I purchased this in September of 2017 and in October of 2017 the screen cracked. I know this is my fault, but we all know that Apple products have a tendency to be sensitive and easy to break. There was a bobby pin in the hinge where you close the screen down to close the laptop and the screen cracked. I did not put a lot of force into closing it either. I feel for all the money I paid for this machine it should take less money to break the screen.

This laptop is perfect for college and editing video software.

I've used MacBooks for a little over a decade. This is the 4th I've owned, and my least favorite so far. What I love: I use my Pro primarily for photo processing. I love the retina display, reliability, processing power, and battery life. It's why I own a MacBook Pro. Specific to this version, I love that the speakers are now on right on top, and that the new charger does not use magnets. However, I don't want to give Apple a lot of credit for simply fixing their own bad designs. What I find annoying: This pro has two USB-C ports and a an aux port. That's it. No USB ports, no SD card, no DisplayPort or Thunderbolt Port. I thought I could live with it, but it's absolutely aggravating. I need a $30 adaptor to pull images off my SD card, another $30 adaptor to transfer them to my external hard drive, and once those two are plugged in, I'm out of ports. I can't even charge my computer while transferring images but that uses one of the USB-C ports. What I hate: The keyboard and trackpad. You use them for everything you do - and I hate them. The keys are difficult to press, too big, too flat, too close together - something. I can't tell you exactly what it is about them, but I hate them. And I hate the noise they make. Similarly, I hate the trackpad. I can't tell you what it is specifically about the Force Touch trackpad that makes me hate it so much, but I absolutely do hate it. At this point, I don't care if the machine is beautiful or powerful, it is almost too annoying to use, and that makes it fairly useless to me.

I want to start off by stating I teetered on returning this computer for days. It wasn't a bad performing machine, but I wasn't sure the value was there, and I say that as someone with 10 Apple devices attached to my id. I'm no stranger to the Apple tax, but I just didn't feel this computer was as deserving. Its also important to note that I purchased this laptop when it was on sale for $1049. Above this price and it gets even harder to justify. The truth is, however, what choice do you have if you want a MacBook these days? The MacBook Air is priced lower, but is an aged design dogged mostly by its pitiful screen. The MacBook pros with touch bars are wildly more expensive for their gimmick feature that has been a quantitative failure. These more expensive models also needle$$ly hold the extra ports and higher clock speeds hostage from the non Touch Bar models. I'm a touch typing software developer, I like having the row of physical function keys. There's also the 'Macbook' but its generally the same price for vastly less CPU power in exchange for high base storage space. I really considered that model but the 'Pro' was on sale at the time, 128GB is in my opinion ridiculous for a 'Pro' computer. I'm getting by on it, but this laptop is, for me, not my primary machine, I use it on the go, and then work mostly on an iMac at home. I dunno, its just not a great time for apple laptops at the moment. The USB-C revolution hasn't arrived yet. None of the iPhones can even connect to a MacBook without a separate cable purchase. The pricing seems high, even for Apple. The MacBook lineup is central in an unexpectedly, currently, disjointed ecosystem for Apple. I'm going to say 'Yes' to the recommend to a friend question, but the truth is it would seriously depend. I think most non-power users would be better served by the 'MacBook'. I think that the Air is past its time and the Touch Bar models are a gimmick, and if this is your only computer don't even bother with the 128GB model.

+ Great battery life (from apple in charge of hardware and software together) +Trackpad is of very generous size and very very buttery smooth +Unibody metal design, built like a tank +Super bright screen, good for outdoor use +/- Retina display; is nice, but realistically just a "marketing ploy"; 1920x1080 would've been fine, but this is just fine too, how close is your face to your laptop screen? - Keyboard has very low travel - Lowest spec only has 2 usb c ports - No more MagSafe 2 magnetic charger - Lowest spect for $1,300 only comes with 128gb; I can do with 128gb, but for this premium price at least 256gb. $200+ to upgrade from 128gb to 256gb is a greaaat deal Apple

Underpowered to overpriced ratio is of course always an issue with Apple. That being said the battery life is excellent and the overall look and weight to this unit is a plus. Major downfall is that it does heat up pretty quick. And also of course it would be nice to have more USB A,C, etc... ports. The thunderbolts are nice. But not practical.

