    Always a good idea to stick with Apple's original accessories for it's products. Yes it may be more expensive but it's worth it. Using other brands may work and be much cheaper but in the long run, you will be buying more and wasting more since they don't last very long.

    The cord's weakest area is directly under the ent that connects to the computer. The covering tears, and then the wires break and unravel, until the entire item is useless. I have replaced this item numerous times over the life of the MacBook. Because it is such an expensive item, I believe that it should be more durable.
