I bought 3 of these for my 3 kids. One of the three was defective out of the box, but the exchange was easy enough. The specs seem impressive but really this is only good for little kid games / websites (Nick Jr, Roblox, etc. Not enough power for a full time computer.

after using this laptop for approximately 3 weeks, it developed a problem where it would not allow me to put in my log on password. Returned it to Best Buy where customer service said they'd never seen something like that. Went with a different laptop.

Great Entry Level Laptop...that MUST be Tweaked...

Just purchased this on Friday during the recent sale period for $199. After reading a number of reviews, I decided it was worth a shot purchasing this to fill a void we have between iDevices (ex. tablets, phones, AppleTV, etc) and our main, full-fledged PC. I was pretty sure with a little elbow grease, this would be a perfect way to fill that void and not break the bank, and my gamble was good one. As many of the INFORMATIVE reviews have pointed out, the main thing is to have a realistic expectation of what this laptop will do. It's not a performance laptop by any spec. To keep the roughly $200 price point for an actual laptop, a number of concessions had to be made. The processor is a strong mobile processor...or a weak "PC" processor. The integrated Ethernet LAN is ONLY 10/100...not Gigabit. These are just a few compromises. Layer that with the typical bloatware installed on just about every off the shelf laptop, PC, etc...and you get an awful piece of tech OUT OF THE BOX. However, with a little standard cleanup, this laptop, just like other "bargain" tech, can actually perform well given realistic expectations. The first thing I always do is remove all the bloatware, such as anything with ASUS listed as the "vendor" in the Add/Remove Programs area. Next, remove all the Anti-Virus "Suite" software. It's amazing how many folks will use an overly heavy AV like McAfee. This alone renders the laptop useless, due to all the overhead. And to confirm...yes, the laptop is pretty much non-usable out of the box unless you remove all this stuff. However, basically just uninstalling all this "stuff" and getting back to a core Windows 10 operating system makes this a VERY good laptop. Last thing is making sure to visit the Power Options and tweak the advanced settings to meet your battery performance vs. system performance needs. In our case, we typically have it plugged in...so I prefer maximum performance over power savings. Just make sure that you at least use the embedded Windows Defender once you remove McAfee, etc...then do some research and find a lightweight AV tool to install, if you don't trust or like Windows Defender. Since "tweaking" this laptop, as previously mentioned, I've used the laptop to browse the net, installed my own copy of MS Office, hooked it up to and tested our HP OfficeJet Pro 8610, streamed Netflix, streamed shared uncompressed AVCHD #high-def home video# from our home network, and am extremely pleased with the performance! Again...since it doesn't have Gigabit Ethernet, the wireless on N band is actually faster, with a good signal. Considering you are paying the price of a netbook and getting an actual laptop, this is a fantastic deal that fills a void many homes have between tablets and full blown computing, or if you need a laptop for kiddos/students. The other thing worth mentioning is that since it has an actual hard drive with 500GB of storage, you won't have an issue that many of the "netbook" Windows 10 laptops have, which require quite a bit of involved tweaking to even update the OS to current specs, since the last update from Microsoft was basically a huge service pack and those glorified netbooks didn't typically have enough space to accommodate the update. Set your expectations correctly, put in a little bit of elbow grease, and you won't be disappointed with this laptop.

Not a bad first computer for my high school student and the cost. Speed is a little slow but enough for basic school computing and browsing.
