Like many other reviewers, I, too, had bought the previous version of this shelf unit. For the most part, they are built the same with a few improvements made; at least from what I remember when I built my original units. However, there are two major gripes that I do have with it, more on that later. This is a great unit and durable when adequate care is taken during the assembly process. I'd give it a 4.5 if it weren't for the 2 issues.
.
.
The PROs:
• The instructions are clear and easy to follow. There are pictures as well as written-out instructions, unlike IKEA.
• You really only need a screwdriver and hammer.
• The small parts (screws, pegs, nails, etc.) are separated and identified well in a blister-type pack.
• The backing of the unit is much improved from the previous version. To me, it seems just a bit thicker and more durable than the older version. I can't quite remember if they had these or not, but the current version has pilot holes for the small nails that you need to hammer into the frame. This saves a lot of guess work and you can center the backing a lot easier. It also has a tongue and groove type seam between the top and bottom halves that you nail down. This is an improvement from the older version that just joined flat next to each other and had to be taped together.
• The wall mount/anchor is standard. Comes with metal L-brackets mount, screws and plastic drywall anchors. However, unlike the original version, they've added pilots holes for the screws that go into the top of the unit. Again, only needing a screwdriver. I remember struggling when I had to anchor the first two units I bought.
• The design is simple and contemporary with a strong dark brown, almost black finish.
.
.
The CONs:
• The screws that secure the base to rest of the frame do not screw in flush with the wood. There will be little nubs sticking out at the bottom of your unit. This can cause instability issues and may mess up your floors when staging or moving the unit.
• My biggest disappointment with these are that the shelves are not flush with the frame. Unlike the previous version, these shelves are slightly receded. When you first install them, they seem pretty flimsy and easy to unbalance/tip over. Once items are placed on them, the weight keeps it pretty steady. However, this leaves you with less surface area to work with if you have unusually sized media or wanted to add little tchotchkes/trinkets where, again, balance may become an issue.
.
.
ASSEMBLY TIPS:
• There aren't many parts to this assembly. I'd recommend laying everything out in the order they need to be assembled. This will help you better visualize the bigger picture of how everything will fit together. Do not rush through the steps as you don't want to mess up the placement or over tighten anything.
• Personally, the holes that hold the wooden dowels/pegs seemed too big and the pegs moved around too much for my liking. I added just a dab of wood glue in each hole to help with the overall sturdiness. Add when you first put them into the I-piece and J-piece. Then again on the opposite sides when joining with the vertical frames (A-H-pieces / jambs?),
• Lastly, the much talked about and "dreaded" step of adding the backing. The base of the unit has a lip the protrudes out from the rest of the frame. The instructions tell you to place the unit face down and just hammer the back down. The unevenness causes too much strain on the screws securing the base to the rest of the unit and may crack.
Here is the very simple workaround I used for this:
1. Very carefully flip the unit face down.
2. Place 9 of the mini shelves under each corner at the top of the unit and another 9 shelves in the center along one of the sides of the unit (under the I/J-piece - I forget which is the center plank) where the top and bottom halves are held together. Each stack should roughly equate to the height of the lip at the base and will now give you a balanced and steady work area to nail down the backing. To protect the top surfaces of the shelves, make sure that the bottoms (the side with the divots drilled out for the pegs) are facing out in each of these stacks.
3. Unfold and center the backing pieces as desired, then start hammering down all those little nails. Again, the pilot holes here are such time-savers. I recommend first working on the side that has the extra 9 shelves in the center of the unit. When done, you can slide those out and place them under the opposite side and finish out the hammering.
• As for those pesky protruding screws under the base, I simply used 2 pieces of painter's (masking) tape to cover each one up. This should help it glide a bit better when staging/moving the unit without gouging into your floors. You can add anything you think could help in this area so long as it doesn't add too much thickness.
• When all done, you are now able to gently lift the unit upright and place it where desired.

I had purchased this Oskar same media cabinet maybe 7 yrs. ago from Best Buy but decided to buy a 2nd one as I have a massive CD collection. While the 2 cabinets mesh together well, I am slightly disappointed because they don’t match exactly. Oskar seems to have cut back on the quality of the product over the yrs., especially with the shelves being several inches shorter nowadays (see the skimpier shelves on the left in photo). Still it is a handsome display of my collection.

I'd had and older model for at least 15 years and due to water damage, it had to be retired. I was happy to see this brand was still around. The overall format is the same with a few seemingly minor differences. The biggest two being the actual shelves are thinner and the overall unit is bigger.
I put together the shelf last night only to discover that one of the side panels is warped. What happened when I installed the side panel? It split it two different places.
So, just be aware of that when you get yours.

