Very nice out of the box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research before I decided on this laptop. Out of the box it is great. Getting it set up took just minutes which kind of surprised me for a Windows machine. Very nice! I had Trend Micro installed and was surfing the web with the new Edge browser in less than 20 minutes. Seems to be really fast for an i5. WiFi works extremely well. Touch screen works really well and I think this is a HUGE improvement over Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Time will tell on how it continues to perform but right out of the box it seems to be great.

Extremely Fast Computer When Modified
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon purchasing this Asus 2 in 1 I immediately modded it to have 12GB RAM and a 500GB Samsung 350 EVO 3D NAND SSD instead of the poky 5400 rpm drive it comes with. This combination really lets the Core i5 operate at breakneck speed - and the computer cold boots from on to desktop in 11 seconds. Loading Firefox takes 2.5 seconds and subsequent loads are nearly instantaneous. Very nice, smooth and fast once the 5400 rpm bottleneck is removed. Highly recommend.

Nice Upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everyday technology is getting much more advanced, and this computer has a nice upgrade to it all. The 2 in 1 feature I absolutely love the most. I love how you could easily go from laptop to tablet with a simple backflip of the screen or simply use the touch screen to access points much faster. Quick, fast n easy. The i5 is much more power than you need for basic multi-tasking, you could easily play a few games on it without having it to lag which is nice and with the 1T internal HD you can't go wrong with all that memory for music, videos, and extra programs. I love the new Windows 10, so many new features you could easily customize to your likings. The cons: It is a bit heavy, so to the weak ones, you might have trouble fliping from top to tab with the fear of dropping your precious. With that being said, when in tablet mode, I'm afraid of damaging the keyboard when or if you plan on laying it flat on a hard surface so it would be nice to come with some sort of squishy soft pad and finally its a greasy fingerprint smudger lover. very hard to keep it clean if you plan on touching it after a nice hot wing lunch. Other than that the computer is a must have, perfect for school, office use, business, or just basic at home fun. 10/10 in my book.

ASUS IS BAD. STAY AWAY FROM ALL OF THEIR PRODUCTS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop and I've had nothing but problems since I received the laptop. I have a replacement one through them and after using it for 1 week it just died. They are going to force me to send it in and wait another month before I receive a new laptop. They will not send me a laptop. STAY AWAY FROM ASUS. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU.

Microsoft Cares Not
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hardware is strong! Bought open box Q502 2:1 model w/ free W10 upgrade by phone 9/19/15. Arrived 9/23/15. Problem is final upgrade steps must be performed by the purchaser, and process is not the same depending on where you buy it. (based on Microsoft vs. BBUY recommendations. In my case, BBUY was supposed to send me an email with the first 20 characters of the "product key" to which I would append the five characters embedded in the W10 software to enable W10 full functionality. Email never came, and no one at BBUY seems to know the origin of the 20 missing characters, or how to backtrack: Not even the higher-ups at the Geek Squad. I don't know if the product key method is unique to W10, but I suggest if your system has been upgraded, that it is "Activated" for you before you leave the store, and that you are provided with the full product key. Relative to the title of this memo, I searched all over the Microsoft web site for a way to get around this problem. This one would expect to find a way or place to cross reference W10 registration and the 5 char string to gain access to the product key. Still searching....

