3rd one I had to buy for my MacBook. Small cable opens up easily, breaking it. Main power box stops converting power after about a year of use.

Just what you expect from Apple

This is exactly what I have come to expect from Apple: a great product, aesthetically appealing, user friendly, and over priced. When you are an Apple user though, you recognize that the products are worth over paying for because they are the best out there.

    It's just a power cord

The good news: 1) It successfully gets power from the wall to my MacBook Pro. 2) It's got a mechanism by which you can use the long cord or the shorter one. Nifty, but ultimately unnecessary. I've never had this for my PC laptop, and never felt the lack. 3) It has a magnetic connector to the computer so it's fairly easy to plug in and unplug. Nifty, but ultimately unnecessary. I've never had this for my PC laptop, either, and have never had any sort of difficulty plugging or unplugging that power cord. The bad news: 1) It costs WAY more than it should. I mean come on, it's a power cord. Why should it cost $70 (plus tax)? I could replace my PC laptop's power cord for less than $20. It doesn't have the nifty but ultimately unnecessary features I've enumerated above, but those features are unnecessary. If I could get power from the wall to my laptop and keep an extra fifty bucks, that would be my preferred option.

    Works great, until it doesn't

I love my mac pro, but the power cord seems to be the weak link. After three years, I'm on my third power cord, at eighty bucks a hit. I love the magnetic attachment. I am reassured that a careless passerby is less likely to pull the laptop off the table if they don't see the cord, as it will disconnect from it's magnetic socket. However, the cords are very thin, with a very thin protective coating, and mine have seemed susceptible: to pets, furniture, vaccuums, chair legs...resulting in small microtears which ultimately disrupt the integrity of the cord and necessitate their replacement within a year. Over time, the power becomes spotty, and the cord starts to overheat at the connection. At eighty bucks each, these seem like a lot of problems for a necessary component.

    It's a power adapter...

it charges and powers a MacBook. There isn't really too much to it. The unit comes with both a power cord and an adapter to make it more like a brick. The cord adds about 6 feet to the length that it can reach and makes it easier to plug into crowded surge protectors. The MagSafe connector saves your MacBook in case of a cord snag. All in all a great product! Got this because a pet used the one that came with my computer for a chew toy.

    Always Good Products

I'm always happy when I can come to bestbuy.com or even walk into a store and get original Apple products. You know they are going to work with your computer and it gives great confidence. This purchase was typical in that I ordered the AC adapter and got it and it worked! I have tried third party devices from other countries and they always fail. Thanks, Best Buy, for having what we need. Simple as that.

Get the real thing and save money in the long run

This is my 5th Magsafe Charger after 10.5 years with my MBP. The first being the original Apple charger that came with my 15" 2010 Macbook Pro. My second and third were knock-offs that lasted well considering they were less than $20. The most recent (and fourth) knock-off lasted 3 months. This means I spent about $50 on knock-offs when I likely could've just gotten a genuine Apple charger to replace the original to begin with. Knock-offs are hit or miss, but you save money getting the tried and true genuine one in the long run that lasts longer. Don't make the same mistake as me. If anything, you can save a couple dollars and could get an open box from Best Buy (like I did) and be sure that you're getting a genuine Apple product that's been tested to work. It's hard to trust third-party sites and even the smiley face online store because so many knock-offs are being sold as the real thing.

Better than the OG style magsafe adapter

    Posted .

So my wife and I lost our second MagSafe charger in a period of 4 years, this time due to my son figuring out that he could touch it to a metal part of my recliner and create sparks. Unfortunately, this killed the chip inside the charger that IDs it to the laptop as an 85 watt MagSafe charger, so we had to replace it. The older style shares a common design (flaw) with MagSafe 2, where the cord goes straight into the plug, The newer style has the cable running into the side of the plug. In my personal option, putting the cable off to the side made this connector about 1000x better than the original. The only downside is these adapters are so darn expensive. I know that some other OEM adapters are also quite expensive, but with Apple, you don't really have much of an alternative if you need a new adapter that night. Even considering the cost, however, I highly recommend that everyone using the older style MagSafe 1 chargers upgrade to the newer style if you can justify the cost.
