Five Star performance with Three Star caveats.

As far as performance, it is fast and gets the job done well. In gaming it performs superbly, video transcoding speeds are greet and, DirectX rendering and simulation are on par with many desktop workstations.
The keyboard fonts are clear and with or without lighting you can easily find home row.
The caveats! The track pad is not well designed to the gamer or the worker, it lacks the functionality of many other trackpads. It is not quirky, simply a poor implementation. Get a decent mouse if you want to be productive or not get fragged.
The noise level can be near jetliner from time to time (sometimes it revvvvvs up for no apparent reason) and, for the money, an optical drive would have been nice.
this is a five star product all day long until you deal with the lacking track pad and noise.

This is a great all around laptop. Awesome looks as well as performance. I love the features it has that allows you to customize many different aspects of the computer. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because of the track pad . It isnt always accurate as you may have to try a couple times to get your command right. Not a big deal if youre using it for gaming, as you will most likely use a mouse.

This is probably the tenth ASUS laptop I bought; they are all used for engineering, software development, CAD/CAM, etc. They work nice, they are robust enough not to die in an industrial environment (ok, you cant drop them). I use these to drive two external 4K monitors, plus the internal monitor; I'm not a gamer, but I've been running Flight Simulator X on the 2 external 4X monitor and it works with usable screen refresh rate.

I bought this laptop because of the 16GB memory and i-7 processor. It was worth every penny I paid! The operating system is on the solid state drive which makes it load even faster. I store all my data on the D drive to keep space free on the solid state drive. I purchased this to be able to run multiple applications at a time and it delivers.

I've had the laptop for over a year and there have been no issues. The only thing I don't enjoy is that the fan is louder than what I am used to. It's been great for Autodesk programs for Architecture. It can handle Revit, all adobe products, and renderings at a fairly decent rate. The only thing I would recommend is that if you use a lot of programs, upgrade to a larger SSD.

I got this laptop in August - within a week of having it it presented major problems. Basic tasks like right clicking on the desktop were not functioning.
If I right clicked on the desktop the mouse would show a Whirly icon for 5-20 minutes.
I showed an IT friend who warned me to exchange it for sure, he said that was a sign of serious hardware failure.
August I exchanged it but the stores don’t carry this model so I had to wait for them to order it.
Replacement seemed ok, except programs including photoshop and my video editor started constantly crashing. I wasted hundreds of hours in help forums trying to get my programs to stop crashing.
Finally in the last 2 weeks windows itself has been crashing, in a way I have never seen and I own 5 computers, I am not a novice at all.
The sign in screen would take 20 minutes to get through and I would have to force the off button and restart, then the black screen of death would appear saying windows had crashed
I spent hours backing up outlook, and uninstalling my licences of my professional photo video software so I could reset windows.
I reset windows and the fresh install is bad as ver.
Guess what? Right click windows desktop is doing what the 1st make of this computer did, and lagging for 20 minutes.
I do not want this machine repaired or replaced - I paid about $300 for the 3 year protection, I want Best Buy to replace it with a DIfFErENT model!
In 2012 I bought an Asia G75VW from Best Buy that had a faulty hard drive out of the store - asus are not properly quality testing their products. I exchanged the g75vw and 7 years later that laptop is still amazing
However the ROG STeix I have zero confidence that if Best Buy exchange or get it repaired, that I
Will get time or use out of this as it has been non stop problems for 10 months and this is the SECOND one after already exchanging a first faulty one!
I don’t want to deal with non stop drama because I unfortunately chose a dud- if the laptop worked it would be a great system but clearly Asus either tried to make the components smaller than they should be which is causing problems, or there’s a faulty chipset in all these laptops.
If bestbuy check their records they will see my precious exchange.
I have an appointment with geek squad today.
My concern is that if they make me repair or replace this same
Model I’ll be stuck with a laptop that doesn’t work, and once my 3 year protection plan is up, Best Buy won’t help me - I want this fixed now - for good - I want to swap if for a reliable model because the Asia rog strix is trash - you are speaking to somebody who has praised Asus to everyone, but the ROG strix has made me regret my loyalty

As a beginner in 3D animation this computer was exactly what I needed in order to do my work on the go. It’s processing speed is the best out there of course, but as far as laptops go I don’t think I could have found a better one that had the system requirements I need while on a budget. I highly recommend it for those who need a better machine but don’t have the budget for one of the best.

Ran well for a while, but from the start it had overheading issues, the fans gave out quickly, and the heat sink had to be repaired multiple times until the unit was finally replaced rather than repaired yet again for the same issue. From the start it overheated and smelled bad while running games, although it did run them well for a long time before having horrible issues with overheating and freezing up requiring a reboot. I don't think this is a good gaming model for hard core gamers. Researching online now showed that the overheating was a common issue for this particular model due to the design.

While my previous purchase of an Asus laptop was not so impressive, this particular unit appears to have corrected deficiencies in predecessors. (let's hope) Compared to the other units I shopped at Costco, Amazon, Walmart, and EBay. As long as the battery, charging cord and exterior hold up (unlike the prior unit) and the internals perform up to specs, this is an awesome unit, especially when I look at the costs and products out there. Make sure you use the comparison tool on Best Buy's website to see what else is there. The only steps up that I saw from this unit had faster more capable video cards, but they were (understandably) much more expensive. Wait for a good sale and pull the trigger on something comparable to this. just remember to treat your power cord and exterior with great care. These are not always very resilient in the face of wear.

I purchased this PC for video and image editing and it is a screamer. I love the combination of SSD and HD and the fact that there is an empty ram slot if I want to upgrade in the future. Good quality overall (screen, keyboard, aesthetics).
It is heavy and bulky - but it's ok, I did not buy it for "on the go".
It's a great deal for the price.

This is a fast computer though I am still having to get used to windows 10 and google chrome. I am amazed at the speed of it and think it will be all I need for a while. I do intend to upgrade to the ram to 32 gb somewhere down the line.

For the price and it’s capabilities, The ASUS ROG Strix Scar Edition is one of the best deals out there. My girlfriend and both got one so we could game together, and the laptop is capable of playing every game I have on maximum graphics settings with no slowdown whatsoever. I’ve yet to see any instances where performance is impacted because the processor and graphics card can handle everything I’ve thrown at it thus far.