As others mentioned, this item is not of high quality and the fasteners tore out during assembly and that's saying a lot since the assembly was an easy process. If you're looking for cheap, low quality, bottom of the barrel, Ikea level shelving, this is it. The unit is not sturdy and the shelf pins fall out very easy, causing the shelf to actually fall down. Please don't waste your time and money on this.

For the amount of storage you get for the price, you can't go wrong!
It was easy to assemble, easy to mount to the wall, and looks great!
And as far as the company, I had an issue that I was missing 1 piece - a little shelf holder. I contacted Atlantic and had the parts I needed within a day or two AT MOST. That kind of service is hard to find. I will DEFINITELY be purchasing more products from this company in the future!

Does What It Needs To

Nice looking product, however the build of the product (fit, quality of screws, pegs, etc.) is slightly flimsy. Required a little building finesse in-order to make everything fit the way it should, definitely not a "follow the instructions & get perfect results" product. But, other than that, definitely a nice storage cabinet for someone who owns many films (many meaning 400+). The wall mounts are solid & definitely a bonus (why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3), definitely necessary to lock the cabinet securely to the wall. Has a nice, dark espresso finish. Shelves are solid, as are the metal pegs used to hold them in place. All in all, a decent storage cabinet for someone with a serious collection looking to not break the bank. Does what it needs to, bottom line.

Product came packaged very well, no damage. Construction was very straight-forward, I had no issues at all. The shelf looks great and is of a good quality material. Comes with plenty of shelves and pins for limitless combinations.
Only one issue I had with it and that is due to it's size. Not that it is too big but if you want to do DVD only as I did, the shelf placements (pre-drilled holes) won't let you maximize for all DVD use. One shelf set will end up either way too much space for the DVD's or the next size is so small, you can't even place CD's bookshelf style on it. I had to use that row for DVD's in jewel cases laid flat as there is not enough room to stand them. Would have been nice to have engineered this so that you could use the total space for bookshelfed DVDs.

Great DVD Book Case

We were specifically looking for a bookcase type DVD storage unit. I did a google search and of course being an Elite Service Member at Best Buy always like to go there when I can. In this instance, Best Buy had the best deal and even though i only saw this online it was even better in person. It was relatively easy to set up except for one point when i had to rest the thing on it's front - the unit has a "lip" on the bottom and resting it on the front cause the unit to separate a little but in the end i hope it's not a long term problem. The unit is big, holds an incredible amount of DVDs and is almost perfectly deep for DVD and not too deep like a standard bookcase. My only 2 issues with the unit are one mentioned above during the build and that in general the unit is not super robust, but for the price it's fine and as i said, hopefully will hold up for years - we plan on keeping it in the same place and not moving it around.

I did buy these at full retail because I needed the storage ASAP. These are pressboard, and not solid wood. However, these take up just the right amount of space to store all my discs without being overbearing in the designated space. I bought 3 and all three came with a few extras screws anbd nails in case some get lost, and the imperfections were minimal for DIY furniture. Not a bad choice, but try to get them on sale.

I've had and had a few shelving units from Atlantic Oskar shelves. This set is not as good as previous shelves. The general quality was lower compared to the others I've bought. And the shelves you in insert had less depth so it didn't seem as stable.

I had bought one about 15 years ago and i absolutely love it. Now that my collection has grown it was time for a new one. This one is great too! I’m not sure why people are having trouble with the locks breaking but i didn’t have a problem at all. It’s sturdy, adjustable and thr perfect height for all my media. I would recommend.

I had a traditional 5 shelf bookcase that I used for my dvds and blurays but soon found that I had too many. The spacing didn't allow me to add another shelf and I had to stack movies on it and it looked terrible. I finally found this media case and decided to buy it. I am so glad I did! It is only slightly wider than my previous bookcase and the shelves are adjustable, I have extra Im not using. My stacks of movies are no more, they all fit on this case perfectly and I even have space. The case itself is made of cheap boards not wood but it does what its designed to do. Only thing is the mahogany color seems to look black in color rather than darker brown. Took an hour or so to assemble it, didn't need to mount it to the wall as the base is pretty stable.

Previously purchased 3 of these media shelves a few years ago (under the original manufacture's name). The latest version is still a solid product, but there are noticeable changes in the build quality of the product. The shelves are thinner and not as deep as they used to be (they are not as deep as the shelf 'walls' so your media sits in a bit).
I preferred the older, thicker full sides product, but this is still by far the best of the larger shelving units offered by BB -- and even after several years they match my original purchases.
Would be a 4 1/2 star review if that was an option, but I understand trying to save money from a manufacturer and will still give 5 stars.
