Really Fun Game

I definitely recommend this game to anyone that likes the open world concept games. I'm not a huge gamer anymore but I really enjoy playing this one. The controls are pretty easy to get a hang of quickly. I like the concept of being elusive and hidden to try to get past enemies instead of having to kill them all (of course you can do that too but I don't think that's the intent of the game). I love that you get a pirate ship and can have battles with other ships either for fun or to gain important things for upgrades to your own ship. You don't have to follow the storyline as you can just do your own thing and explore, which I really do like. Overall a great game!

I'm a huge fan of Assassin's Creed. I loved the first AC, though some think of it as just a bit more than a tech demo with potential. AC2 is where everyone embraced this series until it turned to yearly releases.
The last good one for me was Brotherhood, with AC Revelations being more of the same, and AC3 being downright boring. I thought that was it for me and Assassin's Creed... until I tried one more time with AC4 Black Flag. It was the right choice, and it ended up being my favorite AC game.
The main character is the most charismatic of the AC series, and the Black Flag has supporting characters and a story that you actually care about .
While the Assassin based gameplay is largely the same, it's the sailing the seas as a pillaging pirate and the sea combat (first seen in AC3) that keeps this game fresh.
If you were starting to get or already burned out on the AC series like me, I encourage you to give AC4 Black Flag a try.

I'm a big fan of the AC series, and this one definitely makes up for any missteps that Ubisoft made with AC III. Most of the fat has been trimmed away to provide us with a truly enjoyable romp around the Caribbean as an Assassin Pirate. Unlike some other characters in this franchise, Edward Kenway is a great character right form the beginning. He's not as boring as Connor and you don't have to grow into him like Ezio. The gameplay is typical AC fare, so if you hate the games to begin with, this isn't likely to change your mind. The naval combat is fun, raiding ships and towns is a blast, and even the underlying story is pretty decently penned. My only real gripes are that some of the gameplay can be a little repetitive (typical of ANY open world game) and the graphics just don't quite look next gen. Don't get me wrong, they look better than the PS3 and 360 versions, but they pale in comparison to dedicated examples like Tomb Raider:Definitive Edition. I can't wait for devs to stop trying to develop for new and old at the same time and either make two separate games or dedicate fully to the future.

This is by far an excellent story, great side mission and quest. Collect chest, treasure chest, as you explore the great seas in the Jackdaw. You can even hunt animals. Excellent game.

Definitely one of the best Assassins Creed games! The pirate setting, getting your own pirate ship and hoping from island to island is a lot of fun. The storyline is engaging with some very cool characters along the way. This is top tier Assassins Creed. Highly recommend checking it out.

I have many, many, many hours of gameplay in and am not even close to being finished!! While you can run thru the game and finish quickly, I have found that all the extra's have really improved the game time. I also like how choosing some quests changes different things you can do, and also like checking out the stats page: which is full of all kinds of random things they keep track of, as well as important! Definitely talk this up to all my gamer friends-try it!!

This is a very highly addictive and fun game!!
Although I thoroughly enjoy the sneaking about, and action sequences, I have found that I most enjoy the sailing and upgrading of the ships, and doing all the pirating missing the most.
When I was younger I had an extreme fascination with Tall Ships, and playing this game, while being able to pilot the ships, is like a long time dream come true.
Simply Love This Game!!

This game was my first real introduction into the Assassin's Creed series (I tried the first hour of ACIII, got bored and never went back). The story was very fairly entertaining and if you like Ubisoft games with lots of exploration and things to collect, this is a great game for you. The ship battles are fun and the combat, while repetitive, isn't too terrible. Overall, if you find it on sale (which you can, often for under $20), pick it up and have a fun week of gameplay.

I have been a long time fan of the story line and gameplay of assassians creed.. They really stepped it up in this game.
The free roam on the ocean is amazing.. you can truly get lost at sea on this game! Everything about this game was awesome.. the story line, synchronizations, treasure hunts, the fighting, fragment pieces and especially the fast travel!
Fast travel was taken much further in this game and you didnt have to spend most of your gameplay time running from one half of the world to the other you could pretty much fast travel everywhere you synchronize and that is great!
This was my first PS4 game and it was a great choice! There is quite a bit of language in the story mode so watch out with the little ones around.. but all the other times on the boat and free roam my 9, 11 and 16yr old loved watching me play..

A very fun interactive game that shows you allot of action packed by being a pirate. Its a plus you get 60 minutes of play time with the ps4 as well. I like the fact that all the scenes an weapons looks just like you see in pirate movies an books. By them doing this you can feel like you a pirate while being in this game. The downfall is still a little short story to play.Overall great game to buy.

