see whether or not it was two dvd set (it didn't say), I turned the disc over and inserted it into the player. Viola! The thing is, the back of the dvd is completely blank with no writing or anything to indicate that you have to flip it over. Reminded me of a laser-disc. Anyway, this is a great movie. F. Murray Abraham is brilliant. It only cost $4.99 because if they could have made a cheaper copy, they would have.

The movie was not complete, so it ended abruptly. I couldn’t get my money back because I went over the 15-day purchase refund. I won’t buy movies (or other items) at Best Buy for a while!
