Arlo Pro 5S 2K is Arlo's latest-generation product with a host of powerful features. It serves as a significant upgrade to the Arlo Pro series camera that I currently own. Arlo has consistently impressed me with its performance and the robust security features it offers. However, the only drawback is that to fully unlock its potential, you must subscribe to their service package; otherwise, it functions similarly to a standard camera, albeit with superior image and video resolution but lacking motion or activity alerting features. It comes with a 30-day trial period to access all the security features it offers and with my existing subscription, adding this to my existing set-up was a no-brainer! Installation: Setting up the Arlo Pro 5S 2K was a breeze, taking less than 5 minutes for my Arlo app to detect the camera. A notable feature of the Pro 5S 2K is that it can function as a standalone (without the need for Arlo base station) camera with dual-band Wi-Fi support (2.4G and 5G). The package includes a charging cable and an outdoor mount. Features: • This camera is both wireless and weatherproof. My four-year-old outdoor Arlo cameras have endured various weather conditions and are still going strong, making the new ones an excellent choice for outdoor use. • When evaluating outdoor cameras, the first three aspects I consider are video and image clarity, resolution, and field of view, and the Pro 5S excels in all of these categories. The images are sharper, even in low light, and I can zoom in up to 12X for enhanced detail on distant objects. With a 160-degree view, it's ideal for monitoring larger areas. • The night vision capabilities are outstanding, with color night vision and an integrated spotlight it captures crucial details in color during nighttime recording. With its 2K HDR resolution and 12X zoom, it provides more detailed images. • While I can't speak to the battery life yet, given my past experience with Arlo devices, it should last at least three months with minimal alerts. The Pro 5S also offers a "low power mode" setting to extend battery life when it drops below 10% - configurable to 20% and 30%. • In terms of security features, it offers a plethora of options to tailor to your needs, from simple phone alerts for motion detection to the ability to call a friend or activate a siren and emergency response team. These features require a subscription, but they are well worth the investment, especially for peace of mind during extended travels. Additionally, it features a microphone and supports two-way audio for outdoor conversations. • The app is user-friendly, feature-rich, and easy to navigate for configuring settings or reviewing alerts and feeds. • Phone notifications are impressively quick, typically arriving within seconds, which is a significant improvement compared to another brand I've used with reporting delays. Overall, Arlo cameras have consistently proven reliable in my experience, but the Arlo Pro 5S 2K brings even more features to the table, making it a worthwhile upgrade for my outdoor surveillance needs. I definitely recommend it for outdoor use, especially if you already have an existing Arlo setup and subscription, adding this camera for outdoor use is a no-brainer!

6 months ago i purchased these cmaers and one had a failed seal on the lense. Figured it would be easy, but after multiple days if being oassed around to different support members all asking thensame questions my warranty claim eas declined due to "water ingress and high humidity". My outdoor camera was being used outdoors, who would have thought? And they declined my warranty for this....

Purchase this 3 days ago from my Best buy. Camera was great I could connect without a hub to my Wi-Fi and everything worked great. App was a little wonky wouldn't let you scroll through videos you had to go out and then to the next video on Android. Was a little easier on iPhone where you could scroll. This morning received an error that the device was offline because of high temperature. At the time I received the error the temperature outside was 63°. I removed the camera and added it again and the same thing happened it kept recurring. Unfortunately I believe this was a defective unit and didn't want to go through the hassle of dealing with Arlo tech support so I just returned it to Best buy. Would have been great if it worked.

Set up and installation were a total breeze. The video quality and battery life are excellent despite some reviews saying it wasn’t so fantastic. I get many notifications when cameras are armed from my animals walking in the house and traffic on the street. Overall, a solid purchase to monitor my property.

Arlo Pro 5S 2K - Wireless indoor/outdoor security camera Quick Overview ================================= Arlo has been making cameras for years now and their focus has been wireless, battery-powered models that can be "placed anywhere". This new Arlo Pro 5S 2K is a new, high-resolution version that's safe inside or outside your home. Overall build ================================= If you've seen Arlo's other (and more recent models) this should be familiar. It's smooth, white and has a familiar "extruded oval" shape. The front face where the camera lens sits is black with openings for an LED spotlight and IR emitters for night vision. It comes with the camera, a mount, screws/drywall anchors, a battery, and a charging cable (indoor use only). Initial Setup ================================= Setup is easy and they'll want you to use the app (Arlo Secure) to do it. I actually installed the battery first (push the button on the bottom of the camera to slide out the internals), so if you need to start over, just pop it out again and close it. Install the app, fire it up, and follow the directions. Basically you'll be logging in (or creating a new account) and adding your new device. Tip: It will use whatever WiFi network your phone is currently configured for to connect the camera, so if you have a separate WLAN set up for cameras/surveillance, make sure to join that before completing the setup. Once that's done, the app will display a QR code that you'll hold in front of the camera to confirm. Alexa and Google will have no problem working with this camera, but apparently Apple HomeKit support was removed on this specific model! Once that was done, I gave it a name (Porch) and set it up next to a Ring Indoor Stick Up cam so I could compare. Performance ================================= It was easy to see that the resolution and field of view were immediately better on the Arlo Pro 5S compared to my Ring cam. 2k vs. 1080p doesn't sound like much of a difference, but also the FOV (160 vs. 130 degrees diagonal) helped me see more. The dual-band WiFi (again, better than my Ring) helped ensure solid streaming whenever I wanted to check in on the live view. Additionally, going "live" and speaking through the camera to have a conversation was a bit better than expected. Sure, there was some delay, but it wasn't terrible! Night vision via infrared was fine - the resolution bump helped the picture quality over my Ring cam. The "Color Night Vision" utilizes a spotlight LED to illuminate the area which really helps in low light. Again, I don't have that option on the Ring Stick Up cam, so it was nice to see here. Within the app, the first thing you'll see is you should sign up for a monthly plan for advanced features. The cheapest plan for a single camera is 4.99/month, but unlimited cameras will run you 12.99/month. That gets you up to 4k recording stored for up to 30 days, smarter motion detection features, and more. There are even more feature-rich and expensive options as well. There's a great chart on the Arlo website showing what you get at each level. After setting that up (or skipping it for now), you will see the usual device/camera options like setting up motion zones for alerts, filtering alerts, adjust motion/audio-detection sensitivity, and more. Power Management is also an option since the most efficient "Best Battery Life" mode can let this camera go for up to 8 months without charging the battery, by only recording snapshots when motion is sensed. When you need to charge your camera's battery, you'll have to pop it out of the mount and connect the magnetic charger to it. This should be done indoors as Arlo sells a separate "outdoor rated" charging cable. Conclusion ================================= Ecosystem is everything. If you're fully in the Ring camera camp (like me), it'd be hard to find a home for this camera even if it's that much better than some of my existing ones. Having said that, this is a great addition to someone who has an Arlo secure (multiple cameras, security system) setup in their home. You're getting a high-resolution, place-anywhere camera with solid connectivity (thanks dual-band WiFi) and tons of configuration options (though many behind a paywall). For those that love their Apple HomeKit enabled devices, this camera isn't for you.
