I simply love it!

I was considering long and hard the differences between this generation iPad and the new ipad. After reading several reviews of both, comparing the screens side by side and setting a list of uses i would have for it, as well as my budget, I finally settled for this one and i couldn't be happier!
It has plenty of space for my needs, it's pretty fast, the screen is big enough to work on, navigate the web, read email, watch movies on hulu, netflix, crackle, etc. the battery lasts a really long time, so i can spend several hours before needing to charge it again. It literally replaced my laptop for most stuff, specially portability! What i don't need, i simply throw back to my PC, or delete on the spot.
I use it mostly inside my wifi, but the 3g and gps features on this model are something i definitely need while traveling, which is part of the reaon i got it instead of just the wifi model. The camera is nice to have, i use it for facetime, but it is definitely NOT my primary camera for video or photos. The built in speaker is good, but I use my headphones or external speakers, more often.
The retina display on the new ipad may be great, but i think i'll wait for the 4th Gen. before upgrading from this one. I use it to study, work, games and general research or entertainment. It is simply awesome, not to mention the responsiveness of the touch screen, and its ease of use! I have an android tablet as well for development, and it just doesn't compare! Android are good for the money, and the OS may allow you to play around with it a bit more, but this is far far superior for all uses I have for it.
One thing to know, on some PCs you may need a USB Y-cable (one plugs for power, the other for power AND data), otherwise when you connect it directly, it may say "not charging". On Newer Macs that isn't necessarily an issue.

Now, of course, this model is old but it was/is a great product as you would expect from Apple.

At first I thought of an iPad as just a big iPhone - which I already had. But my husband bought one for me as a present and I have to say, it won me over. It replaced my kindle as my e-reader, and the apps and internet are easier to see on it than on the iPhone, not to mention movies. Plus, when I turn the iPad to landscape, I can actually type on the screen keyboard as if I were really typing on a keyboard (maybe not the 70 wpm I'm used to, but not bad at all, though I should mention that I do have pretty small hands).
It's a little pricey, compared to other tablets and e-readers, but it's an Apple and Apple has the others beat in a lot of ways.
I have the 32 gig version which I recommend if you are going to put very many movies on it. I also have the 3G version which is great because you don't have to have a contract, but if you are going on vacation and want to have Internet, you can just add it for a couple of weeks, or a month.
And now that iOS 5 is out and you don't have to have a laptop to update the iPad, it's pretty near perfect. My main complaint? The flash thing. Apple needs to get over itself and let you play flash on the Internet, but you can always buy an app like Skyfire to allow you to open flash.

Easy to carry around, it does everything we want/need. The picture and screen quality is very good. The only issue we've had is that every once in a while the screen freezes like it's zoomed in, can't see the borders and some icons. We have to reset it (hold down the power button and the home button at the same time until the apple logo appears on screen) to get the screen back to normal. It was expensive......seems like it should be less, but other than that we're having a lot of fun with it.

My uses:
DOCUMENT READER: Excellent after purchasing 3rd party app GoodReader. Apple's file sharing does not allow transfer of folders. GoodReader gets around this by transferring ZIP files and unpacking them on the iPad.
APPLICATION PLATFORM: The applications Page, Keynote, Reunion are not as easy to use as those on Mac OS. But I am still getting used to the interface.
BOOK/MAGAZINE READER: A bit too heavy to hold for long periods of time. Have to rest it on something.
SHOWING OFF PHOTOS: Bigger screen makes it better than the iPhone, although resolution isn't as good. The photo app is AirPlay enabled.
PRESENTATIONS: Waiting for next o/s release (Oct 2011) which will include full screen mirroring through AirPlay.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
-- AT&T 3G is reasonably fast but my medium-speed DSL at home is faster.
-- I like the security/encryption options.
Wants:
1. Full screen mirroring for presentations (due in next o/s release in Oct 2011).
2. Common file area so the same file can be modified by multiple apps (still waiting).

Amazing piece of technology!

What can I say? The Apple Ipad2 is on very impressive piece of modern technology and a wonderful addition to my tech\geek lifestyle. ;)
Pros: Ease of Use and just about everything else!
Ease of use: Having the iPhone 4, navigating the OS is pretty much a seamless transition. Options are easy to manipulate, icons are self explanatory, and it's easy to see how the iPad has won the tablet war, hands down!
Overview: After mulling over countless iPad 2 vs HD/Pro release speculation threads, I finally decided to pull the trigger on a 32GB 3G Black IPad2 with a Military spec Survivor case today. Loving everything about this thing and honestly anyone on the fence like I was should just go for it. You'll have zero regrets after she syncs up, trust me!
This is my first IPad so comparisons can't be made to the Gen 1 model, but overall I'm extremely impressed with the overall design and functionality. Having an iPhone 4 makes navigating it pretty much a seamless transition.
Gripes: Well, the price is a little high, but as they always say...you get what you pay for. Other than that I don't really have any complaints. I'm in love with this silly little device. It's an amazing achievement in technology!
Ipad 2 HD/Pro/3.0 Holdouts: Honestly I debated long and hard about buying the Ipad2 so far into its cycle, but honestly all those concerns faded away the moment I synched her up and started using her.
I can see how better cameras and a higher resolution screen would be welcomed improvements, but honestly it's well worth the purchase. There will ALWAYS be something new and updated rendering current technology obsolete. That's just the nature of the beast.
So enjoy the thing for what it is and happy Ipad hunting!

Worth the wait! Helpful and portable tool.

