Very nice motherboard. Flashy too, if you're into that. Good IO, all the ports you would expect, then some more, as well as a nice design and compatibility with basically every AMD CPU you would pick if you're buying a 400 dollar motherboard. A bit on the expensive side, but probably worth it if you're considering it

been using this board with a ryzen 9 3900x and an ASUS ROG strix rtx 2080ti and this is about as top of the line as i would go as far as asus boards, this is the board to get. it shares the same VRM setup as the X570 formula which is over double the price. chipset fan is almost non existent and you will never hear it over your case fans even if it does come on. post codes and debug LED's are great features as well as a clear cmos button on the rear IO panel. speaking of IO, this thing has more usb ports than you would even know what to do with, i think 12 in total if i remember correctly. 1 gig and 2.5 gig lan are great, audio is great. only issue i had was using my corsair MP600 gen4 nvme drive i was required to remove the heat spreader which removes the mounting hole for the cover over the chipset fan, but no really a big issue! the RGB on the board isn't super bright either, but it is visible and looks pretty good.

For a CPU with a high quantity of cores, looking for a motherboard with proper voltage conditioning for smooth power and stability becomes essential. This is a great board to get for such conditioning.
Some say this model is overkill, but for the VRM and capacitor count, I'd disagree -- at least for something as beefy as a Ryzen 5950X that has 16 CPU cores allowing 32 threads. For a lower-end model, I would readily agree this board is excessive. But having more cores means more complexity and sensitivity to voltages, so it's not just for stability but longevity that this board can be of value.
CPU installation is a breeze.
There is a plastic shroud over the metal heatsinks. These are hard to see and may be mistaken as scratches when they're not. Please remove these before use!
The m.2 slots are nice, and I had no problems inserting both of mine - of which one had a heatsink and the other hadn't. The slot covers include sticky thermal tape that isn't too sticky, just enough to ensure contact for heat transference. But note that the main slot's cover also covers a mounting screw hole. That's a downer, but it's not a major one.
All default BIOS settings are okay for most users, but I disabled the PBO and other related core settings to PREVENT automatic overclocking. What it can do with default 3.4GHz speed at 100W usage is already phenomenal, and IMHO, the AMD 5950x does not need to overclock and the system will run cooler and use less energy in turn. I did an out-of-the-box settings comparison between BIOS defaults and then disabling PBO, ran a test, recorded times:
A benchmark demo for a 3D rendering program called Terragen, which renders a 1280x720 complex canyon and mountainscape) takes 4 minutes 37 seconds using this CPU - which uses a tad over 100 watts to compensate. After disabling PBO, which is enabled as default, processing took 5 minutes 07 seconds and stayed at 100w as expected. Both scores are phenomenal. but the 6% gain isn't really worth it for static imagery. If one is rendering motion video CGI, then it might be of help. But 6% is something to extrapolate on. Given that the OOTB settings won't harm the system, it's okay either way - especially if you have high-end cooling and I noticed Best Buy sells liquid coolers from brands I've known for years. (NZXT Kraken), which made buying a bundle an easy - it was nice to schedule a pick-up as well and, yeah, the prices are competitive. This isn't meant to sound like an ad, BB expanding into PC parts has been a boon and I'm very happy and appreciative - thank you!
Back to my comparison render: Now let's compare against my 7.25-year-old previous computer (Haswell-E 6-core CPU) being retired. This CPU needs 150 watts on its own, the same benchmark render took 15 minutes 51 seconds. That's bad already; requiring 50% more power to finish the same render in thrice to time. Wow. Now, I generally don't overclock but as this old PC was to be recycled, I temporarily upped its frequency and voltage requirement and did a new test, going from its default 3.4ghz speed to 4.2ghz. Sounds beefier than the 5950 now, right? Nope/ The new test render on the old system took 10 minutes 15 seconds -- still twice the time of the new AMD, but power usage was a horrific 180w, which is almost double that of AMD 5950x's. That's astonishing. The AMD 5950x is a winner by a HUGE margin, for processing power AND power consumption, and no overclocking for it is needed. Now maybe I could overclock the AMD one day, if I got a higher end cooler and wanted to risk pumping voltage through it. It's honestly not worth the hassle and even to the point I just disabled it as the stock speed is already massively fast for what it does. It's genuinely that impressive.
Updating the BIOS was an easy process, which was done after installing the OS and updating all drivers for all operational and stability purposes. I'm running Windows 10 Pro but found Ubuntu Linux 22 to be compatible, but for now I'm sticking with Windows.
This board is HIGHLY recommended. The pros outweigh the cons by a huge margin. The installation quibbles are minor, and the default BIOS settings are very sound. Many don't need to deal with changing those settings, but individual requirements may vary.

