Had a Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 and it died about 3 months in. Decided on this one after reading the reviews on CNET and on the Best Buy website. So far, it is bulletproof. Very reliable, no weird drops. Excellent coverage in my home, by have two extenders to ensure good connection anyway. Highly recommend this after a poor Netgear experience with the router and wifi extenders.

Used as second mesh router. Setup was easy once I followed the instructions precisely and removed the direct cable connection to the main mesh router when instructed. Once online it has been stable and problem free. Has added high speed ISP communication throughout my house. I run multiple devices and nothing slows down while downloading or streaming.

Excellent router for an apartment

I got this wifi router because I live in a crowded apartment building, and my old b/g/n router (2.4Ghz) was very slow due to interference. With 802.11a (5Ghz) I now get actual speeds that I pay for (50Mbps). This model may be a bit overkill for my small apartment, but the speed is amazing. Also, after owning this for a few months, I have never had to reset it, which is great.

Bought this router solely for it's advanced features that few other consumer level routers have, and frankly, everyone should use. Replaced a perfectly good Apple AirPort Extreme that served me well, but it's simplicity prevented advanced setup and Apple's rumor of getting out of the router business with no future models, it became time to move on. Setup hint - use same network name and password and most devices automatically recognized the Asus and set themselves up. I specifically got this router for the integrated VPN (Virtual Private Network) and supporting DDNS features. I am actually typing this review in Europe which works fine directly, but now have a secure channel that suggests I am in Florida. What mandated the change was setting up a security camera system and need for remote access, but benefits go far beyond that. The VPN provides private access to personal accounts - such as your financial accounts - from viewing eyes and intercepts. All you need is a host to access then internet and have activated the VPN from work and other public areas such as Starbucks. Another benefit, if I want to watch an NFL game or other TV programming that is blocked where I am but available online at home...guess what...they think I am at home. Now you see why everyone should have this feature supported in every router, but this is one of the few.
Weakness - Documentation, both in the manual and online FAQ is marginal. Gives the basics of setup but how to use (which user/password is it asking for) or troubleshooting common difficulties is missing. The same can be said of others though. Had trouble with Asus internal DDNS and eventually went with a free No-IP, but it also stopped at setup, troubleshooting hinted at port forwarding but very general even when discussing the Asus router setup. Slight learning curve, but well worth it.

Super speedy connection to internet. Easy to set up to modem, internet, TV, and telephone landline service. This was recommended by a Spectrum Cable Serviceman. He was right on! Price a bit high though with tax at $180. Guess we pay for quality. My old Cisco router was purchased here as well, was efficient, priced better and lasted nearly 10 years.

Very easy to setup and has excellent coverage for a 2,700sq.ft. home. Unit was places in a corner room on the back-side of the home, and could get very good reception strength in the garage (which is in the opposite side of the front of house).

Love the ASUS wireless routers with the external antennas -- this is my second one (last one lasted for about 4 years) -- set one up at my Mom's house, as well, which is a tri-level, plus a basement, and great coverage all around -- speeds are great -- web UI is same as my last model, so I was very familiar with it -- setup took just a few mins

This is the second ASUS router that I've owned. They are quality products. Simple to setup. Numerous basic features for novice users to have a good home network. Good advanced features for an more experienced consumer that can better secure and adjust the network. Overall a great home router or even for a small business.

My sound company uses wireless routers for connecting an iPad to a digital mixing board. We need a router that is extremely stable and that has an extended range. We have 3 ASUS routers in this product family, all of which have surpassed my expectations. It was very easy to set up, and I highly recommend this one. Well worth the price.

Upgraded a old net gear to this.
LOVE it!!!
5G is fast and set up is easy.
Went from hardlined at 25mps to 93mps download.
Went from wifi 10mps to 65mps.
Very easy to set up and change settings. It pushes the wifi 60 feet easy through old horsehair and plaster walls.
Looks cool and works great at a consumer friendly price.

This replaced an older Asus RTN56U. I cannot say anything bad about the Asus line of routers. They are fast, reliable and handle everything thrown at them. I miss being able to put custom firmware (ddwrt) on my devices a but the Asus' haven't really needed the custom firmware due to their stability. It checks all the boxes.

I bought this router to replace the one I was renting from Time Warner Cable. It is much faster and has a range that blankets my 3500 SF house. The previous modem/router was pretty spotty in areas other than the main level.
