This is the 3rd of the series for Atelier Mysterious series. Atelier Sophie, and Atelier Firis is part 1 and 2, but these games can be played in any order or whichever you want without needing to play the other 2. These games of Atelier scratches off itchs of RPG battle, gathering, crafting, questing, hoarding gold, farming gold, leveling, improving stats and more.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle is a Japanese RPG, that, if you're unfamiliar with the series, is as good a time as any to break into it. The goal of the story is to have the best alchemist's shop in the country, and to do so you take part in a very satisfying gameplay loop. Your characters go exploring and collecting items in fields, fighting enemies in standard turn based combat, before returning back to the Atelier to craft new consumables, equipment, and items to help you get even further into the dungeon/fields your next outing. Every so often you'll be given a mission to craft a particular type of item in a particular time frame, to get more money to buy more things to increase your odds of survival in the dungeons or expedite your crafting.
It's a really nice JRPG, but the Switch version runs pretty terribly. The frame rate in handheld mode is abysmal, averaging 15fps, if that, a lot of the time while in town. The graphics look fine, but the frame rate suffers in portable mode. In TV mode the game runs more smoothly, however, but keep the above in mind if you'll be playing it handheld.

I never played an Atelier game before. I do like RPG and crafting so i gave this a shot and really liked it. You basically go out and fight baddies and collect all kinds of loot ingredients and bring them back to your house and try to craft all kinds of things such as items, equipment, gear, items you fight with, etc. You take on quests from the village center and make the items those quests want. I'm still in my first playthrough. I just wish there were more of these on the switch. From what i understand, this is the final episode of the Mysterious series. Would love to play the other 2 on the Nintendo Switch.

Super cute JRPG that has a basic storyline and colorful visuals. Gameplay is a bit shabby but the alchemy user interface is fun and different .

Maybe I'm just jaded when it comes to video games, but after popping the cartridge for this game into my Switch for a few minutes, I decided I was done.
When your game mechanics need to be explained not with a series of actions but with walls of text, and your (albeit starting) plot point explained in the same way instead of through actions or character interactions or even dialogues, I consider it a lazy writing. We're not in a book. We're not even in a visual novel, which is basically interactive book with pictures... I mean, we are not, right? Right?
What little world I have seen seemed like a PS3 world with all the charm of a flat medieval village, neither charmingly low-res or engagingly realistic. Am I asking a bit much for a handheld game? Perhaps.
But if it's a handheld game, it should have a quick save function so that I can quickly swap out a game for another in case someone comes by and decide to play 1-2 Switch like they do in the commercials. No can do--you need to get to a save point.
It's all a bit annoying. And the I really don't need to deal with this much annoyances this early in the game when there are hundreds of games that I can play instead.

The Atelier games has always been a niche series. Gust always cut corners on each game with little refinement inbetween. The series has had 3-game arcs with recurring characters and locations. This would be final game in the most recent arc. There is no english dub. The mechanics are largely the same. The switch port is crisp but suffers frame drops in cluttered scenes, nothing like the Firis Vita port though. The dlc is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced as seen in recent Gust games.

The graphics are lovely, but I'm not a fan of the alchemy system in this version of the game. So it's cute but I rapidly lost interest. The voice acting is Japanese only, which was different but okay.

Atelier series is a pretty underrated game series. I feel like most people who do not like these games are due to their alchemy mechanics. I am a pretty happy a game such as this has that so much crafting as it's core feature. If you are patient you can really get it down easily

By far the second best switch game out. Only to be topped by the obvious Zelda botw. This game is the action rpg the system has been needing. Addictive and super fun storyline. All around excellent game with hours of endless excitement that’ll have you wanting more.