Pretty Solid Computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hello! After having the laptop for a few days, unfortunately, I'm having to return it. Not sure if it's this particular one, or just the model, but it won't work with my companies Windows to Go device. Deal breaker for me. However, I thought it would be nice to put together a review of the product from my first 3 days with it. Overall, pretty solid laptop based on the purchase specs. I went with this one simply because I thought the keyboard looked better than the other one with same specs... After coming from a 13.3 with SSD, I was really shocked by how slow this computer is at startup. I know with the 5,400 HD that it would be slower, but I was just shocked by how much slower. Whereas my other laptop was on and W10 fully loaded in about 7 seconds, this is 30-40 seconds. The other issue is that the similar spec model that I could have chosen from seems to have 9.5 hours of battery life according to the in store display. This one will show about 4-5 hours when you unplug the charger and probably gave me 6 with a day of work, downloading apps and adding all my Google Drive folders. I felt that you might get 6--7 on battery if not downloading/installing all the software, but still not what the other one is getting. And again, when you unplug it, it will only show 4-5 hours. Had this one worked with my Windows to Go device(and yes I did adjust the settings so it would work, but it just flat won't load#, I would have switched out the HD for a SSD and it would have probably be spot on to what I wanted. I really like having 3 USB 3.0 ports plus Ethernet. Not had ANY issues with Wifi connection so far, which I know is sometimes an issue with Asus laptops. As for the 2-1, it's a little big to effectively use as a 2-1. I'm really considering switching out for a 14 inch instead of a 15.6, but I'm really wanting the number pad on the left. Trackpad seems to be pretty good and neutral. Some I've used have been difficult and touchy, and this one seems to be right on the money. I do use a separate mouse most of the time though. Not spent much time with the touch screen, but seems to be good so far. So in conclusion, battery life is worse than the other Asus with same specs, HD is super slow#I would upgrade to a SSD if you can, and my research suggests that the warranty won't be voided, but that's a risk you have to take on your own), and a bit big to use as a 2-1 but still capable of doing such. Ohh one last thing. I really like that the charger is a box and a cord. No adapters, or packs or anything like that. It's the best laptop power cord I've ever seen and I wish all the manufacturers would switch to one like this! Hope this helps!

Great Computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally purchased the Asus XL555LA but the quality was not what I expected. I returned that computer and decided to purchase this model. I am beyond thrilled with this purchase. The graphics are high quality and the computer runs very fast. I had an instance when the coloring on the screen went dark with a green tint after turning the computer back on from sleep mode, but it went away after a minute and has not happened again.

I like it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this computer for about 3 months. I have not had any problems. I love having the backlit keys. It came with Windows 8 installed, but I was able to update to Windows 10 for free. After having a touch screen computer, I will never go back to a standard screen. I like being able to touch the screen for a quick movement even while I'm in keyboard mode.

Runs like a gem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fast and quiet, never gets hot. Also the touch screen is really convenient. I don't really flip it and use it as a tablet but i do use the touch screen option quite a bit. It really annoys me when i then have to use a non touch screen laptop.

Great dynamic computer, especially for students
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this computer for over a month and I absolutely loved it! As a grad student, I liked how convenient it was to study in multiple settings and manage images. The overall design and setup seemed very intuitive. However, in the past week my computer has completely frozen multiple times in a day and I have had to restart it with the power button (which is unusually small and hard to push). Even after running anti-virus software it was still crashing. I've also noticed that sometimes I'll lose my wifi signal even when I have full wifi on my phone. Maybe mine is an anomaly, but just be warned that it has potential for glitches. Overall, though, I'd highly recommend this computer.

There are lemons in this ASUS laptop model!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased an ASUS Q502LA on 8-15-15. I was very happy with it--it seemed to be great machine; built solid, but lightweight, and I had no problems setting it up (& my husband has had an ASUS for 3 years with no problems and the company has a good reputation for its computers). It's a fast machine with some nice qualities, one being the backlit keyboard. I hadn't tried the tablet feature yet, so I'm not sure how that part worked, but everything else was great. I was very happy with my purchase. During my third week of use, the electrical/power cord quit supplying power and/or charging the machine. A warning windows popped up that said something to the effect of "power cord plugged in, but not charging." I tried moving it around to 4 different electrical outlets (didn't help), rebooting the machine several times--all to no avail. I did some research and found that this particular problem seems to crop up with some ASUS laptops. I took it back to Best Buy. The Geek Squad people I dealt with were wonderful. They tried a rebooting the computer and using a different charger--nothing worked. It still wouldn't charge. They exchanged the computer for me, since I had it for such a short time period, and I was very thankful. They were perplexed as I was about why the laptop quit charging. When I said I had never seen this type of thing happen before, the young man who helped me made a comment that he had seen computers (not necessarily the ASUS brand) come out of the box new that wouldn't even turn ont. It turns out to be a prophetic statement. I took my new ASUS laptop home, unpacked it, plugged it in, and it won't turn on. The laptop is gettting power, as we can see the green pwer light, and we left it plugged in for 4 hours, hoping that maybe the battery was low and it just needed charging. That's not the case. Still no go. A few of the lighs on the keys turn on for a few second, then the machine abruptly turns back off. Holding down on the power switch for at least 10-15 seconds does not help. Now I'll have to go back to Best Buy and return this unit. Aparently, there are some lemons in this ASUS model line. I would steer clear of this computer, based on my experiences, and I've never had either of these 2 issues come up in my lifetime of working on computers. Very strange.

