First understand that I am not a heavy duty gamer, though I am doing a very cpu intensive game now called Cities:Skylines. On my old laptop, it took literally 5-7 mins for my city to load. On this laptop, it takes about 20 seconds!
As a retired tech, I know something of the specs etc, and reserch I did showed this to be one of the best available right now, in Intel CPUs. The three core, 6 logical cores means a lot to processing.
For real heavy duty stuff, more memory is needed, and I will upgrade this to the 32gb max you can put in it. I do wish it supported 64 gb. But bassicallly it seems a very good laptop to me.
I don't know what all the fuss is with the monitor as I do not keep up with the latest stuff anymore Like I did when I was younger. I do know of course that 75Hz refresh is superior to 60Hz, but doubt it really matters much in the long run
I guess there are still the 'freakos' around who love to track specs, fps etc, as there have always been. I used to be one myself. LOL
If you need a very good laptop, fast cpu, this certainly fills the bill. I do not know how it performs on Call of Duty 79 or whatever. but its seemingly an excellent machine to me
PS Help this old fogey out by answering a question which shows how little I must know about gaming....what are the color bars on each end of the machine for? They are very pretty, but I cannot imagine what possible function they have! Thanks.

Battery life is awful. You’re better off building a pc of your own. It’s so big and bulky that you won’t want to take it anywhere . Bad battery life to it has to be plugged in all the time.

This laptop was my first gaming laptop, having built my gaming desktop previously. I've gotta say, this laptop packs a punch! It's fast, looks nice, and runs every game I've played on it thus far! FFXIV runs smoothly, even when on crowded servers, Jurassic World Evolution runs beautifully, textures look amazing! Doom and TF2 runs without lag.
I love this laptop!

Love this computer! Great performance on gaming. Screen looks great. I also use this laptop for productivity and the screen is great for this. Keyboard feels great. I've been buying ASUS for years and this computer did not disappoint. Although the body is made of plastic, it is sturdy and the finish/texture makes it look good.

Caught this one on a pre-Christmas sale and it was too good a price to let slip by. Its a solid performer, but to be fair, I play mostly old school stuff that really doesn't stress this machine too hard at all. Extremely happy with it so far...
(Ease of Use is average, but that's because I'm not a Win 10 fan. This machine supplements my main MacBook Pro)

Solid. Powerful. Battery goes by quickly though with the 17.3 but can be customized for longer lasting life. Runs quiet and cool! Cool illumination but sometimes blinks red even when battery appears to be fully charged. Still investigating a cause.

The description of what you are to expect from this product are 100% accurate. Currently, I am playing Destiny 2, Greedfall, League of Legends, The Division 2, Final Fantasy XIV, and Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution.
For the listed games above (except for Greedfall: you'll have to drop to lower video setting at times), you can play at the highest video settings possible for the games and have a grand experience with little to no issue whatsoever. PS4 and Xbox controllers work great with this laptop (I'm using a G502 Hero Mouse as well).
I've been a PS gamer since the old days and I still love the console. But since getting this laptop, I've been converted to PC while occasionally going back to PS for exclusives. I love the fact that I can play AAA titles with no lag, incredible graphics, and 60 fps. The 17" screen is also a huge plus for me and I love the aesthetic of the laptop itself and the color changing keyboard. I haven't ran into any real problems and I hope to keep this for the next 3 years.
Oh, and I didn't pay full price. I got it at the end of the year when it was $200 off!!!!!

So - I bought this when it was $900, and more or less the first thing I did was install the 1TB HDD from my old laptop inside this one. ASUS actually included the screws + the necessary adapter to install the drive in the box, so it was a relatively simple process of unscrewing the back and then using a plastic wedge to unhook the clips. Maybe a little more involved than some laptops, but still plenty serviceable - while inside, I noted that the 16GB RAM is already dual-channel, as both slots were filled on the board. While that means if I want to expand my storage it'll necessitate replacing both sticks, it's still great to see that I'm getting solid CPU performance out of the box.
As for performance... everything I threw at it ran smooth at max settings. Battery life is good, too. About 5 hours without watching video, 3 watching video, and an hour and a half while gaming. For $900, you can't do much better than this! Shame about the 60hz panel, but it really isn't that big of a loss if you want to use your laptop for stuff outside of gaming too - you get better battery life with a 60hz panel.

I am not a heavy gamer. I bought this to run mapping software, art programs, and to play the occasional RPG or sandbox game. Not a computer expert either! So this review is from an average user.
Pros:
- Fast (wonderful graphics card, good processor, plenty of RAM. I've never owned a laptop that can take on ARCGIS Pro and not slow to a crawl. The fan gets loud, but this baby will keep things running briskly.)
- Full keyboard with number pad that is easy to type on
- RGB lighting that can be toggled on and off
- Good Bluetooth
- Plenty of shortcut keys
- good speakers
Cons:
- noisy fan
- track pad is finicky and doesn't receive input sometimes. I rely heavily on my mouse or tablet to get things done efficiently because sometimes it is almost like not having a track pad.
- big, it doesn't fit easily into most standard laptop bags so you need to buy a custom one
- One of the USB ports is iffy about detecting certain kinds of input. I can plug USB sticks in and it will read them but it will not see my printer so I always have to switch to a nother port when I'm hooking it up to the USB.
- This is a Windows/Asus software problem but it was infuriating trying to listen to audio. The only way it would detect headphones for the longest time was if I plugged the headphones in BEFORE booting up the computer. If I unplugged them while the laptop was running it would not detect them again once plugged back in and bypass and go through the speakers. I've had to disable some settings that eventually fixed part of the issue but instead it has given me a different kind of detection issue. :/
- the bottom light strip can't be turned off without special software that does not come with the laptop.
- annoying start up sound can't be disabled unless you go into the BIOS.
- whenever I plug in my charger or unplug it my scream will go black for several seconds and then turn back on. Weird, right?

I enjoy this computer. It does what I need it to do and I got it at a good price. Make sure to get this computer during a sale. Do not pay full retail price for it. And be sure to have a warranty or return policy when purchasing. I was forced to exchange my original purchase of this item after a critical failure. I was unable to start the computer within a week of purchase. Since I exchanged it (for the exact same product) I've had no issues. Boots quickly. runs my games smoothly. Doesn't seem to overheat. I've had the new computer for about 3 weeks now with no issues.

This computer is a well designed windows machine with a great processing power. It's fast and opens up programs like MatLab in a minute or two. The lights on the side are a little superfluous but still pretty cool. Overall good computer.

Gaming on a standard laptop to this is an amazing upgrade. The machine holds up to their name and have exceeded in speed, sound, and graphics. We now have 2 of them just because they’re that good.

So far it has been working well. I bought an open box product but it looks new and clean out of the box. It is very fast and smooth comparing to my old laptop, which is getting replaced by this one. The outer case is made of plastic but it has a good finish and feels durable. Although keyboard lights aren't really my thing, they do look awesome. Screen is nice, too. I'm not a hardcore gamer so 60 Hz suffices. I couldn't decide between 15.6" and 17.3" but I am glad now I chose the latter. I have not tested how well it performs with games.
Also, the laptop comes with a G731 HDD FFC, I found out it is used to connect a HDD, but I'm not sure which type and how to do the connection. If someone can share some information on that it would be great.
