I bought more than one as presents for my nephews. They had problems with both after returning computers. They received new ones in which same issue occured and when returned those they had discontinued that model leaving my nephews with 2 non work devices.

I'm not sure what some were expecting for $139. As for me, I'm very happy. I would say this is a $250 laptop. Build quality is a nice textured plastic & nice keyboard. It is lightweight. The screen looks great to me, goes very bright & dim enough also. The speakers are loud & clear. Windows 10, 500GB, HDMI out & DVDRW Drive are all great adds to this. USB 3.0 too is good. Battery life seems to be around 5 hours so far. I watched some YouTube & it looked & sounded very good & did not stutter for me. In websurfing, I did notice that one, maybe two windows at a time is best as things start to slow down with more going on. It is nearly silent and doesn't get warm. The processor seems to be the weakest link sometimes slowing down processes or freezing a bit. I've found with some patience, deleting bloatware & keeping it to just a couple of things at a time it's definitely usable. Just temper your expectations for it being very fast, it's not. What it is though is a sufficient PC for storing content, watching online video (Netflix, YouTube), surfing the web, watching DVDs & doing any basic PC work (organizing files, etc).

I’ve purchased this unit during the Black Friday sale’s event, like many others that have reviewed it earlier. I’ve played quite a bit with it before posting my comment and followed many of the advises that were share here as well. I’ve rated 5 stars this unit since it delivers what it is supposed to deliver in spade. This is a sturdy cheap laptop designed for basic tasks that, with some tweaks (all those suggested below), it turns into a very reliable and efficient machine that “gets the job done” flawlessly. What you essentially have here is an equivalent of “net surfer book” in a slightly wider package with few additions (4 GB RAM, 500 HD and a DVD burner/player) that place it in the laptops’ category. It is certainly NOT a full blown/high end machine, but it allows full internet functionalities and basic office work without using “lookalike app” and memory sticks. I’ve read some owners complaining about noisy fans and hard-drive … in my case, whatever I hear it doesn’t bother me. I was able to stream few movies from Netflix flawlessly with no bottleneck effect whatsoever. I’ve also added MS Office 2010 Home (via DVD player) with no problem – Word/Excel/Power Point files were opened simultaneously with no lagging as well. The Google package (browser/caster) works flawlessly as well. I’ve also installed the Norton Suite (a stress-test attempt) that seems to not withdrawing excessive resources (I might remove it and switch it for a lighter option). Not a bad deal for the cost of a dinner for 4, in a chain restaurant. Expectations have to be set in a realistic range; otherwise they can turn into a continuous source of disappointment ….

You can get onto any websites for some reason it keeps asking for passwords before doing anything

I bought this laptop for my wife online around Thanksgiving. She uses it to work from home and is a major step up from the 8 year old desktop she was using. Windows 10 is a bit of an adjustment compared to Windows 7, especially when looking for the Control Panel. Overall we are pleased with the performance thus far. It is not the fastest PC nor should you expect it to be for a basic laptop. Some reviewers are a bit unrealistic regarding their expectations for the price.

I am sure I will update this later... I ordered this as one of the early access deals...placed yesterday, received today...SUPER FAST SHIPPING. Construction is OK...not the cheapest of materials but definitely not as well constructed as my regular laptop. The key reason for the quick response is to alert folks that even though this has a DVD drive...it does not seem to ship with DVD movie software. It has Cyberlink PhotoDirector and PowerDirector. I wouldn't let that stop you from ordering...just be prepared that if you are buying this to watch dvd movies...you will have to buy or install a 3rd party app...

Good quality screen and appears solid. This is a very basic laptop that struggles running basic web apps with its processor. As long as you are not looking for high speed and willing to sacrifice performance for $ it should be ok. I am using this for a child to access web for homework etc. works well for a budget machine and fits the need.

Got this on the black friday sales for $139. What a bargain. I recommend that you uninstall the anti-virus that comes with it. It will make the computer twice as fast. The dvd player works good but you have to download a program for it to use it. I use VLC media player as it's a free program.

Good laptop. The only thing I don't like about it is the mouse, its a little hard to press so I had to buy a wireless mouse from a store. Also, DVD movies will not play on this laptop because it is Windows 10. You can download a file to get dvds to play. I used VideoLan and it works for me. So if anyone wants to buy this laptop download that to make dvds play!

i bought this for $169.99. keyboard is great. mouse is decent but this computer is slow but...after I uninstalled unneeded programs and removed start up programs from task manager and removed services from "services.msc", this thing runs pretty smooth now. 6 watts of power is not going to give you i7 processor power but you can use this to stream movies, surf the net, play light games and school work.

I bought this right around Black Friday for my mother who was wanting a laptop. She's not too into computers so I wanted something that would have everything she needed and not be overwhelming for her to handle. This laptop is perfect for her. She's getting use to Windows 10 but overall this was the best choice for a steal of a price! My only concern would be the track pad is a little frustrating to deal with only because the parts where you would click on something is attached to the track pad. It's all combined to one thing almost and can cause a few frustrating mis-clicks here and there. I would suggest buying a USB mouse like I did. So much easier. Still a great laptop!

This laptop was purchased as a christmas gift. Very impressed with Windows 10, battery life is exceptional, plenty of storage and performance is more than adequate for heavy gaming and movie streaming. Works great on the job site as well.

Got this on the black friday deal for a teen that I mentor and needed a computer in her house. She loves it. I must say that I did work for Geeksquad in undergrad so I knew how to clean it off and update it to help it perform better. Overall, it works and gets the job done. She's a junior in high school so she only needs it to write papers, make powerpoint presentation and get on Facebook. For a teen, it was a good buy.

I bought two of these computers during the sale period. I am a fairly techy individual and have a surface 3, MacBook pro with an i7, and a home built desktop. This laptop will be used for simple online work and writing papers for class. The second computer is for my mom to also use for basic computing functions. In general, the laptop was a good purchase and works well! The main complaint would be the bloatware from asus that needed to be optimized in order to get the best experience. If this computer would have a better processor or cpu then this would not have been a problem. For basic work it is a good choice, especially for the price! However, be aware that replacing the ram is possible but requires the removal of the whole bottom - there is not a simple ram slot.

I contemplated waiting for the Amazon sale but bought this for $10 more this seems like the better bargain cause its a newer model (has windows 10 vs 8.1) it also has DVD which the other didnt. For me was worth an extra $10. Now the waiting till it arrives. my rating is provisional

Pretty cheap laptop but performance ok for the price. Bought a similar one in 2012 and still working good.

can someone tell me if i can play csgo (Counter Strike Global Offensive) on high setting with this??

The cpu of this laptop is very low level so you wont be doing much high tech computing with it. But i bought this laptop on Black Friday to replace my tablet that's screen cracked in half to watch videos on when i''m out and about. And for that it has been working great. Speakers are loud enough to be heard in a coffee shop. Vlc works fine. And the file transfer from my portable hdd went much faster than i expected. So worth the price but for any new age programs i will be using my home computer because it has the necessary ram and processor for those functions.

Screen went gibberish - color bars all across after 1 week use. Power off and on fixed it. 5 days later screen went bad again today. Just call BB and they will accept exchange. I like to switch to another brand but I got this at $139 on sale. I have no extra cash right now to buy $279 HP laptop. I take the exchange instead and hope I got a defect - not all asus are bad.

windows 10, dvd, not much bloatware, great celeron processor! cant go wrong with this one!
