Well, after being a PC user for most of my life like many other of my fellow reviewers, I made the switch. To say that this macbook pro has surpassed my expectations would have to be an understatement. Speed? Amazing. Display? Spectacular. Aesthetics? SEXY! This thing is just about as beautiful as can be. If I had a girlfriend I would want her to be this sexy! The security that I feel while using it is also a plus since I do not feel like I am going to get a virus on every site that I peruse through. If you have any doubts, don't! Buy it and you will not be disappointed. I just wish that someone would let me know if it is compatible with an external hard drive!

Great Computer!

This being my first Mac, I was a bit nervous making the switch from Windows, but wow am I glad I did! Not that I hate windows or anything but OS X Lion blew me away. Its so easy to learn. Within a couple hours I was completely comfortable with it. And everything is so streamlined, all of the programs work so well together and are very well designed. The performance is great as well. I almost always have multiple programs running and I have yet to notice any slowing down. And the battery life is amazing! Apple says it will last 7 hours but I've had it last 8 or 9 before. I love that I can watch multiple movies one one battery charge. Now i don't have to look for outlets at the airport anymore! All that plus it looks amazing!
The price was a bit daunting, but I decided to take a chance and invest in a good computer. However for such a high price I would've expected a couple more things. First, a 320GB hard drive seems a bit small. I would've like to get at least 500GB. Second, I would like to have a blu ray drive, especially since much cheaper computers now have them. Those, however, are small things, and I am very happy with this little computer. If this computer lasts as long as they claim, it will be well worth the money. I would definitely recommend this computer to anyone who wants to invest in a great quality computer. I doubt you'll regret it.

First MAC, and it's definitely different

I've been using PCs for over 20 years and always wanted a MAC and finally decided since I needed a new laptop, the Macbook Pro was overall a better purchase than a cheaper PC model.
The build quality is better than anything from Dell, or Acer or any other manufacturer. It is very fast. It is surprisingly easy to upgrade the memory, I changed the base 4gb for 8gb and it has made a huge improvement when using programs like iMovie.
The webcam is very good as long as you have good lighting.
The screen has a great resolution for the size, but to make using it at home a lot better I picked up a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Very convenient, and it is so light and small carrying it to work is a breeze.
The integrated graphics aren't great at all. I've played Minecraft and Portal 2, both of which run decent, but the last gen model had an nVidia graphics card that is significantly faster than the newer Intel stuff.
If you are a long time Windows user like me you will have a lot of learning to do, and should really forget everything you know since almost everything is very different in OS X.
Also, the OS came with OS X 10.7 Lion, not 10.6 Snow Leopard, not sure why the specs say Snow Leopard.

Love my mac

This is my first Mac experience and it hasn't disappointed me. The machine is fast and does not make any noise. The battery lasts at least 6 hours, and I'm talking about continuously watching movies. The reason why I gave a four star for convenience is that it's rather heavy when you place it on your lap. I like to watch movies at night, and after holding it for a while, it gets hot and and heavy. But other than that, great laptop and worth it for the price.

I wasn't a believer of MACs until I purchased this Macbook pro to try out for a little while myself. I was the guy that criticized the MAC guys for making a steep investment into an over-rated, priced and proprietary product. However, I have to say Apple is passionate about what they do compared to their PC counterparts. I respected that and so I gave them a try. The Apple Corp does many things well, most of all, they take pride in designing quality products that their consumers will enjoy reliably for years to come. I am very happy with my Macbook, I was just giving the Macbook a trial out of curiosities' sake when I purchased it, now I'm quite confident I will not be looking towards PCs anytime soon or returning it. I have a quality built product with an extremely stable OS. Although Apple is proprietary, it gives them the ability to keep and control a stable platform the is compatible with all it's other counterparts/Apple products across the board. Apple must do this to keep the brand image looking good. As long as Apple love's what it does, this company will carry on it's legacy of success. I find it ironic that I've not heard a MAC owner complain about their systems yet. PCs, well we all have horror stories and experiences of our own without myself rambling on.
The battery life is phenomenal rated at 7 hours; however, I cant get 10+. Performance is great and there is up to 4x the performance of the previous 13" Macbook Pro when converting files. The system feels great and solid in the hands. All my applications I have running on my system are fluid, I have not had any crashes and freezes yet. It also runs multiple programs at once without hiccup; I wouldn't say it's perfect, but pretty close. If you are in the market for a MAC, I don't think you will be disappointed with the 13" Macbook Pro, give them a try. I was blind, but now I see.

Wonderful overhaul from the previous Core 2 ver.

