Flawless for what I use it for

I bought this cable as my hard drive in my Mac Mini couldn't boot, and I needed a way to copy my data off the drive before I replaced it. So I bought this, plugged one end into my Mac Mini, plugged the other end into my Retina MacBook Pro, booted the Mini in Target Disk Mode (basically just push and hold T while booting and the computer becomes an external drive over Thunderbolt). Not only did it work perfectly, but it was faster than I believed possible. I managed to copy 1.8TB (movies, music, pictures, etc) in less than an hour. While I bought this specifically for the aforementioned purpose of recovering data, it now is a permanent part of my desk. I highly recommend this cable to anyone with a Mac, as it can be used for so many more things than just data transfer. It functions as an ethernet cable, data transfer cable, video cable (DisplayPort backwards compatible), and can even be used by a MacBook to use an iMac as a monitor. (Not exactly the best use, since if you have an iMac you probably use it as much more than a monitor, but still an interesting feature to have) Overall, I highly recommend the Apple Thunderbolt Cable. It's a strong (pronounced indestructible by vacuums, animals, and small children), blazing fast, and cool looking piece of technology that I am happy to own. If you are stuck between the two sizes or colors, spend a few extra dollars and get the black 2 Meter cable (6.6 Feet). Especially if you plan on connecting a MacBook with a desktop Mac, otherwise you basically have to sit the MacBook on top of the other Mac which looks both idiotic and defeats the purpose of portability. Tested with a 2014 Retina MacBook Pro, 2012 Mac Mini, and 2015 Retina 5K iMac.

    Solid Cable Despite the Price

The cable is strong, and after several weeks of consistent usage (in a Macbook Pro to iMac setup), it is still working great. If bending is avoided and the cable is handled with care, it should last a fairly long time. The length is also good. A cable like this is useful for iMacs, Macbook Pros, Thunderbolt Displays, 1440p displays, 4k displays, and daisy-chaining thunderbolt-compatible displays (such as the LG 34UC97). Overall, the Thunderbolt cable is a solid cable despite it being a bit pricey for a single cable.

I'm sure you noticed that Thunderbolt cables are expensive, well I got a good deal here and jumped on it. Normally the Thunderbolt cable that comes with your device is only a couple of feet long, pretty short, especially for my needs, this 6.5ft was perfect for me and being able to get it in black is what sealed the deal. I have two Thunderbolt drives and now I can tell at a glance which one is which.

Must have to transfer fast macbook to imac

Super fast transfer rate, nice long cord allowed me to have a clear workspace while transferring data. Much faster than trying to do things wifi, I'd say this simplifies the whole data transfer process. When my macbook was getting too bogged down with the programs I needed for work, I ended up getting an iMac and used this cord to quickly get things moved over to the desktop. Did it's job perfectly.

    Best Migration Cable

In my office there are many new Macs (iMacs, Macbooks, iPads). Trouble is everyone wants to move their old stuff to the new machine, but no one has a cable. Fastest one to use is a straight Thunderbolt cable. Just connect old and new machines (Mac or PC) and use the Apple Migration Assistant located in the Utilities Folder (inside the Applications Folder). Depending on how much there is to migrate it can take 30 minutes to several hours. Make sure the new machine has an equal or larger hard drive size as the old one. The cost of this at Best Buy is reasonable. Highly recommended.

This item does exactly what it advertises. With this cord I can connect a laptop computer and imac computer and simultaneously work on projects with two different screens. This is much easier than switching back and forward on screens and I don't have to remember to manually transfer the data to my laptop when I am done working.

Thunderbolt should be calling lightning bolt

This cable is incredibly fast, the WiFi connection using 802.11AC was estimating that it would take over 20 hours to transfer 600gb, got the thunderbolt cable the next morning as when it ran over night, it was still estimating 12 hours remaining in the morning, I stopped the transfer and started over with the thunderbolt cable and it took less than 2 hours to complete and it was a super simple set up for super fast transfer. Thunder is a sound wave and sound travels very slow, especially compared to light, this cable is blazing fast, you see the lightning flash sometimes seconds before you hear the thunder because light travels so fast and thunder is slow, this cable is not slow it is faster than when I transfer files at work over gigabit connections. The only drawback is that the cable is a bit pricey but it was worth the $$$ for the speed, Apple products aren't cheap for anything so I knew I what I was getting into when I got an apple to start with.

We use some just-now-legacy hardware at my work, which requires thunderbolt cables for our I/O Video consoles. These are great cables, just pretty upset that Apple is producing so few, and moving on to other adapters and dongles and formats so soon.

Here's the deal, if you have a Thunderbolt port and an accessory worth the money lightning cables are the way to go. What's great about these cables is that it sends data up stream and down stream, at a much much much higher speed than USB types. This is great if your an individual perfuming multiple back-ups or own a display with thunderbolt ports ( Apple and Lg, are two examples of manufactures who make displays with thunderbolt connections.) Many accessories allow you to daisy chain through the use of Thunderbolt. This is convent for multiple reasons. Some examples would be for cable management, and saving ports on your Mac or PC. That's rite, Thunderbolt is a product developed by intel. If you dig hard enough you can also find them on some PCs, such as Asus or Lenovo. I like this Apple thunderbolt wire so far. They come in two different colors, wight or black, making it easier to hide and blend in with your set up. I'm currently running this cable to support my video and downstream USB port data from a LG 34UM94-P Ultrawide monitor to my Mac Pro. It is a quality cable, with a long life span. I would recommend this if you have a Thunderbolt port available on your Mac or PC.

Recently I purchased a Mac Mini and wanted to sync my MacBook Air to it...this cord made the transfer of information zoom by. Originally, I was attempting to do this using my home WiFi and it said the entire process would take 30+ hours. Needless to say, I wasn't waiting that long for the syncing, so I ran to Best Buy and purchased this cable and the transfer was done in less than 2 hours! Well worth the additional expense!
