Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the engaging story and enjoyable gameplay as major strengths of Assassin's Creed II Greatest Hits. Many praise the game's beautiful graphics, particularly those depicting Venice, and the variety of weapons available. While some found the game easier than anticipated, the positive feedback on the gameplay and story heavily outweighs this concern. The inclusion of Leonardo da Vinci and his inventive creations is also frequently highlighted as a positive aspect.

Assassin's Creed II: Game of the Year

The original Assassin's Creed was a terrific concept, but wasn't exciting due to the extreme hardness and repetitiveness of the missions. Assassin's Creed II takes everything that was wrong with the first game and makes it 50 times better, takes everything that was good with the first game and amplifies it 100 times. The game play was fantastic, as were the controls, the dialog, the characters, and the overall story. The Ezio character, I feel, far surpasses the Altair character from the first Assassin's Creed, and makes the leading role seem more human, due to his playboy-esque mannerisms. This game takes the open world concept that was lacking in the first game and utilizes it to make the experience seem more realistic. The mixture of history (including characters like Leonardo da Vinci, Amerigo Vespucci's family, the Medici family, and Pope Alexander VI) and fiction made this game stand out from the rest of the games for PlayStation 3. I give this game a perfect rating and I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Buona Fortuna

ACII Great Game For Any New AC Fan

AC 2 is a must have if you are a newcomer to the AC game series. I started with AC3, completed it and bought AC 2 because reviews all said it was a must have. And its pretty much true, I found myself immersed in the game-play and challenging aspects of the game just as I was in AC 3. One drawback I noticed was the graphics on some parts were not up to par with AC 3 but it does not take away from the game. It is what it is when the game was released and it still is a fun game to play. Definitely buy this if you are considering to expand your AC game collection. It is a very fun game to play!

If you liked the original you will like this one more. Gameplay felt a little less monotonous, and the trophy support gave me a bit more desire to track down more items. I don't know if I'd go back to it now considering you can just bump up to AC4

It's easy to get lost in this game. Some of the puzzles are frustratingly difficult or challenging but the free floating sandbox type environment allows for hours of stress free fun while looking at amazing graphics of a beautiful Italian backdrop. There is just enough leveling up and collecting various weapons/armour that keeps it from being an involved RPG

    USED TO BE A HATER

YES, regardless what people say I HATE THE FIRST ASSASSIN'S CREED. EXTREMELY REDUNDANT AND UNREWARDING. Yes, I uncovered all the secret emails and even then I found the story to be horrible. JUST HORRIBLE. Anyhow last year AC2 comes out. I hear that they made massive improvements. Six months pass its release price is reduced by half and I had a gift card. So I decide to give it a second chance. I have to say I am quite impressed by AC2. Why? - MUCH BETTER PRESENTATION. The game does a very good job in terms of explaining the character development while putting you in the front seat. Unlike 1st one it is not like you just go kill and get an upgrade, go kill and get an upgrade. The game takes you through so many events, each contributes to your motive, your thinking and your ambition as a character. -VARIETY OF WEAPONS AND GADGETS As you may have seen in the commercial, this game features Leonardo de Vinchi. This genius will make you some really cool weapons and gadgets (double hidden blades, poison blade, pistol, flying machine etc.). -THE ELEMENT OF CURRENCY Having monetary system in this type of open world game truly adds motives to the different activities in the game. You want to upgrade your weapons, your fort, well you need money. How can you get money? By performing variety of actions, such as stealing, assassination, beating up cheating husbands, investments (YES INVESTMENTS AS IN BANKING INVESTMENTS), racing etc. etc. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL VARIETY. In the 1st Assassins Creed it was just like steal document, evedrop or collect flag which was pretty boring. Like first many of these events are OPTIONAL. So that is a HUGE PLUS. If you don't want to waste time feebling minor things. You have options to do so. -VERY INTERSTING MAJOR SIDE MISSIONS Won't spoil, but there are two major secret items you can uncover by exploring very nicely designed HUGE SECRET AREAS and PUZZLES. -YOU CAN ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE STORY Hated the first one. You could understand why you needed to kill people, but could not connect the dots as clearly as you can in this one. LOTS OF LOTS OF EXPLANATIONS PROVIDED should you be interested. -GREAT MUSIC and DECENT FACIAL MOVEMENTS AND VOICE ACTING pretty self explanatory. For $30, I would say it is a MUST BUY.