Masterful Upgrade to a Stale Franchise

AC Games are AC games, right? Not with AC4. Yes, every AC game from II to III (including all the Ezio unnumbered games) were great, but the formula started to become stale. By ACIII you could tell exactly what you were getting and were rarely surprised.
AC4 is totally different - feels a lot like a AAA modern version of Sid Meier's original "Pirates!" for the PC. You've got all the usual AC stuff there underneath (sneak, assassinate, etc) built around a free-form system whereby you have a boat and the Caribbean Sea to sail her by. Island hop between missions, engage in naval battles massively upgraded from AC III, board ships, manage your crew (sorta). Now instead of just running the rooftops, you are also sailing the seas.
Not to mention the biggest upgrade is visuals and performance. There is no drab colonial America here - you've got the bright blues greens and yellows of the Caribbean, tropical islands, it looks great in 1080p (at least on the PS4, I know the Xbox One version is 720p or 900p or something like that). But the best part is performance - I've been playing for tens of hours now and I've hit neither a screen tear nor a frame drop. Seriously, this game holds a steady 30fps the entire time, even during demanding naval battles. It just looks and feels very fluid, which you can't say about a lot of games anymore (especially AC Unity- ugh).
If you like Assassin's Creed- BUY THIS GAME NOW
If you like but are burned out on AC - This game will probably bring you back into the fold
If you hate the AC games but the idea of being a pirate sounds cool - I'd say it's worth a rental just to see if you like it
*My only gripe is that with the conclusion of Desmond's story in AC3, Ubisoft isn't quite sure where to take the modern-day portion of their story. There is some modern-day stuff, and they are still playing with their Abstergo video game company stuff they started mentioning in previous handheld and multiplayer components, but so far it isn't very engaging and just appears to be some background filler while they figure out what they want to do with it (if anything at all, I know a lot of people don't seem to like the modern day stuff). Unfortunately, I do like the modern-day bookend story telling of the earlier games, but that seems to be on hold in earnest for the moment.

While it's not as good as the previous games in the series involving Altair and Ezio, this is another solid play for Assassin's Creed. Once again, the attention to detail in the architecture and history set it apart from other games.

Love the sailing aspect and the battles at sea, much different from other offerings. Can get repetitive and never put enough time in I guess to truly compete with the historical warships. Storyline was great with the inclusion of so many historical known and unknown pirates of the Caribbean.

I have been an AC fan since the beginning. This is their best release in years. It has a ton of side missions and the overall story line is good. It's a bit more challenging than previous AC releases, which makes it more fun in my opinion. You have to be more stragtic to get into a lot of the restricted areas, but no worries to all of you who love the free running and open interactive environment, there is still plenty of that. Even though I know a lot of people would disagree with me, I don't think spending so much time on the ship was the best choice. Traveling between the islands and certain missions are fun, but at times the boat maneuvering gets annoying, and it's difficult to destroy enemy ships or other targets. Still a very good game and worth a play if you've never given an AC a go.

I am not an Assassins Creed 1, 2 or 3 fan. I tried but could never get into them. I got this one because this one seemed to be the best out of the lackluster amount of PS4 launch titles. I am totally hooked on this game. It has far surpassed all my expectations. The graphics are top notch, the story has been pretty sweet and the boat action is awesome. I still have a couple issues with the controls, but I can look past them because this game is so good. Get it so you can play through it before Second Son is released!

Fantastic Addition in the Assassin's Creed Series

This was yet another excellent continuation of the Assassin's Creed series of games. The naval system in AC3 was a fun, new and fresh side-addition of the game - Black Flag took it even further, refining it and integrating it to be a main core part of the game. Naval combats were always fun, never felt like a chore and just were a plain blast. The locations in this tropical region all felt different, and it was nice to see a few big names here and there. The main storyline was well written and really involved you into the story - while the story back in the real world really worked well as well - even connecting with the Animus storyline.
The scenery is gorgeous - especially being on the PS4 - making this a no-brainer to purchase for fans of the series.

I've tried several AC games in the past and never could get into them. Controls never seemed to work right and the games were too linear for me. I decided to give AC another shot with Black Flag since there was not much variety of launch titles for the new console generation. Glad I did. Loved the open world exploring and pirate theme. Took me quite a while to get through the main quest because I had such a blast pillaging and plundering the high seas. Only complaint I have is that the controls get awkward occasionally and Kenway refuses to do what I want him to. Graphically, the game looks great. A must buy game for PS4.

After Brotherhood, I chose to take a break from the assassin's creed franchise, because it had became rather stale for me. When Unity was released, I had considered giving it another try, but after hearing about its many issues, I chose to give Black Flag a try instead;I'm glad I did.
Black Flag takes a fresh approach, with the Pirate theme. There's nothing like sailing away from an island, and hearing your crew singing shanties, as you take to the high seas, and battle with other ships. The hand to hand combat continues on the ships too.
I've been recommending this game to all my friends, who have also taken a break, or have never tried the series. It made me love this series again.
