I had this laptop for about 2.5 years - it can handle everything no problem, except for high-end gaming. Overall it is a beautiful laptop, very portable. Mine ended up dieing with the Black Screen problem others in this thread have mentioned.

It is a solid Ultrabook, the only reason I give it 4 stars is the battery life, which is probably at most 4 to 6 hours. Asus can do better than that.

My daughter got this ASUS to replace another ASUS that had failed and this one failed also. This time she lost all her data so we are done with ASUS and got an HP instead.

    A Lemon of a Laptop

This laptop was purchased with the intent of it being my primary school laptop for everyday work as a student. I purchased the laptop right after release, so I had not waited for many customer reviews to come out (my fault). To cut to the point, the build quality of this laptop, being that it is advertised as a deluxe model made with top quality material, is garbage. In the year and a half that I have owned this laptop, it has given me nothing but problems. The screen stopped working after only six months of daily use, the hinges supporting the screen are broken, and keys on the keyboard are beginning to crack. In its only one and a half year life, the computer has had to be shipped back to ASUS twice, leaving me without a PC for almost a month each time. I take care with the computer, always using the provided case, putting it in a backpack with a laptop holding compartment, and cleaning regularly. To see such an expensive piece of tech perform so poorly so quickly is down right laughable. As the laptop is now out of its one year warranty, ASUS will no longer cover any repairs, and frankly does not seem to even care about the issues following multiple conversations with support. Will never buy another ASUS product again.

      Dear Bman62496,

Absolutely, it is a great primary laptop for school works. I certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last, this is a random problem. We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. This is not the quality of service expected from ASUS. We do stand behind our product and we continuously strive to improve our approach and processes in order to achieve customer service excellence. If you need more information or further assistance with the warranty for the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

    Powerful specs, bad hardware

The hardware on this machine doesn’t allow for the level of computing you would expect from these specs. It overheats constantly from simple tasks and because it is so light and thin, it very commonly doesn’t know whether or not it’s closed and so it doesn’t stay asleep and will overheat in your bag. The battery life is also very very short.

Perfect laptop if you are crazy careful!

I use this laptop for Photoshop, Illustrator and coding. I often have multiple windows open in PS and Ai and it hasn't been a problem as long as you stay under 15 windows. I bought it in the fall of 2017, and overall has worked fantastic for me. It lags a bit when I use Painter, but I think that is a Painter issue as PS and Ai work fine. I remember having some issue with the system initially, but the support phone number at ASUS was able to help me fix it, and knock on wood, it has been perfect ever since. The screen is a bit small, so an external monitor is a necessity. Although it is completely workable without it when travelling or normal browsing usage. It has 3 USB type-C ports, and 2 of them work with the mini-dock for the external monitor. The mini-dock is awesome and has a spot for the monitor cable, standard usb and another usb type-c port. I was really happy it came with it because purchasing that separately would have been a bummer. For anyone using Wacom, buying the USB c-port cord to directly plug the tablet into the computer is very convenient. The battery life is not the worst. You can put it on low battery setting for it to last longer. The programs I use tend to be battery draining, but I do not have any complaints. I also do not mind carrying the charger with me so it really hasn't been an issue. The laptop itself weighs nothing so carrying the charger is not a big deal. All this being said, I am EXTREMELY careful and VERY delicate with this computer. I got a Pelican Hardcase model 1085, which fits this computer and my medium Wacom Intuos Pro perfectly. It did come with a lovely lightly padded envelope, but tbh I feel more comfortable carrying this in the hard case. I would personally never just use only envelope and put it into a bag, but I am borderline insane and uptight with this computer. I tend to keep my computers for 10 years so... It is a super light computer which could be a negative for some people as it could slip and fall? I could see it being too delicate for most people. I also use a product called DefenderPad which is a board that protects against radiation. However it also gives more stability and grip when using it on my lap or in bed, so that helps a lot with the fragile nature of this model. This model is probably not for everyone, but suits my needs perfectly.

Black screen in six months common problem, defect?

    Posted .

This thing was beautiful and soo fast when it worked. Then after all of six months the screen went dead, and it would not even boot to BIOS. I called ASUS and gave the serial number and was told that they had no record of that number, so the machine was out of warranty until I sent proof of purchase. I found this incredibly foul, especially since the i7 8550u version had not even been selling for a year. Sent them proof of purchase, and it took them three days after receiving it to decide the computer was under warranty and issue me an RMA. ASUS, it's 2018; storage is cheap. You are running enterprise software, and you cannot keep serial number records?! What kind of middle management do you have? What do you want to be? Are there any people out there in school or running a small business on a shoestring? Imagine this delay, on top of the normal delays due to shipping and service. You know who to buy your next Windows laptop from!

    Keep looking

The screen stopped working at 15 months of owning it. This laptop gave no indication the screen would stop. It just simply stopped working. In contacting ASUS the representative showed no remorse and simply stated the laptop was 3 months over warranty. He then described the process to get it corrected. $60 for shipping and initial inspection. The ASUS rep would then determine if it is end user or a flaw to determine if the owner of the laptop will be paying an additional $700 to correct the problem. This has been an incredibly meticulously kept laptop with less than 50 hours of use on it. Very disappointing.

This laptop died (mother board and graphics card) on me after six months of using it. I would never buy another ASUS laptop again. It has been sent to ASUS for repair and it has been there for a LONG time. Not sure what is happening to it. Support team is clueless and is not even there for you. What support??? Shame on ASUS...

      Dear B555,

I do understand the inconvenience this may have caused you, your dissatisfaction with the quality of the product and your recent customer service experience. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. Usually, you will do the following to resolve the no power on or no boot issue. Try to do a power cycle a couple of times. Shut it down completely, wait for at least 10 seconds then power on. Please wait, if the system is applying updates in the System Registry, it will back screen temporarily. If it still black screen after a few minutes, at least 10 minutes, please repeat the power cycle process again. Please verify if the AC adapter was properly connected from the laptop to a working surge protector or AC outlet and the power button is being pressed all the way down to trigger a power on signal. Also, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory and reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. This is not the quality of service expected from ASUS. We do stand behind our product and we continuously strive to improve our approach and processes in order to achieve customer service excellence. If you need further assistance with the warranty service for the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.
