The in-store 'demo' had me concerned about the gameplay controls. But all I've read online said otherwise, and the controllers work just fine for ARMS. Not only that, but the game itself is full of many options to keep from getting boring anytime soon. A solid game for Switch.

Deceptively simple but surprisingly complex. ARMS is a great game whether you're using the motion controls or a standard controller. The free content it's received after launch has made it well worth owning for any switch gamer who wants a fresh take on the fighting genre.

Game is addicting and fun! There are several ways to customize your fighter and make him or her suitable to your play style. Once you get the rhythm and flow of battle, you will be KO’ing fighters in no time!

It's a unique type of fighting game that people are still adjusting to. The game wants you to use motion controllers, but I personally use the pro controller. Once you get through the frustration of learning the game, it's an awesome game to play online or have party matches with friends.

Let me just say this is a game I usually don't get. I like single 1 player games and generally never go online to play with other. Maybe locally with someone in my place but not random people. This game changes everything about that. Playing with others is the way to go! That's where the meat of the game is, this is where you'll be spending most of your time, this is where the fun will be at. The lobby that pits you against others is not intimidating at all. You can be sure if you have kids at home that will use this game when you can't monitor them will be just fine since there's no audio or interaction with the personal user. You get assigned to a match and you fight till there's a winner and you go back to the lobby to be assigned another. Very easy and simple. I've had no issues with disconnections. The fighters are all unique and full of personality. There's many combinations of arms to switch and use that it will never get dull because the strategy will always differ pending on what you choose and what your opponent chooses. The weight of the arms/character also changes the strategy. Light characters are fast and nimble, while heavery ones are slow and more powerful. It'll be fun to mix and match when you get a handle and comfortable with the game mechanics. There's 1 on 1's, tag team battles, all for one's, basketball, volleyball and many more. So it's always switching it up to keep it fresh. This game is enjoyed by gamers like me and casuals like my girlfriend who is just a casual. If you are on the fence with this game. Try it first hand. It can be fun with people you know to play as a perfect party game with the joycon and the motion controls. I can't wait to see what Nintendo does with this game in the future because it can definitely be improved only for the better!

ARMS is a solid fighting game for anyone looking to tie themselves over until Smash Bros Switch. Although it lacks a good single player, the game is overall fun and great with friends.

This is a fun game with easy controls that children can pick up with little difficulty. There are some more complex modes that provide fun for adults, too.

I'll get the negative out of the way first - the single player component is quite limited; you will have fun boxing with some surprisingly good AI in a variety of cool settings and modes, but there is no story for those seeking a narrative. With that out of the way, everything else about this game is flawless. It's a bold new IP developed by the same folks who are responsible for Mario Kart 8, so it's not surprising that they nailed character balance, design, and approachability. You can throw this on the TV (or the Gamepad) and have fun with your friends or strangers regardless of anybody's skill level. That said, the combat is complex and engaging, offering an exceedingly rewarding online experience, whether you're working your way up through the ranked mode or just having fun with party mode. There's something for everyone, and you'll always have a good time. To address motion controls, they are wonderful but not required. When I play at home after work, I tend to play docked with the joycons acting as my fists. When I play on the go, during my lunch break, I have almost as much fun playing with standard controls on the gamepad. In closing, this is a great game and really a proof of concept for motion controls - I wasn't sold on them in the Wii era, but ARMS made me a believer. This game is worth every penny!

This was one of the first games I got for my Switch, and while it is in no way a terrible game, it does not hold my attention for long at all. It looks great, sounds great, and has unique controls, but still fails to keep me interested for longer than 20 minutes at a time. Buy it, but only if you have friends who will FOR SURE play with you. DO NOT BUY if you get frustrated easily and/or have nobody to play with.

At first I wasn't sure what to think of ARMS, really just wanted a fighting game for the switch. What I didn't expect was how much fun it was going to be. When I showed off the switch to anybody, I showed them ARMS first. Once they played for a few rounds people got, and wanted to play more. The content is lacking a bit, but with free updates that include characters/ stages I can't complain. I love fighting games, and I'm glad I picked this up for the switch. It is a good first start to a new ip.

Really interesting fighting game. Both control methods work well but the motion controls are just so fun. I recommend trying it in local co-op for the most fun. It could use more content but is getting updated with more every so often so it should have a pretty good replay value.

ARMS is an absolutely wonderful game. It’s a fighting game, but don’t disconsider it if you don’t like fighting games. The game’s main mechanic is that everyone has stretchy arms (called ARMS), causing play to be very defensive and strategic. Additional layers of strategy are added from swapping ARMS (weapons where a normal person’s hands would be) and from the triangle of attacks. Guard beats punch, punch beats grab, grab beats shield. In terms of modes, the expected modes, Fight and Team fight are the star of the show. Grand Prix has you choose a fighter and fight for ten rounds. This helps you gain some lore regarding the universe. The other modes, while a nice occasional distraction, are nothing phenomenal. Party and Ranked are the other two main modes. These modes take you online. Party puts people of all skill levels together with all modes and items. Ranked matches you up with people close to your skill level for serious matches. The best part, in my opinion, is the characters. They’re all vibrant and colorful, and none of them feel uninspired, not even Spring Man and Ribbon Girl, the everyman characters. Various characters such as a ninja student, a ramen-lover, and a stretchy pile of goop. Every character is charming and quirky, and some of their goals are incredibly relatable and inspiring. They each have their own sort of story and tons of lore. On the topic of lore, ARMS takes a similar approach to it as Overwatch, the hit team shooter. In the gallery mode, you can buy a piece of artwork (which all looks amazing) which will have an interesting (often humorous) caption, giving a little bit of lore sometimes. I’ll now address some issues I’ve seen people bring up. Number one is the lack of modes that hold your attention. The main mode is really the main reason people buy this game, and most fighting games don’t even have side modes, and I feel Smash Bros. has left people spoiled. Number two is a lack of characters. Nintendo added five characters since launch, and I feel this is unfair because it takes so much development and programming for each character with their unique abilities. So overall, ARMS is an amazing game with so many pros that the few cons (no “story” mode, somewhat poor online matchmaking) are completely gone in my eyes. If you’re interested, I’d go for it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Virtua on meets punch out. If that sounds fun to you, you're going to love ARMS. It's a true throw-back with that classic Nintendo feel. Simple controls belie the deeper nuance of the games combat system. Every fighter can equip the games 30 or so(and growing) arms; each arm has its own characteristics and combined with each character's unique movements and special abilities gives players a lot of options despite the small roster of fighters. Online is a blast.

At first, i seemed to me as a regular boxing game with a twist with longer arms. HOWEVER, I didn't know how two-player worked with one switch until i took it to school. I hand one Joy-Con to a friend and BOOM! Instant game changer. The game is W O K E ! My teacher even had to tell us to quiet down (it was mostly because there was a peep that taking a test). In conclusion, 9.5/10 (would buy).
