Decent 2-in-1
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll be honest, most of my grievances with this 2-in-1 are pet peeves and minor inconveniences. The trackpad buttons are a bit finnicky and when I mean to right click, it often left clicks. There's no Fn lock and alt codes for unicode characters like — and á don't work, which is incredibly frustrating if you speak any language but English or are a writer and use more "advanced" punctuation. On perhaps a more serious note, it seems like something is always going wrong with this 2-in-1. It might just be Windows 10, who knows, but today battery saver mode just will not turn off. Yesterday the trackpad froze and I had to force shut down the whole thing to get it to work again. I should mention that I have not even had this for a year yet. It is a lightweight, fast device, for that I am grateful, but it's weirdly lacking in basic laptop abilities and seemingly capricious about cooperation.

poor ratings are true
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have purchased and built dozens (Asus makes really great motherboards) of computers. This 14" Asus, bought for a family member, is painfully slow. There seemed to be a lot of popup bloatware even for Windows, but I applied all the updates so I could backup the original Win 10 before getting to the real task of restoring from a backup. Gave up after a few hours. This thing was so slow I could not make it through the process. Yes, all updates were done. The slow HDD alone does not explain the speed, nor does using Windows, although I expected poor response because of those two things. An 8th gen I5 with 8Gb has no good reason for ever being this slow, regardless of machine state. Some mouse clicks took 60 seconds or longer. I had to return it. Also, after researching this model, I found the hardrive in this should not be replaced by most while under warranty. The case snaps together and is guarded by four or five short, easy to wreck, molex ribbon cables. If you want to upgrade to SSD under warranty forget it. If you are buying a laptop with longevity in mind, download the user manual first and make sure the drive and memory can be upgraded. Most Asuspro models seem to be good, but be very wary of other Asus lines.

Great Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am extremely happy with this laptop. Most review stated that it begun really fast and then progressively slowed down. The only issue i had with the laptop being slow was when it was downloading updates. Updates took about a day to complete. After the updates it was back to its fast speed and running properly. Extremely happy with my purchase. The only downside is that ASUS doesnt make cases for it. The hinges are pretty sturdy but i wouldnt mind adding a case to it.

Returned it once and swapped out
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the worst computer I have ever bought. I bought this a first time and using the default browser made the computer run slow and it wasn't because of the internet connection. Half the time I powered on the computer the touchpad disabled itself and couldn't be enabled using the fn keys or going through the manual settings because it wouldn't show up there. I wasn't able to have multiple windows opened which is quite disappointing in an i5 processor. When I returned the first model thinking it was just a manufactural error I swapped it for the second one that runs slower than a windows 95 computer.

Fantastic device that really deserves an SSD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll preface this quick review with this - if you're thinking of getting one of these, wait for it to go on sale. At $729, it's hard for me to recommend this over a comparable Lenovo 730. But whenever this gets a nice price cut and you can use a Student Deal coupon as well, this device is well worth the money. My biggest gripe with it is that at its price, it really deserves an SSD instead of a 5400RPM disk drive. I highly recommend getting an SSD and having Geek Squad install it for you, especially if you've got Total Tech Support! Overall this thing is pretty great while being nice and portable with a solid build quality.

Disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer 4 days ago because my previous experience with Asus was good. I returned it because of the noise and because it freezed up frequently. It has a very slow start up, and it took 2 1/2 hours for the system update to complete. I exchanged it for the same computer because I liked the features. I hoped that I just got a dud the first time and that the second one would be better., If it is possible, the second PC is slower than the first. I am returning it and getting a different brand. Don't waste your money on this PC.

Awesome laptop with lot of upgrade options
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ram is upgradeable to 16 GB. Just make sure that the RAM you buy is 8GB DDR4@2133MHZ to enable Dual channel mode. There is also an M.2 SSD slot so that you can upgrade storage to M.2 or an SSD, or have both. The RAM slot is below the motherboard so accessing it is a bit difficult. Dissassembly pictures and benchmark screenshots @ https://imgur.com/a/TkWC36X

Killer laptop once you get over the updates
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please keep in mind that it will take several hours for this laptop to get caught up to date with all the Windows 10 updates initially. Once you're done it's an amazing laptop for the price. It runs just fine with the stock hard drive, but I'm sure you can get some more speed by swapping it out for an SSD and more RAM.

Four Years Later
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After four constant years of use, I'm pretty proud of this machine for dealing with my troubles. Pros: somewhat lightweight, easy to set up, convertible, Cons: battery life, terribly slow hard disk, painful disassembly process.

Don't Recommend
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this laptop for a couple of years now and have had many problems with it. It only holds a charge for maybe 45 minutes of continuous work. The touchpad randomly stops working, so I have to restart the whole laptop a few times to get it to work again. The system is extremely slow on start up. I got this for college and have been extremely disappointed in it, if I could afford a better one I would have replaced it a long time ago. The laptop just continues to go downhill.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had some trouble with the windows update but once I got all the updates done it ran great. Awesome deal, awesome performance (With an SSD)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for Programming and Software development tasks for around 510$ w/o taxes. The hard disk included with this laptop is a 1 TB HDD running at 5400 RPM which makes the laptop really slow. The first thing I did was to upgrade to a Samsung EVO SSD. Upgrading this laptop is really easy, after the upgrade the laptop beats any laptops in the 900$ - 1000$ category in benchmarks and upgrading the bios to the May 2018 version increased the battery life to around 8 hours. This is a great buy if you are a bit tech savvy.

So far not worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this up for my wife as she needed a new laptop and Asus was the last one she had. I consider myself pretty tech savvy and can build my own pc’s, install software etc. I brought this home and got through the initial setup before I could actually get to the update part. The update yet still has to get completed after 4hrs as the first one fails forcing you to restart all over. Then I just restarted it and it’s been another 2 hrs and says ( getting windows ready don’t turn off your computer ) I most likely will be returning it within the next 2 days if I still cannot get the updates completed. Also might just have a SSD installed and see if that helps ditching the standard drive it comes with.

This laptop sucks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop 2 years ago and it hasn't held up well at all. The battery life is terrible, 8 gb of ram is not enough to run this, 1 tb of hdd makes this thing run superrr slow. The screen is way too dim(on max brightness) so its impossible to use outside. The fan on this thing is also way too loud and it heats up way too often causing it to throttle the performance. Also because of the heat I can't use this on my lap. I'll admit the build quality and keyboard is okay. Overall this laptop is hot garbage and I'm glad that it has been discontinued.

So far...thank you Asus and BB...you had it in stock...for cash and carry...did not want to wait....stay tuned....
