Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the gameplay of Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland, citing improvements over previous Atelier games, crisp graphics, and enjoyable, descriptive tasks. However, some customers felt the story was slow-paced in the beginning and lacked a good balance with the gameplay. The game's visuals were generally praised.

If you played the first three (Rorona, Totori, Meruru) you know what to expect, this plays like a more modern game with no time limit, better graphics, and a solid combat system with up to 5 characters in a fight at once (three front-line attackers and two support characters). You have a good variety of characters to choose from including three alchemists (so you can use a full alchemist party if desired) but skill-based characters can be equally useful given the right equipment. Crafting is also improved, there is a lot of useful features like search and filter to help narrow down ingredients. The world is pretty big and there are three seperate towns, lots of unlockable areas, and the combat in some areas being difficult if you don't take the time to level up. The story is decent, the best part is getting to see how most of the characters in the original games are doing now that they are (generally) successful and prominent adults.

I love the atelier series in general, but being on the Nintendo switch I had high hopes for this one. It definitely didn't disappoint! The graphics are really well done and the expressions the characters can make are more varied than the other games in the series. Even though it does not have English voice actors, the Japanese voice actors are amazing in expressing their lines! Not to mention the music is lovely to listen to! I LOVE this game so much! If I ever lost it I would buy it again!!!

Was very surprised by how good and high quality this game was. I wasn’t familiar with Atelier games before but saw that it is a good start to the series for newbies. The graphics are crisp with no frame skips. The music was surprisingly good. The story dragged a little at first but got better and more focused as time went on. Completed 100% normal difficulty, no dlc in about 70 hrs. Highly recommend

This is one of my favorite atelier series mainly because there isn't a time limit you have to complete. The next series I love is ryza. In other games like rorona you couldn't really grind and do other things because you have to beat the game at certain times. The graphics is quite good for the switch and I enjoyed the story.

This is one of my favorite JPRG series. The best part is its support for the Switch considering its portability. Also, I feel this one is improving on the previous entries. I would recommend it.

Atelier Lulua is one of the more new player friendly titles of the series yet, tweaking mechanics to be more intuitive than previous entries. Also, as a long-time fan of the series, it was great to return to Arland and learn more about the world and characters. Atelier Lulua is one of the better Atelier titles in recent years, and it’s worth picking up for any fan of the series.

Having played for a few hours I can say that I’m enjoying what I’ve experienced so far. As with any rpg, it will take some time to complete. This series as a whole has a certain charm that makes this series feel underrated yet deserves more attention.

Great improvement from the past Atelier Games , it's fun and very descriptive when it comes to the tasks. I loved that Lulua is actually the daughter of Rorona!

I really like the game the only down side is that they didn't dub the voices so you have to read everything

It can get a little grind heavy at times, and some parts of the game are so cryptic that I needed a guide for help. Other than that, I had a lot of fun. This was my first Atelier game. Even though it is 4th in the Arland series, I never felt lost in the narrative, which is surprisingly deep.

The games on the PS3, plentiful by the way, are all in English and the newer titles are becoming more and more lazy, not to mention the graphics and story are pretty much that same from said PS3 games, where is something new! These will never compare to the amazing games in this series on the PS2.

If you plan on getting this, play atelier rorona first, as this can be considered a sequel to some degree, as it takes place years after the ending.
