This PC is horrible, and I'm sorry I purchased anything powered by Microsoft.. I'll but Apple products from now on , I learned my lesson the hard way with frustration of the piece of garbage shutting down and rebooting on it's own while you are online on a important tele-conference call and various other issues ! Asus is a horrible product..

Pros: - POWERFUL PC - STUNNING SCREEN DISPLAY LIKE WOW - GREAT BACK-LIT KEYBOARD WITH 3 levels of brightness! - Tablet mode is cool as well - It's like buying a 2500 macbook pro for less than half the price Cons - Kinda heavy (because its made out of metal) but pro to that is it's always cold on outside for forearms Quick tip: When you turn on PC it's set to dim screen mode..which detects the amount of light there is in a room and changes accordingly to give you enough brightness on screen and maximize battery life. if you don't care and want to view crisp, amazing, bright detailed images, just press the FN key plus A...

    Amazing Laptop!

Wow is all I have to say about this laptop. This thing is so fast with the intel core i7 processor, there is nothing it can't handle. The screen is crisp and vibrant and is better than any laptop screen I have ever owned. Laptops usually do not have good quality audio but the sound quality is absolutely amazing on this laptop (as long as the external subwoofer that comes with the laptop is plugged in). The keyboard has 3 levels of backlight and is quite nice to type on. The keys do seem to be spaced far apart, but that could be because I am use to typing on a Microsoft Surface Pro keyboard. The metal finish on this computer gives it a premium look and feel. The NVIDIA graphics card is capable of playing modern games at medium graphics settings. I originally purchased an HP Envy x360 but I was forced to return it twice because the screen had backlight bleeding on both of them. Not to mention the HP laptop was also poorly put together and the screen was crooked on both of the HP laptops I returned. No such issues with this Asus Q552. This laptop is of such amazing quality I do not think I will ever buy a different brand other than ASUS again. Wonderful laptop and worth every penny. This computer is a gem and you will not regret purchasing it. Way to go ASUS!

Dissapointingly slow for the price, processor, and memory advertised. Space bar sticks. Video frequently goes to black screen and restarts, though this has improved somewhat since a Windows 10 update. Browser freezes and have to go to reboot to fix. And Best Buy response to these problems would be a negative star if that were possible.

Great laptop, just be careful with the subwoofer

Be careful with plugging in and taking out the subwoofer, When I unplugged my subwoofer the plug broke, and I was gentle with it. Other than that, this a great laptop, the speed is great, the touch screen is responsive, and the 360 degree hinge makes this the best. GTA V runs flawlessly, the keyboard is one of the best, and surprisingly the trackpad is extremely well designed. Just be extremely careful with unplugging and plugging in the subwoofer and you've got one heck of an awesome laptop. :)

