Battery drains rapidly even when powered down. Not sure if I got a defective one or if its just not a stellar product.

We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience if you are experiencing slow system speed or performance issue and the battery draining faster than normal.
Keeping Windows updated will maintain optimum system stability and performance, please check if Windows is up to date in order to resolve the slow speed or performance. Please ensure the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will definitely affect system speed and performance. If these steps were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.
In order to improve or prolong the battery charged time if it's draining rapidly, please try to do a battery calibration manually. To start with, please drain it completely then charge it fully without using the system. Once fully-charged, please use the system, without the AC adapter connected, and drain it completely again.Also, please verify if the unit is running with the most current system update and third-party battery draining applications are not running if not in used.

Only worked for 8 months

This is not an issue for me but the laptop died in late June 2023 where I could not boot it up so there was no way to reload Windows or find the issue.

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this on sale for $110 -- good price point for a nice, basic machine for use on travel, etc. Only caveat -- IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST FIRMWARE!!! I had the same problem another reviewer had with battery drainage when the machine was shut down. In fact, it was so bad I took the 1st one I got back and exchanged it because I assumed the battery was defective. The 2nd one showed the same behavior until I found the review talking about updating the firmware, and that fixed it.