I have been following the tablet development for the several months. I had decided on the iPad in early February but then heard Apple was going to release the iPad 2. It was worth the wait for the release and in line at the store. It works well with my laptop and ipod. I also can use it in the classroom with my lecture outlines, email and GPS on on the go. Like the portability of it, smaller than laptop and lighter, although it is not a laptop replacement for me. One criticism is if you have a large video or music library, you will need lots of space. I keep most of music library on my iPod touch and some video. I put minimal video and music on the iPad so I could use maximize the space for Apps and other things I need that my iPod can't easily handle, e.g., ebooks / kindle.

Love my iPad ... best purchase in years

I love my iPad 2. I have had it about six months. I got it the day that they came out back in March 2011. I absolutely love my iPad.
It is easy to use ... right out of the box. I am very familiar with the Apple OS as I have an iPhone and iPod touch.
Ironically, I do not use my iPad to do a bunch of reading (as a graduate student, reading for leisure was the last thing on my mind), but I do use it to read magazines, online newspapers, etc, I also love watching Netflix and HBO Go on it.
The feel of the iPad is great ... much better than the first generation.
I believe that the camera and video recorder leaves something to be desired, but I really do not use those functions that much.
Overall, extremely happy with my iPad.

Like the iPhone but wished it was bigger for all your non-phone related stuff? You'll love the iPad.
I kept on saying that my iPhone was sufficient and I couldn't justify the cost associated with an iPad. Well somehow I got passed that and broke down and bought a 32 gig AT&T iPad and I've been in love ever since. Sometimes I feel guilty that I don't use my phone as much anymore but oh well!
I have had the iPad for over a month and surf the web quite a bit and have only run into a very few situations that I could have used flash compatibility. For those instances, you can use an add-on browser and work around the lack of flash media support.
Battery life is good and it charges pretty quickly.
Negatives would be the smart cover not being on the other side but I know why it's not. When you are holding the iPad in your left hand if you are a right handed person, the smart cover flaps since you can't hold the device far enough over to prevent the cover from flapping. Yes you can turn the iPad upside down but then the home button is not in the spot you're uses to from years of being with an iPhone. Minor complaint but valid in my mind.
Other negative is that I wish the power plug and headset jack were on the same side because you have wires from both ends and in a confined space like a plane it gets cumbersome. Minor but still there!
Other than that, I am amazed on a daily basis and love this thing!
The 3G is the way to go because wifi is not everywhere and I travel a lot and like downloading stuff on the go and I use my 3G connectivity when no wifi is available. The plans are affordable and not required so you get it when you need it. Also, when I was researching my purchase I found out that the non- 3G units don't cone with a GPS chip so your functionality is reduced. Spend the little extra and get the 3G version for versatility alone it's worth it,,

I was skeptical about purchasing an iPad but after standing in line with my friend, who was purchasing one, I decided to go for it...And I'm glad I took the leap!!! When the first generation iPad came out, I thought it was just a big iPod..boy, was I wrong! This does so much more and the iPad 2 does more than the original iPad. I use it for personal and business use. The processor speed is fast and the resolution is great. I love having the ability to print from the device and multiple email accounts. Apple offers free iPad workshops, regardless where the device was purchased. After attending the workshop, I learned so much more. The iPad has the capability to multi-task between apps--GREAT! Buy this product, you won't be disappointed!!

I was one of the lucky ones to get it on launch day being in line 3 hours before. The iPad 2 is an excellent combinition of hardware and software. It is very fast on the processing end and the graphics are smooth. Being 33% thinner than the 1st generation one, it feels good in my hands. The wide variety of apps for the iPad make it a very good addition to my Laptop, though it cannot replace it due to its limitations. It is turning out to be a very good gaming console with the wide variety of games available, both free and paid.

Upgraded for faster speed and additional features. The 3G is great when no wi-fi available. I use it the first thing in the morning to check e-mails and the weather. The only draw back is no Flash. Have to use my computer to view some e-mails. Other than that, love it.

The iPad 2 is very light weight and easy to carry every where I go. I use it to check e-mail, work, read, Skype and play games. It is very intuitive to use which reduces the frustration level I felt with some of the other tablets I tried. Glad I finally bought this one.

Not impressed/Great toy

I bought for business but it really doesn't suit my needs well - the software app I use is too limited and I am told by the company because of apple limitations. 3G? Why is apple holding back? I chose IPAD2 for live internet. Paid $130 extra for 3G and while traveling form Oregon to CA - didn't have service for 2 hours. No flash and no explorer - This is more of a toy - too big to carry around in my purse - I bought two and returned one..trying to decide if a toy is worth it. I'm looking at 7in Androids & toggling for internet...

I LOVE the iPad 2! Although I don't use the camera so much, I use my iPhone, it's great to have for moments when my phone is not nearby. Also, for taking the snapshots of the screen you're on, it's a beneficial tool. I chose the 3G thinking it would come in handy when I'm without WiFi and I was right. It's been a lifesaver on many occasions.
The battery life is excellent and the display quality is very good. If they use the retina display on the next iPad, it will really be a must have.
I highly recommend this product. I've reached the point where I don't go anywhere without it.

This is a truly awesome gadget! It is not a computer. Having said that, I am in complete love with my IPad 2! There are about a million uses for it and can be suprisingly productive. Obviously, the only downside is the same one as always....no flash player! If you can accept that & don't expect it to be a full replacement for a computer, then this is one of the best pieces of tech out!! Honestly let's not even kid ourselves about other tablets, just get the pad if you are into "top of the line"....