Great specs, keyboard and touchpad still need work

I've been prepared to replace my dying macbook pro for the past year or so and have been researching possible replacements for quite some time, knowing that another MBP is not in my financial future. I've had variations of this laptop on my short-list for a while, having had a number of Asus products (mostly tablets that seemed more experimental in nature), and prior to that using Asus motherboards in my desktops. So I knew what to expect from Asus when finally buying this computer a few weeks ago. The only other laptop on my short-list was a Toshiba with a UHD screen, but with less options than this laptop, and for quite a bit more money, so I decided that HD was good enough and went for it. Here is my experience after about a month of use. The specs of this laptop are amazing for the price. Everything from ethernet port to dvd drive is available, enough USB ports, nice quick i7 chip and dedicated video card, all under $1k. Not bad for starters. So far the computer itself has been great, no video problems, no speed or access problems, and I get a good 4 hours or more from the battery while on wifi (haven't officially tested how long, this is just a guess). The screen is gorgeous, bright, and nice to look at. Side by side with my old macbook pro, they look like very similar creatures, well built, nice to handle, and the touchscreen and flip/tablet options are awesome (especially for reading sheet music). Other owners report sound that appears to be coming from the hard drive. I get this too. My guess is that the metal body is amplifying the sound of the hard drive. My only worry about it is that occasionally the hard drive clicks, which *could* signify a hard drive problem, but I've tested the hard drive and it doesn't seem to be having issues, plus it is a light click not a heavy one, and therefore seems to confirm the amplification theory, as all regular hard drives have moving parts, and moving parts make noise as a matter of course. The sound doesn't really bother me overall, it's not that loud, and if I have music playing or a cat purring in my lap I can't even hear it. At some point I may replace the hard drive with an SSD which should make the sound go away altogether, but since it doesn't bother me I'm not running out to do it. I get that Asus didn't automatically use an SSD in this laptop in order to keep the price down, but they should really offer this as an option. So now the bad. First, the trackpad, as there really is no excuse for it. It's not horrible, but haven't we progressed past the days of fumbling around to click with a super hard press, and trackpads picking up things that didn't happen? For casual use the trackpad is fine, but if you're doing any fine mousing work it gets really annoying. It isn't as bad as some others I've tried, but that is no excuse. I really expected it to be as good as my old macbook's trackpad and keyboard (with the bonus of the right click button and the delete key lol). Then the keyboard. It's not as bad as the trackpad, but it really should be better. Having tracked this machine for a while, I was glad that unlike the previous model, this new model did not have the glaring white keys. These are really nice backlit black keys with a beautiful soft touch--not too soft--and I am super-picky about the touch on a keyboard. I was even able to buy a silicon cover for them similar to what I had for my macbook, which is amazing help keep the cat hair out of the keyboard. They also fit a lot of great stuff into the keyboard, including a full number pad. BUT...why do I have to press the Fn key anytime I want to use the media keys? If I want to increase sound, I *have to* use both hands, as the Fn key is located at the bottom left and the volume key is on the F12 at top right. There seems to be no option to set them permanently to media keys (as other laptops have this option either in the bios or in software) or to reverse the Fn (ie. use the Fn key for the lesser used functions and be able to use volume without the function key). Overall, I don't think you could do better than this machine for the price. I gave this laptop 5 stars, but it really should be 4.5...taking a whole star away for the trackpad and keyboard seemed a little extreme, although really, Asus, you've made this model for long enough that you should not have these issues. Oh, well. Still an amazing value for the money.

    Good Power for the Price

I bought this as a work computer to run Excel and SPSS (a statistics package) and other things for work. An i7 processor and 12gb of ram was a pretty good deal by the numbers. The 5400rpm hard drive is a little slow, but it's adequate for my needs as a work computer. Keyboard is okay, not fantastic. The numbers keypad has narrow keys. Not sure if I like that, since I actually do use the numbers keypad. I don't like the power adapter. The design is pretty poor. First, the cord is very short. Unlike other laptops I've had (4) the power adapter doesn't rest on the floor. It's actually attached to the plug. Depending on your wall mount, it covers two outlets because you will often have to use the top outlet (which also covers the bottom outlet). If the outlets are not flush with the wall, the bottom heavy adapter will pull itself out of the socket. The bottom half of the adapter must rest flush with the wall or else it can't be plugged in, which is a serious design flaw. I deducted 1-full star for it. Again, the rating is in context of what this product is, a value power buy. An i7 with 12gm or RAM at $850 is a good deal, but the terrible design of the power adapter limits your ability to plug in wherever you go.

    Great laptop with minor cons

I bought this before any reviews were posted here after checking an older model in the store. I bought ASUS based on a close relative's strong recommend and also a recommendation from the sales staff. I've had the ASUS for almost two weeks and am quite happy with it. I gave it 5 stars because it is generally excellent. I would really have rated it 4.5 so far if it had been possible. While I do travel some I wanted a 15 inch machine since it's desktop most of the time and I prefer the larger screen, keypad and optical disk. The screen is great with high definition. There is a problem using the Chrome browser because of the higher resolution, but I'm convinced its a google problem and not a laptop fault and possibly a fault on any higher def screen. In chrome the pages don't display quite right and the page tabs and menu bar are quite small. I've found no solution online. The MS Edge browser works fine. The trackpad is less sensitive and granular than I'm used to. I've tried all adjustments. Also as I scroll it will occasionally back float. Annoying. I'm also having to adjust to two finger scrolling. My previous machines were one finger or adjustable to one or two. Less flexibility in trackpad options than my old toshiba or HP. Disappointing in a higher end pc. Also the OS will not accept a change to set the number lock "on" upon start-up. The keypad was a major consideration for me. Annoying to have to set it each start up. I like the touchscreen and W-10. Both are learning curves for me coming from W-7 machines. Nice speakers and a separate plug in small woofer that complements them esp for when you're watching video or listening to music. Battery life seems good.