As many know that Apple kept using the Core 2 class Intel processors in the 13" Macbook pro models up until the most recent release while the 15" and 17" models went onto the Core i class last year. This means it is a huge overhaul for the 13" line. The 2nd generation Intel Core i processors boosted the 13" mbp line with speeds up to 1.6x that of the previous generation with Intel Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost 2.0 technologies. But that is NOT the biggest overhaul part. The reason behind why Apple couldn't incorporate the Core i series in the 2010 13" line is mainly due to the graphics processor. Intel no longer allows Nvidia to make Northbridge chips to work with their processors beginning the Core i class processors. This meant Apple had to cramp 3 huge chips into the 13" Macbook Pro (Northbridge, Processor, GPU), it was simply not possible. Previously Nvidia combined the Northbridge and GPU into one chip for the Intel Core 2 systems. But NOW the 2nd generation Intel i series processor contains a combined graphics core that had enough power to meet the needs of "Pro" tasks on the 13" line. This allows Apple to install only 2 chips again, (Processor with GPU + Northbridge). Compared to the 15" and 17" line which always had a discrete graphics chip, this is a major design change. Simply put, the GPU moved from the Northbridge to the CPU in the 13" line.
The Graphics processing power of the new Intel HD Graphics 3000 in the 13" MPB is not magic, but it has WAY more power than the previous Intel Integrated Graphics solution. It exceeds Nvidia 320M in HD playback and desktop graphics including for design work (AutoCAD, Adobe CS etc.). But in gaming, it is slightly behind the 320M, but the 320M can't handle most games 2009-later on high anyways.
It still has a brilliantly vibrant screen, the resolution did not change, still 1280x800, but for a 13" screen, it is enough. Besides, if the resolution got higher, it will strain the CPU and GPU, causing the system to consume more power and run less smoothly on extensive applications.
Pricewise, it is a Macbook Pro, so compared to many other brands, it is on the higher end of the scale, but the 2011 13" release is well worth it.
The only one little drawback is that no one manufacturer offers a Thunderbolt drive so far, and it has been a while since the new line of MBP has been released. Or should it be considered as Apple planning for the future?

APPLE OVER PC ANYDAY!

After owning several PC's over time and then switching over to the Apple brand, I was not disappointed. The Macbook's design and performance is brilliant from start up to shut down. I needed something that would get me through my last semester of college and I by far wish I would have bought this my freshman year.

After owning every other Apple device, this is my first Apple computer. Bought for my 12 year old daughter, and it's everything I thought it would be. Boots fast, great graphics, fun programs (iMovie in particular), good Wifi pickup, pretty decent battery life (4 hours+) and great overall performance - came with free Lion upgrade download. Cost was $50 less than Apple store, and got with no sales tax on tax-free weekend. Appreciate the 18 months 0% interest, plus already got back $20 Best Buy Reward certificate. Apple prices are still on the high side compared to some top-of-the-line PC-based laptops, but still quite happy with this.

Ok, we all know Apple can be a little more pricey compared to other similar computers, so that is what the value for price is not full 5 stars. The screen is great, the performance is great. The app store is great. I like the lighted keyboard for low light situations, and the texture of the keys is good for typing. Overall I have really enjoyed this computer, I use it for personal use at home, school work for classes and for my day job to take notes and track to do items.
The calendar doesnt sync with outlook at my work, even though my iPhone does. wish they would figure that part out. Otherwise this is a fabulous machine.

I purchased this 13.3 inch MacBook Pro earlier today.. From what I can tell the Mac OS X is flawless.. It is lightning fast.. No trouble doing any tasks that I need it to do.. This laptop is excellent all the way from performance to the way it was packaged.. It was packaged with care.. I suggest buying a carrying case with it if you are going to purchase one.. Just to make sure you keep the aluminum body scratch free and in tip-top shape. Overall.. It's a great computer.. Little pricey.. However it is worth every penny. I have owned PC's my entire life and will never go back.. Mac is truly the best computer on the market..

I've been a mac user all my life but this is the first laptop I bought in a while. I initially went into the store with the intention of purchasing a lower cost HP laptop. Once I got into the store and looked at all my options it became clear that the mac was clearly the best quality machine. I ended up going with the mac because I decided a large purchase like this should be made on quality rather than price. The mac is definitely worth it's higher cost. Easy, user friendly set-up, super fast, great graphics, and great online support through apple.com. Very happy with this purchase!

This laptop is great, does everything I want plus more. If I didn't get an Apple MBP I would have look at the HP envy, but if I'm going to drop $1k on a computer, whats a couple hundred more the the best. All I really use my computer for is streaming movies, and live sporting games. I also love photography and this computer is the easiest to use for it. With all the options, shortcuts, and tricks, I will never look back.
If you want a product computer, this will work great too, I have the IWorks and it's just as good as the microsoft office software, if not better. I say better because you can save documents as word/excel documents. Can't do that with Microsoft.

I went from a PC to this and I absolutely love it. I received it as a birthday gift and I would definitely recommend it to others. I will never go back to being a PC user again. The style and layout is awesome, it is a bit on the expensive side but well worth it. It's not too heavy and I can take it anywhere I go. The battery life is great, I was able to transfer stuff from my old PC to this with ease. Don't waste you're time with another PC, just get a Mac!

I have been very pleased with the Mac purchase. A few things are difficult to change habits, and many if you dig there are work-around anyway.
The machine has awesome battery life and very fast to boot and to shutdown. I like the feel of the keyboard and the lighted feature is very handy.

Unlike most of the reviews I've read, I had no idea that the new upgrade was coming and I bought the 2010 version from my local Best Buy 15 days before the upgrade launched. Lucky for me the store was really so understanding! They exchanged last years model for the new one even though I didn't catch my mistake until I was past the 14 day return policy. The New new Macbook Pro is awesome. Even faster than the first one! This is my first Mac and so far, it's been a very easy transition. With a daughter that loves to get on Facebook and UTube, I am loving that viruses are less likely and the speed is excellent! Like everyone else, I'm a Mac lover for life!

I just purchased the Macbook Pro 2011 and I love it! The Macbook Pro is very user friendly. I love how fast everything is on the computer and how quiet it is. The laptop never feels warm and the display is just beautiful. I would have loved to have a bluray player installed but I'm sure that is in the near future. I will never go back to PC. I also adore the backlit keyboard, and the way the keyboard is designed. It's nice and spread out and all the keys aren't right on top of one another. Overall, this is the perfect laptop for all that I need.