Nice PCB. Has a lot of nice features that make things easy.
PROS:
Clear Cmos is great for dialing in your memory. No cover removal.
Bios is pretty much the same as other ASUS AM4 socketed MB.
Got a 5850x and this board can handle it. Solid VRMs and more option for PBO. XMP-3600 worked right out of the box with this processor. Corsair LPX-3600C18. Plenty of USB ports, Solid GPU connectors. Plenty of FAN plugs. Board is Rock Solid. Have a NVME980, 3 SSD drives, (2) 1TB drives, (1)256GB. RTX3070 and Seasonic 850W PSU. Great board for fine tuning PBO setups for Overclocking.
Bios flashback is a big plus. Haven't had to use it yet but nice to know its there.
CONS:
IF you used PCIE Slot 1 your GPU covers the SB570 Fan. Poor design. Spins fast and is noticeable.
Memory slots have one Hold-Down Clip instead of two, Why not (2) like the other MBs.
Need a cable plug for USB 3.2 Gen 2 for front panel.

The best of the best. Read the reviews on any reputable tech site, and believe the hype. This board is very fast, feature rich, and stable. Runs my Ryzen 5600X like a champ. ASUS has crappy support, IF you ever need it. But most of the time you do not, and they make far superior products compared to other manufacturers.

This motherboard is exceptional. This was my first PC build and I went pretty high quality on everything and this is a high quality mobo. Once i got it I got everything installed and it posted first time. Perfect match for 3900x I rarely see temperatures over 60°c The max temp i ever saw was 80°c when i ran a 20 minute CPUZ benchmark test on all 24 threads and all cores. I was able to overclpck my CPU to 4325mhz without any problems and great stability no crashes at all. (I did get a little help with the OC from a buddy that has built pc since he was 10)
The setup
Ryzen 9 3900x 12 core 24thread CPU
Nzxt 360mm 73x AIO
Crosshair viii hero mobo
ASUS dual Oc Rtx 2070
Sabrent 2tb m.2 nvme 2280 SSD
Triden Z Royal 2x8gb 3600mhz 16cl
Thermaltake 850w PSU
Corsair 220t case
A total of 6 fans 3 on rad 3 exhaust
This setup is a beast. I do plan on getting a second GPU and 2 140mm fans for top exhaust

Absolutely love this mobo.. Has plenty of USB ports. The code indicator is very nice, helps make it a tad easier to figure out what issue you have during boot processes. Definitely notice a slight performance boost from my original mobo. Definitely would recommend. Comes with a booklet of cool stickers! Lol Very easy to install.

I love this thing, especially the look. Requires a BIOS update for new Ryzen 5000 series. Has USB C, RGB is also not ridiculous and looks pretty good. This is a PC luxury, people on a budget should probably stay away and go for a B550 board.

The mother board is perfect for first time PC builds like my own. It has 3 pcie16 slots making perfect for future upgrades. It also has 2 m.2 slots for the fastest and most compact memory storage possible. Assuming you will be using the m.2 slots for hard drives, it leaves you with plenty of extra Sata ports for other upgrades. The motherboard came with the perfect brackets to allow for a water cooler upgrade for any AMD CPU. there is also plenty of USB ports for any peripherals you may want to add, I have a HOTAS and peddle set up for gaming and still have plenty of extras.
The only complaint I have for this motherboard is that it is complete overkill, but absolutely worth it.

I ordered this online and had it shipped directly to my house. there was damage to a component on the board itself like it was possibly returned or damaged from factory. The start button that was soldered to the top right of the board was bent and some of the leads were broken. Being as I wasn't going to use that feature because my case has a relocated power switch, it was only a slight annoyance. The rest of the board looks great and works flawlessly. I love the rgb zones and the ASUS software lets you easily customize as you see fit. Looking back I most likely didn't need a MB this high end or fancy but hell it sure does look great in there. So many features and plenty of headroom to upgrade throughout time. I'm hoping i wont have to replace for a few years to come.

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a RTX 3070 FE last year along with a 3900x CPU. However, the board I used back then was the ASROCK B550M; not a bad board, but definitely leaves a user wanting more. Looked incredibly dwarfed in my case, too. Fast forward to getting this Crosshair; superb quality and aesthetically pleasing to the eye while also filling out a Corsair 5000D case. Yes, may be a bit overkill, but I have plans to upgrade over into a 5950X as I need the extra power for classwork and work.