A triumph over the original in every way...

I bought Assassin's Creed 2 on a whim having never played the first game, and I was very impressed. The free running is fun, and exhilirating. Throwing guards from the rooftops never gets old. He also moves a lot faster than Altair. The combat has been improved ten fold. The number of counter kills that he can execute is ridiculous. He has about 32 weapons to choose from. Combat is smoother now, and more often than not you will want to battle instead of running. The story is very good, as it invests in the lead character, and really lets you get to know him personally. The voice acting is good all around. The only minor problem I would say are the physics. After killing a guard, their bodies still move, and their limbs become contourted. That is a very minor hiccup though in an otherwise excellent game. BUY NOW!!!

An Assassin Worth Hiring; A Game Worth Buying

I must say that Assassin's Creed II is a great game. It's not perfect, but it's very well put together. The one thing that will stand out the most in this game is the attention to detail of famous and major buildings in the parts of Italy that this game covers. And the best part of it all - you can fully scale these behemoth towers and jump off, safely diving into a wagon (or pile) of hay or leaves. The landing may not be too realistic, because the piles, at least in reality, would not be big enough for anyone to survive - they would go straight through the pile and hit the ground...killing themselves...instantly. But that's why this is a game, and that's why we don't try to emulate these games in our real lives...for the most part. The storyline is not necessarily original, but it's the proper storyline for this game. Free-running, especially if this is the first Assassin's Creed you're going to play, may seem a bit difficult to grasp at first. It won't feel natural. However, after the first few hours, it will almost feel second-nature. You can wall-run/climb on almost anything as long as the main character, Ezio Auditore (da Firenze), can grab something with his hands if he can't reach the top in one single bound. If Ezio can reach the top of a wall within a single leap, then he can just pull himself over (after continuing a free-run control), or he can just hold on (useful for stealth attacks). The gameplay is this game's bread and butter. Sometimes, a game's B&B will be it's graphics while having mediocre gameplay. The graphics of ACII are not the most polished ones in the gaming industry, but again, the amount and level of detail associated with each area in the game more than makes up for it. Fighting mechanics are fluid, especially the countering of enemy attacks - it's almost too easy. Surprisingly, it's not really the timing, for as long as you counter while the enemy performs an attack move and before the attack hits you, the counter will register almost every time, no matter how early you decide to counter. When you are surrounded by ten or more enemies, countering will prove to be more useful rather than the continuous spamming of the attack button. There are plenty of weapons in the game, all designed uniquely and with each its own strength and weakness. These weapons range anywhere from long swords, daggers, clubs, spears, throwing knives, a hand gun, sleeve-hidden daggers, smoke bombs, and even money (for distraction). As for assassination techniques, stealth is highly encouraged, and some (very few) missions require Ezio to remain undetected (or the mission will restart from the last checkpoint). To remain undetected, the game implements a camouflage technique that involves Ezio blending in with the crowd. Walking, compared to running, will also keep Ezio less noticeable. You can also hire thieves or courtesans for distraction, and mercenaries can help you during battle, as well. Armor and weapon upgrades (available through purchasing from a blacksmith) will become unlocked after completing specific missions, after upgrading areas surrounding the Auditore villa, and/or after finding different items within Italy. There are plenty of side missions available even after the main story has been completed (races against thieves, assassination contracts, finding treasure chests, defending citizens, etc.). I haven't played the first Assassin's Creed and probably never will considering the number of reviews that I've read about it. According to those reviews, this game is a major improvement from the first. I'm happy with my choice, and I'm happy with this game. Assassin's Creed II is a game that shouldn't be passed up within the Assassin's Creed series. I'd recommend it to anyone... - anyone old enough and mature enough to handle it.

