Excellent alternative for a Desktop Computer

Our ASUS notebook is a great substitute to a desktop computer. We don't have much room for a computer, so having the notebook has been great for my husband and I. Startup is a dream, as is shutdown; it happens so fast! The touch screen is a nice to have, but not really necessary for us. The built-in touch-pad mouse is also great as a space saver. The amount of storage space on the hard drive is a must for our purposes. We download a lot of photographs and it is nice to have the space to store them at our fingertips. We are so happy with the ASUS product.

In my eye, I feel ASUS is one of the top 3 Laptop providers. This laptop was easy to setup and has a lot to offer. With the Touch Screen, 12GB of RAM and a TB of hard drive space; you don't need much more. It is a 2 in 1 laptop. That means to me you can take the monitor to the back of the laptop and it doubles as a tablet or to watch video. When doing this the keyboard is deactivated until you pull the screen from the base. I really like this laptop for the normal to high end user. I recommended this laptop to a friend and he loved it too!

This laptop has exceeded my expectations. IT preforms flawlessly, I can stream 1080p video with multiple other tabs open with no problems what so ever. I've used it for some gaming and it can run at moderate levels fairly well. Overall for a 2-in-1 laptop you'd be hard pressed to find a better one for the money.

Laptop has pretty much everything on it you could ask for; newest processor, excellent graphics card, 1TB hard drive, 12GB memory, dvd player, full HD touch screen display and more. Great overall laptop and ASUS is one of the best brands. I purchased an ASUS like this a little over a year ago for my daughter for college and haven't had any issues with it.

This is my second Asus laptop and both have worked flawlessly out of the box. The ability to use it as a laptop, tablet or in a "tent" position when doing presentations has been perfect. The speed is great although I plan to replace the HDD with a SSD to make it even faster. Battery life for my use (heavy) has been about 5 hours. Overall, very pleased!

I opted for the open box deal. It was literally never touched and got a GREAT deal. The touch screen is a novelty at best. The laptop is too large to use as a tablet and many programs and websites are not compatable with the touch screen. It is fast and this is where the not as great comes in. For a 6th gen i7 and 12gb of ram the 1tb 5400rpm sata hard drive does it no favors it is not slow by any means but it is not as powerful as you would think. I can run Photoshop, Word, and Multipule browser tabs at the same time. I have had a few issues. Today it froze completely for no reason I was not running anything strenuous. Once restarted manually my USB ports stopped working and after about 20 minutes they started working again. After reinstalling mouse and adapter drives on its own. The case is sturdy and the keyboard is good, I enjoy the backlighting. It never gets hot regardless of what I am running. Overall a great laptop for the price but I really wish it had a faster hard drive.

I have now been using the ASUS Q552UB for about 5 weeks so I think I have enough experience to provide a useful review. I selected this laptop after extensive online and in-store research as I thought it provided the best balance of performance, usability, and value. My prior laptops have all been from Dell and Compaq so this is my first ASUS. Have never owned a laptop that converts to a tablet so that is a new experience for me and I like that flexibility. Some of my experience in adjusting to this new laptop is related to newness of Windows 10 since previously I had used Win 7 but that transition is quite easy. Please note that my primary uses are for working with Office documents (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), heavy CPU and memory intensive modeling, video editing, and playing music. I did go into Best Buy to purchase this laptop on sale and I was not interested in letting a sales rep try to sway my opinion to some thing else.
First some comments on some dislikes I have encountered. First, it has been a bit frustrating adjusting to new keyboard layout with keys in different positions. Although the power transformer is reasonably small it does stick out from outlet on wall or would cover 2 outlets if plugged into a power strip. I experienced a couple screen freezes early on which I suspected were related to outdated video drivers. Was very easy to download newer drivers from ASUS support site which has completely resolved the problem. I am a traditional mouse user so I don't use the track pad when in laptop mode. But at first I did not know how to deactivate the trackpad which I periodically inadvertantly touched while typing which could move cursor to another part of document. Well I soon discovered it is very easy to activate/deactivate trackpad with Fn f9. Although I really like the all aluminum casing, I found that my wrists got cold when typing for a while since they are resting on the cold aluminum (yes I keep my house cool in winter). My work around is to put a thin rubber sheet down to rest my wrists on. I do not expect this will be an issue in spring through fall since house is much warmer. The last downside from my perspective is hard disk speed. To me it is clear that the primary bottleneck in performance on this laptop is HD speed. I may consider in future upgrading to a SSD.
OK now for the pluses. The screen resolution and clarity are great. HD videos are awesome. Easy to adjust brightness of screen again with a Fn key combination. Really like the lighted keyboard and the lighting intensity is adjustable. At first I was skeptical of this little subwoofer supplied with laptop but it makes music directly from laptop much richer. Most of the time I pipe my custom online radio stations through out the house by a wireless transmitter plugged into the headphone jack which works fantastic. Disconnecting all wire connections (USB, HDMI, ethernet, subwoofer, etc) and folding in half is a quick transition to tablet mode which I am learning to really like. It automatically switches to wireless connection through router. Of course it is a pretty big screen for a tablet but it is actually great if you are working with high resolution video or apps. It is a bit heavy for a tablet but it works beautifully. Lastly latest generation i7 CPU, 12Gb memory, and 1Tb HD provide more than enough performance for my current needs and flexibility for running more packages and even multitasking some in the future.
Overall I am very pleased with this laptop so far. I have been able to address, resolve or adjust to all the downsides mentioned above, The pluses more than outweigh all the downsides. I would give this laptop a 4.5 if non-integer ratings were possible. But I have no reservation in rounding that up to a 5.

