When my AirPods got working actually, one of them stopped working the other continue to work AppleCare replaced the set, but I think I had to pay a shipping charge. That’s been a while back.

You only need to bring it in. Kudos to Best Buy for being an authorized upper repair center.

Peace of mind, and we have had to use the AppleCare on a couple of the products we bought through Best Buy. Each time, it has been easy to use and the local Best Buy store helped us get the items to Apple for easy fix or replacement.
