    Reboot issues

    Posted .

I got this phone for $89 when Best Buy had it on sale for $139, and at the same time had an additional $50 off if bundled with a new Cricket sim & top up card. My out the door price with tax was $131.70. Knowing I could sell the sim and top up card I jumped on the deal. I initially really liked the phone. It is a great size, has Oreo, and a decent camera. Overall performance was satisfactory and the battery lasted forever while I constantly played with/set it up. I spent a few days organizing and fiddling to get the phone to my liking. When I was ready, I inserted my active Tracfone AT&T sim into the card slot…and that’s when the problems started. I was able to make exactly one phone call (which was very good quality) but after that the phone kept going into an endless reboot cycle. I placed the sim in the other sim slot and the same thing occurred. When I removed the sim completely, the phone worked great. I researched the Asus forums and found that this is a very widespread problem. Users have been complaining about it for a very long time. Since this constant rebooting makes the phone useless, I returned it for a full refund since, in my opinion, it is defective. I was also able to return the Cricket sim since I never opened it. However, I was not allowed to return the top up card but was able to sell it on eBay. About a week after I returned the phone, someone on the Asus forums posted a work around for the rebooting issue – place the active sim in slot #2, and an extra, non-activated sim in slot 1. Supposedly that stops the reboots. If it weren’t for the reboot issue, I would have given this 4 stars. link to Asus forums: https://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=411

    Stay Away

I bought this for my son, tempted by low cost and large battery. It was a big mistake. The phone suffered reboots when a sim was in, so I thought it might be something wrong with the sim. I went to the cell carrier store, where they checked it and it was fine, and the phone resumed working. Next day, rebooted constantly. I went back to BestBuy and replaced with an identical unit, thought it might just be a faulty unit. The replacement worked mostly fine for a few days, with the occasional reboot. Then the constant reboots resumed, up to for 30 minutes at one time. This time I returned it and got a different phone - I wasted enough time (and a case) on this one.

For some reason, this phone keeps rebooting on its own and I've tried turning this and that off to no avail. Also, it doesn't seem to have LTE or include the charging cable to charge other phones despite having a large capacity battery. Lastly, it only takes micro SIM cards which means I need to spend more money to upgrade my old SIM card. Unfortunately, I have to return this problematic phone.

Ok as a spare travel phone

    Posted .

I normally use an iPhone so that colors my opinion. Google’s Android OS is less secure and I find it annoying. Ads and notifications keep coming from Google. I bought this phone to use while traveling abroad with a foreign SIM. Mostly I used it with WiFi. But it functioned well with WorldSim SIM card for voice and data and it’s camera is very nice. The added SIM for storing photos permitted me to save on phone cost by buying one with only 16GB ram. But I would not recommend that for anyone’s main mobile phone. Too little RAM.

    Doesn't work

Bought this phone for my wife. It never worked. It just constantly reboots. We brought it back to the store but couldn't return it because the glass broke. It was never hit or dropped. My wife put it on her pocket and when she took it out, the glass was falling apart. Customer service rep in store basically told us too bad. My family will be finding other retailers to support from now on.

      Dear Vandor,

I certainly understand your dissatisfaction with the retailer's service and return policy due to the glass broke. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and this is a random problem. Any screen, regardless of the brand name, is breakable if the unit was not handled with care. ASUS doesn’t warranty cracked screen. In regard to the phone reboots, have you tried any type of troubleshooting such as updating firmware/apps, wipe cache partition, or factory data reset? Should you need further assistance with an out of warranty service for the product or troubleshooting, please speak to an ASUS live support agent 24/7 at http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat or email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and I would be more than happy to assist you.

      Dear Valued Customer,

I am terribly sorry to hear about the issue that you are having with the phone constantly rebooting. The following are a few steps that you can try to have the issue resolved. Please go into the Settings and check for any available firmware updates. Another step that can be taken is to wipe the cache partition. This can be done by powering off the phone. Once it is off, press and hold the volume down key and then the power key. After the device vibrates, release power key (keep holding volume down key) to enter recovery mode. Select "wipe cache partition" using the volume down key (or volume up key), and then press power key. You can also back up the data stored on your phone and use the following FAQ to complete a factory reset: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1006347/. For further assistance you can email us at customerloyalty@asus.com and use the link to this review as a reference. Please have a wonderful day.

Also, please avoid any power-hungry software or application. Running these applications will cause auto-shutdown when battery life is running low. Great Phone with a Major Problem

    Posted .

The is a great little phone with an 18:9 display and quite a few nice features for the price point. I enjoyed using the phone for about 2 months with limited issues. It was sometimes sluggish (as expected with the processor/ram setup), and only occasionally rebooted a couple of times. The problems started on a recent trip. I was in LAX and the phone literally started a reboot loop that would not stop unless I removed the sim card. Now that I have returned home, I no longer have the rebooting issues. But upon another return to LAX, the reboots started again. It basically renders the phone useless in important moments. For this reason I will be replacing it.

Although the features on this phone are similar to a high price Samsung, this phone has been nothing but problems. It constantly restarts, won't connect to Bluetooth, and runs out of room as soon as you set it up.When you put in an SD card, it fails to allow it to be used as internal storage. It's slow, untrustworthy, and will restart while you are in the middle of a phone call. Avoid spending your money on this and look elsewhere.
