This was a gift for my 5 year old for Christmas, an upgrade from the 7th gen that I passed down to my 3yo. The glass has already broke 3 times. We had the seventh gen since my daughter was 1- that glass only broke once! It’s crazy cause you think the newer products are better quality but I’m finding out the hard way that’s not always true. Thank God for apple care! Had I known the glass was *weaker and I would have gotten the brand new 10th gen after spending more money to repair this 9th gen iPad.

What I Don’t Like: • A Bit Chunky: The black borders (bezels) around the screen are kind of big compared to newer iPads. • Storage Could Be Bigger: The 64GB version can feel small if you download a lot of stuff. It’s not super fancy, but it does everything I need it to do without breaking the bank.

Perfect tablet for my 63 year old mother. She had Samsung tablet that was only $50 cheaper in the past that was so laggy and just physically way too heavy that it caused constant frustration. Them an amazing Fire Tablet 10 to replace that because Samsung stopped security updates way too soon back then but it was so much worse. Fire OS is a dumpster fire and the table itself was doomed to be awful because it had almost no RAM. Using Amazon own apps didn’t even work well I mean, how are you going to sell a tablet that you can’t even use Audible on properly when you’re making both of those products. For the iPad is snappy she has taken to using iPadOS a lot more intuitively than either of the other ones and very rarely, though I have to go and be “tech support” and fix something. I just simply have to tell her the way to do something on iPadOS and then that’s that. I’m glad that she got the last model with a home button too. Of course we all know that I’ve had something gold standard of tablets, but just wanted to share our experience with this particular model. I have had an iPad Air 4 and currently have an M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. They are fantastic devices more powerful than you can ever begin to make full use of, but that also means this table will run smoothly as long as Apple supports it with software update, which has always been years longer than Android OEM’s. I haven’t doubt that she won’t continue to use this tablet for at least five years even if it’s a little bit older model I still highly highly recommend it for the right situation or individual.

So I upgraded from my 7th gen iPad, which externally is the exact same, with the only major differences that the 9th gen has 64GB of storage on the base model (instead of 32GB), a far improved frontal camera (with Center Stage support), the A13 SoC from the iPhone 11 (the 7th gen has the A10 from the iPhone 7), and 18W charging (as opposed to only 12W on the 7th gen). My accessories still carried over (including my Apple pencil, keyboard, and case) which was great, and even though I haven't really taken advantage of the better camera, the improved performance certainly helps with multitasking. If you do get this on a sale, I would say it's a far better value than the iPad 10th gen, especially if you don't need USB-C. It's only 1 CPU generation behind, it still has a headphone jack, and it's far cheaper.