the game is very well made. Great story, easy controls, tons of replay value, and it had some parts that were quite funny. The voice acting is perfect and location is beautiful, i feel like i'm actually in Italy, Rome etc. Games usually take me about 1 - 2 weeks to beat, I've had this game for a month and i'm halfway done lol. The only problem i have with this game is its not very difficult. Besides that, I highly recommend this amazing game :)

    La Resistance!

never played the first one, so it was entirely new to me. i agree with a few users that the begining is awfully slow. im sure im not even close to finishing yet, but the only thing ive noticed is that its easier than i expected. and while its nice not to be punished by becoming desynchronized, it lessens the challenge. a little more control over the swords strikes would be nice too. i agree some camera issues, and yea some of the sequences could use sharper graphics. but a great story, not too much filler material once you get rolling, and i love how you can climb just about anywhere. and im hoping there are more armor, weapons and items, because i think i have just about everything already. but its very addicting and i love it. its not resistance 2, or resident evil, but well worth the mula. cant wait for god of war 2 to come out, final fantasy, and make resistance 3 for the love of god!

    Assassis Creed II

The intro to the story is somewhat slow, although never boring. Also, the camera sometimes goes to a view your are not expecting causing you to jump where you are not expecting. A minor detail, which you learn to play with. Once you begin the main story with Ezio, it takes off. I played through it in just under 30 hours, and there are still lots of side missions and other things to do. There are exciting twists and turns to the plot, and challenging puzzles, both in and out of the context of the game. I never once felt as though I was being forced to do the same things over and over. That was one of the pitfalls of the first Assassins Creed. Assassins Creed II met and exceeded my expectations in every way. Awesome! Keep in mind that this game is rated "M" for mature (17+ years old) audiences.

Got this game recently at my local Bestbuy after watching AC Brotherhood being played at a friends house. I have to say I just finished the game and loved it. I played the game in Italian with subtitles because the English VA did kind of get on my nerves. Plus the Italian made the game feel a lot more authentic. The story is decent, good pacing, good dialogue, but that's not really why you should be playing this. Its just a blast running around around ancient Italy exploring the sites, and climbing buildings. The combat is excellent. Very fluent, and enjoyable. I like how there is never one way to complete a mission. The game gives a lot of freedom in how you can take down targets, and it can be very satisfying when a plan works out. The frame-rates in this game can be kind of choppy. I'm told they are much better on the 360 so if you own one you might be better off looking for the game on that. But overall I loved playing this on my PS3. It was worlds better than the first. I should mention this game at time of review is $30 in stores and I got it for cheaper on sale. At that price this game is excellent and well worth your time.

Must better than the first, the missions vary, and not repititive like AC1. Story is excellent with some great plot twists, Ezio is a very fleshed out character..very well done. Graphics are gorgeous, Venice especially. Only issue i have with the game is there is some pop in here and there, which for how large the cities are this is to be expected. Also sometimes the camera will get stuck behind trees when in combat, but to fix that just lock onto another target. Overall even with the minor issues this game is excellent, and it is a must buy!

The game likely doesn't need any more praise, but it certainly deserves it. The free play and story integration is fantastic and it's content and length is enough to keep you entertained for a long time. Serveral of the side missions were not impossible, but challenging enough to cause you failure and retry several times, especially the rooftop races. Enticing longer play and a more celebrated accomplishment when you finally complete the task. Looking forward to the next installment!

I never did get to play the first Assassin's Creed game, but Assassin's Creed II is amazing! The graphics are incredible, the free-running freedom is impressive, the story is great, and it is super addicting! I found it hard to put the controller down because once you finished one part of the story, it would roll right into the next thing. I have beaten the game, but I still have hours of side missions to complete. After I get 100% completion, I think I'm going to start over again. Very fun game!

The first AC was good, but kinda static in nature. The second one has WAY more things to do and WAY more ways to do them. This version is bigger in every way. More missions, more weapons, new moves, and a much bigger story. My only knock is that sometimes the leaping controls will drive you crazy when you want to jump to some place close by and jump 50 feet somewhere else. Other than that though, compared to the first game, this is like Vegas on steroids. Highly recommend!