Great Computer But....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great computer but learned the hard way how not to open. If you open notebook by lifting from a corner of the screen, the flexing will create a vertical crack from top to bottom of screen which will affect touch screen performance. Had the screen repaired to the tune of $310. My recommendation: buyer beware or make sure to get Geek Squad insurance? Ironically, our son has a different version of Asus and no issue.

Great Touch Screen laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decided to upgrade from a 10" to bigger, more storage laptop. Had the ASUS on smaller one, and couldn't believe the running time before recharging. This bigger 15.6" has proven to be excellent. Can run for 8 hrs and only takes appx 1 hr to recharge. The processor speed is fantastic. Had no problems getting set up, and upgrading to the Windows 10. Doesn't come with CD/DVD so order the LG DVD writer for about $32. Can handle a number of programs at once without slowing down. Also speed is great even at 10% charge left. I have been very pleased with the performance of the ASUS brand. Even ordered an open box one. Can't beat the price!

Good laptop but not great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop will get you through doing what you need to do with the Intel i5 processor. There is plenty of RAM to do just about anything a moderate user will use this laptop for (IE: movies, light browser gaming, office productivity). This thing is also sporting 3 USB (one quick charge), one HDMI and even an RJ45 (Thank you for not taking that away from me). Touch screen is good enough to use but not the best around. Of course with the touch screen there is a rather substantial glare on the screen in most lights. This laptop stays rather cool even after long uses without having an overly loud fan running at all times. Now down to the real issues: The hard drive is majorly subpar so far. Giving this laptop halfway decent specs in everything then throwing in a 5400 rpm hard drive is a terrible idea. Mine is constantly reaching disk read cap during boot up and even during some moderate to high level usages. I would like to pull it and put a SSD in but if you ever want to pull a warranty claim on this laptop it has to be all original (which I may do anyway because this is a major problem at this point). You're also more likely to hear this hard drive running even over the fan and cooling system running. Issue two is the hinge of the laptop feeling under par. When the laptop is closed and you're carrying it with the hinge side in your hand while under arm, then the hinge feels hollow and cheap. It will move around quite a bit. Thankfully I haven't dropped this laptop yet. I'm not sure the hinge would take a drop very well at all.

Sluggish, hard to see keyboard in the dark
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a little disappointed with this one. It is *much* lighter than the huge gamer i was retiring and that is a plus. Holding that in your lap with your feet up really does a number on your knees.... but I digress. I got this basically to do email and surf the web and it works for that But I've noticed that if I have a lot of browser tabs open, the machine is really sluggish and I seem to tax the graphics card (as evidenced by a fleeting line through photographs when a page first comes up) Also, and this is a big design flaw IMO, the silver aluminum chicklet keys are not readable (despite being backlit) under normal usage (sitting in my lap and viewed from that angle) The silver blends too well with the backlight and I can't see what is what. It makes for lots of typos and corrections. The cursor gets "lost" too often and requires that I make a concerted effort to locate it. The touchpad is directly in the center of the keyboard. To me, it would be a better design if it were off to one side or the other. I'm right handed, and I've lost track of how many times I thought I was left clicking on a link or whatever, only to find that my hand is on the right side of the touchpad. The touchscreen is both a blessing and a curse. I've closed out the browser way too many times trying to show something to the person next to me. Grab the edge of the screen to reposition the laptop and Poof. It's closed. Lastly, I lost the cursor entirely when I went from keyboard to tablet and back. Had to reboot the machine to get it back.

Good starter laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Laptop is a good starter laptop. Its good for a little family computer But If you are looking to be spending lots of time on this for work school etc.. I would recommend going up a little bit. I would say get a mac book pro. Even if its an older model to make it more affordable. They run very seamlessly and can get the job done with great quality! None the less this Asus is a decent laptop for the price.