I'm really happy with this laptop. It has a lot of good features like the fact that it is a 2-in-1, so it has a touch screen and you don't have to worry about breaking the laptop when you bend it back too far. It also has a great sound system, and it's packed with great internal memory, a good processor and graphics card. I highly recommend this laptop. The only thing that kind of sucks is the fact that the resolution on the screen makes most websites a lot smaller if you're using chrome. The touchscreen can also be pretty finicky and precise when you're trying to click something. Other than that I haven't really ran into any other problems. The brushed-metal finish is really nice looking, although it does get prints on them easily, but it comes with a cloth that you can easily clean this. Keyboard lights up. It's really great. Internally and externally and definitely a bang for your buck.

We needed a new laptop. The last one we purchased was an ASUS and we love it so we got this 2 in 1 Windows 10 model. We are glad we got it. We like that there is a CD drive. We are also impressed with the features this laptop comes with such as the touchscreen 2 in 1 Tablet, 6 Gen I-7 processor, the large 1 TB hard drive, the 12GB of memory, the dedicated 2 GB of dedicated Graphics memory and 3 USB 3.0 ports.
This laptop functions as a desktop replacement so the backlit keys and the number keypad are features we also wanted. The speaker quality is pretty good. The laptop comes with this little round speaker which we are still testing out. We like having a touch screen and Windows 10 is an improvement. So far we are very pleased with this laptop.

I love the feel of the keyboard, and that it doesn't come with a lot of extra applications I'll never use (HP), but the battery life is very unimpressive. I also wish it had the hard drive separated so that it's easier to reinstall operating system software.

Had an immediate need for a replacement laptop. I also wanted to have good storage and speed capability to handle download and processing of photographs. It has already turned out to be a great product and meets all of my needs. Best Buy Geek Squad and sales personnel were extremely helpful.

This computer was purchased for my 15-year as a Christmas present. Uses with Steam account for online gaming. Easily attaches the XBox 360 controller, purchased a wired gaming mouse, which adds to the gaming experience. The Touch screen is just a nice added feature that you typically don't see in gaming computers - but is a plus for homework, and web surfing.

This laptop is very versatile and runs every program I require it to with relative ease. It's not marketed as a gaming computer, but it comes with a 2GB Nvidia graphics card. This coupled with 12GB of RAM allows this machine to run most games with decent graphics settings. This computer is also well suited for coding. The hardware is fairly sturdy and does everything it needs to do.
The only con is that the ASUS smart gesture application that allows for two finger scrolling is somewhat finicky and doesn't like to boot up until the computer has been on for a few minutes sometimes. Also, the touchpad clicking function is not good for gaming. But, a cheap wireless mouse solves these problems.
Overall, this is a great computer and well worth the money.

took some getting use to a 2 in 1. After learning the setting and interface you will find it very handy. Not too heavy, nice resolution for the screen. The look is very appealing to me. Graphics for games is good unless streaming a large game from your xbox one. it will lag a little. If i had to make an choice on laptops again I would still pick this one. Price is high but you get a lot for what you pay for. Down side is when burning a cd to the computer like most laptop the disc driver rattles a little. If the disc driver was blu-ray capable instead of standard driver that would be nice. Spend another 70 to 100 bucks if you want a blu-ray driver on the computer. What is the point in a Hd screen on a laptop without a built in blu-ray player or better driver.

After torturing myself with a Toshiba, I found this gem. Asus is highly regarded by all of the associates at Best Buy, and I am now sold. I am not a techie, by any means, so I can not give tech specs or any meaningful data in that vein, all I can do is report how the machine works..
So for me this is a great machine for the money. It is fast and responsive, the touch screen works well, quick to boot up and shut down, doesn't freeze, doesn't crash and stays connected to the router (all Toshiba issues)..
I guess the best hing I can say about this machine is that I get on and start working or playing and I do not worry about anything computer related. It just works the way it is supposed to.

This computer will be, and has so far been, a great fit for my real estate needs. I love the touch screen, it's speed, and the ease to get around in Windows 10. I upgraded from Vista, and tried to upgrade to Windows 8 three years ago, which sent me back up my old computer! So glad I waited till now!

This laptop has pretty much everything you'll need to get stuff done. Super fast WiFi screen casting and a DVD player burner if you're looking for that kind of thing. I had to return it be cause the screen went blank after trying to install a USB to VGA adapter. Seriously thinking of getting another one. For what it does for the price can't beat it. Get it on sale though $1000. Is a bit much

This laptop looks great from every angle. It is fast and performs as expected. The screen folds back and turns into a tablet with touch screen which is nice for certain situations. I would recommend it for anyone in the market for a sleek laptop with great performance.