I returned this and exchanged it for the MacBook Air. There was much about the 2017Pro which I loved-the sound is great, the speed is great, and so is the screen resolution. However, not having USB ports is a ridiculous inconvenience and means having to buy an extra dongle, and the worst, for me, is the touch of keyboard. It is entirely different from older models. The keys are very low profile, noisy, the spacing is slightly different so my fingers kept hitting the wrong keys. Then I read up on it and lots of people were complaining about endless repairs for their keyboards. Some people apparently love the new design, but after a week and a half I'd had it. The MacBook Air is a much better fit for me.

The design is beautiful but there is no Usb port which is annoying

The new MacBookPro is a different animal than the older version I used to have, but so was the price. The new one is light and thin, but needs adaptors to use older USB devices. It's fast, smaller, and has not crashed on me yet (in 6 months). The new keypad takes some time to get used to it.

I think this laptob is great, i bought it for its effectiveness with home studio, work, and pleasure use. The only thing i was really disappointed with was the removal of all usb, hdmi, sd card slots by apple. I cant even connect my apple phone or headphones to the laptop, now i need to buy an adapter for every apple product. Was extremely upset when i seen this, since i was unaware. Other than that, its a great laptob

Very good and fast but the fact that there is no usb sucks

Feels good in the hands, makes you want to use it longer. I wish it performed better, had more than 8gb ram. MAC OS seems a bit outdated to me. I wish Apple could fuse IOS functionality with OS capability, and allow all that on an iMac. I’m a creative and would love to use full versions of Adobe CC programs on an iPad.

The size and weight of the laptop is great, but I have to say that I dislike the keyboard and the single port. I had a few times where is takes a couple minutes loading opening a page.

Although I love love love love love loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed my experience switching over to a Mac for the first time..............my particular MacBook pro was defective from the start. The laptop gets supperrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hot to where I can’t place it on my lap because it actually burns if I’m not wearing think outerwear. The digital bar at the top of the keyboard is soooooo convenient when using different applications. Other defects are the icons (when thrown in trash) remain frozen to screen and will not let you see on on certain areas of screen unless you restart you laptop. I took me almost 7 months to submit to be repaired because geek squad said it would take 2 weeks. As a full time student and full time employee who is completely dependent on my laptop, I was not able to turn it in till today. Now it’s time to play the waiting game......... would recommend this product.........just cross your fingers that you don’t have any technical issues.

This laptop is good quality as it’s priced. It’s because it’s Apple the expectation is high performance. It’s pricey compared to other laptops. It is nothing special though compared to my other HP laptops which is touch screen and cheaper.

I loved this Mac but was not compatible with a program required for school. Sadly I had to return it. I am not looking for something similar in weight and how fast it. If apple made it a little more compatible I would have kept it and gave it 5 stars. For the price, I should not have compatibility issues. I have an Apple Watch and phone but their laptop is a whole other issues.

I was excited to get this product. Overall I’m happy w/it but will warn those that purchase this new MacBook that it doesn’t have a built in usb plug. You must purchase it separately.

I was advised that I'd be able to use the lower storage option because of my use of cloud services. This hasn't worked out as I had hoped and as explained to me by the Best Buy assistant. I'm a bit miffed about it but will have to change a few things as a workaround. Otherwise, the machine is slick and fits my requirements.

I very good it's pretty fast nothing mind blowing But the amount of Memory internally is a joke.. so either get a Portable SSD Samsung has a good one for 99$ 500gb or get ready to live in the cloud

I decided to go with a MacBook Pro when my $1300 HP spectre overheated and the motherboard was burnt. I have always heard great things about the Macs in terms of reliability, so I thought that I could get over my PC preference just for the sake of having something that would last 5+ years. It came (brand new, not open box) with a broken microphone and one of the Micro USB ports only works sometimes. Apple is supposed to be fixing it for free since its under warranty, but I’ve been waiting until the end of the semester to send it in.