In December 2015, I found myself needing to replace my 5 year old Toshiba laptop. After exploring all the options for tablets and 2-in-1's, I decided to purchase the Q552U on Christmas Eve as it was the best option for my work and relaxation needs. Several reviews stated slow startup and poor performance, but I have been extremely pleased with the speed and performance of this laptop. The 15.6 touch screen is very reactive and has great resolution. I also really like having a full keyboard. I would highly recommend this laptop!

    Contant right static crackling sound

I really want to love this computer. I waited patiently for the release. Within the last two weeks I have tried this computer model twice. Both units has this noticeable crackling sound coming from the right side of the computer. This sound is constant even without any programs open or without any Internet use. I noticed that this was prevalent with the previous 5th generation model as well as with this brand new 6th generation model. This sound is also noticeable on the Best Buy floor model. Correspondence with Asus.com states that the computer should not have this sound and that there have been no complaints of this. (Google indicates differently). Best Buy Geek Squad states if this is the hard drive then bring it back. There should never be a sound coming from the hard drive (which by the way is located on the right). This is not a fan running. It's a crackling somewhat annoying sound when you have been use to the other computer brands that have not had this sound (Sony, HP).Best Buy Geek Squad states if this sound has been heard on the two 6th generation model computers I have tried and also o. the store floor model, it could be a defect with entire model. They further stated if this sound has been heard with previous Asus models then this could be indicative to the Asus brand.BUT Asus denies this. HAS ANY ONCE NOTICED THIS SOUND? I really want to love this computer. It has a lite keyboard, number keypad, CD drive. Specifications are great. Battery is good. However, do not want this sound to be a bigger issue after warranty has expired. Also not sure if the sound will not ultimately irritate me when working in complete silence. Honest review.

Very fast laptop. the only thing we do not like is it shows fingerprints really bad. Windows 10 is running good on this system. I will never buy nothing buy asus when it comes to laptops; i have had very good luck with them. I can not speak for their customer support because I never had to use them. You can't go wrong getting this laptop. 12 gigs of memo with a 6th Gen Intel i7-6500U was a selling point for me. I was reading some posts of this laptop making some kind noise, we do not have any noise coming from ours. If it makes noise send it back for a differnent one; very simple!

Graphics not right for older programs!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Well first I don't use it for gaming but it seemed to be a good deal at the time. I also purchased a ASUS x540s (another 15 inch laptop but much much cheaper) at the same time for a backup. When I loaded my old programs and the newest version of open office on the 2 new computers they don't look right on the Asus 552. The font edges are blurring and it just doesn't look good. Amazingly they look great on the cheaper X540s.....go figure, huh. Some programs are fine like chrome, ie, edge, ect. and it has a really nice display for pictures. I tried every setting possible and even had the Geek Squad look at it but I was told that older programs have a hard time displaying on the new high resolution graphics. I don't really believe that as they work fine on the x540s laptop but am resigning to the fact (and tired of trying) they are just not going to look very good on the 552. Personally I believe that with the proper scaling, programs that looked good on my old 17 inch laptops should look great on a high resolution 15 inch, but that is just my thinking. One other thing that bothered me is the fact that the power cords are not interchangeable...two ASUS 15 inch laptops bought at the same time and have different power cord sizes.....come on, really you couldn't make them the same? A few nice things: It is pretty fast, and the back lit keyboard is GREAT, love it! So if you are planning on loading older programs you may want to save the extra money and buy the cheap one, they display better on it, but it is slightly slower.

impressed yet annoyed by the 'noise'

I am impressed with the specs and it does look good. Lightweight and thin! I am loving Windows 10. It's way faster than my 5-yr old MacBook Pro. Anyways, I am having the same "noise" problems as the others have indicated. It can be annoying at times. Considering the noise alone, I can accept it however, it concerns me that it may cause something serious later on. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem with ASUS before and if so, was it just about the noise and no hardware issues? Thank you!

I bought this laptop 2 days ago, the laptops seems to have a great build quality and specs. The touchscreen works smoothly and speakers are good. If screen looks dim, turn off the adaptive brightness in the settings. I want to love this laptop, but have had two issues so far: 1.Weird noise from the right part of laptop which I guess is the HDD, this worries me about the QC! I am not sure how serious that is, but certainly not acceptable for a laptop at this price. 2.The max battery level is at 99% and it does not go up to 100% when plugged in. It is plugged in and not charging, not sure if it's a software issue but it is weird, Anyone has the same issue? I am not sure if the battery is defective or not. I would not recommend this product to anyone until making sure these problems are not serious.
